@@al87221 I think it is what JJMB27 put, they don't know opening theory. I assume for lots of people to get into the Hillbilly attack, they play some sort of bishop's opening against E4-E5 and just do the same in the Caro. Additionally, white is still in a fully playable position and most of us aren't masters who will punish this type of Hillbilly properly (at least I know I'm not).

I’m just barely getting past that point now (closer to 900). The thing is you and everyone at your level start to see tactics, know basic openings, blunder less, etc. but I and everyone else will still make horrible, game-losing blunders with regularity. It’s a weird elo I think

Wait til 1300 rapid. A good 15-20 percent of games are played at 2000 level (game review estimate). No blunders, no mistakes. Maybe 2/3 minor inaccuracies.

By the way, you know the "ridiculous engine defense" against ...c5 at 27:09? Revolves around allowing the rook to be taken by playing Nd2 and using the fact that cxb4 blocks the Queen. This allows Nc4 and the potential for the hilarious Nd6+ and e4 combo, which would give White two advanced centralized knight outposts in exchange for two pawns of material.
