Posture the ultimate life hack >>> guerrillazen.com/posture-the-ultimate-life-hack Here are a couple things to keep in mind when at a standing desk: 1) Make sure to not be standing in an overextended position (lower back arched inwards). If you notice your body doing this a lot then try squeezing the butt and core really hard and keeping them turned on. 2) Make sure the desk is at an appropriate height and you are not looking down at your computer. 3) Stand on an anti fatigue or acupressure mat. This will encourage you to move your body a little throughout the work day and will prevent the tissues from going thru disadvantageous tissue adaptation. :)

Great advice! Stillness is the real culprit, not Sitting. Having said that, I find that having a standing desk makes it much easier to move about freely.

I believe switching to a standing desk has led to me developing lumbar scoliosis and contribututed to lumbar retrolisthesis, by lack of awareness of the risks. Wish I would have seen this video a year ago :-(

I have a pelvic tilt problem and herniated 3 discs a few years back. It was always managable until i got a coccyx problem. Im looking at getting a motorised adjustable desk, i feel i NEED it just to be able to work properly again. I think being a bigger guy, i have to make sure theres a cut out in ths desk top for my gut. Most desks seem to have them but not all. It seems hard to get the proper posturing without the cut out.

But standing, makes moving much easier than sitting, if you set your environment in a way you need to move to pick up things, then standing is a good thing, instead of rolling your chair around to reach things xD

This is a really good video. I have been standing at my computer job for about 2,5 years now. I have had a few sitting pains go away, like headaches and sciatica. However, it's exactly like you said, there is a whole new set of problems that can come if you stand naively. I had huge posture issues and quickly developed pain in the upper back. Also had an inflammation in my heels due to standing barefoot on a very hard surface, as well as some ulnar nerve pain and numbness due to incorrect arm and elbow placement. Nowadays I walk about 10 steps every 5-10 minutes while I need to think about work, I alternate between standing and sitting during the day, I stretch, I managed to fix my pelvic tilt with exercises and the correct form of standing you showed. It's definitely not a miracle cure! You need to educate yourself, and if you're with posture problems like me, you have to put in some effort. But I think it's definitely worth it. I would never go back to just sitting now. It feels so natural and fresh to stand and move around.

Hi, I had that problem. More specifically pain in the heels. I managed to fix it with two things: an even mat to stand on, and alternating between standing and sitting. The mat I got was a really cheap mat too. And I don't wear shoes, I just stood in my socks.
