The technology for Instant Food/MRE of Indian Dishes was developed by DRDO for the soldiers deployed in far flung isolated post, where ration itself takes 5-7 days to reach and cooking food is not always an option. At temperature below -30°C, everything freezes. It’s only in Indian Armed Forces where MREs are available in so many varieties. Rest of the world armies eat gel, tinned meat, paste, jelly etc etc as MRE. Earlier in Instant food by MTR used to have “Technology developed by DRDO” written on the packets.

Yes. They are not that great as compared to the US or Russian MREs.

For our soldiers, they have choices from paranthas, zeera rice, Biryani, Dal Makhani, Chicken curry, Mutton Rogan Josh, Halwa etc etc. Which our guys like more than what the westerns eat. The US MRE as of 2021 has option of only one main and one side dish. Rest are stove, tea coffee snacks etc. You can check their official website. But, they do have a lot of variety in the menu to choose from, for that one main.

Chole Bhature and other food items are probably targeted at Indians living abroad who may get the chick peas but not the right spice blend to make these at home. Something is better than nothing and mostly waiting until you travel back to India for that nostalgic taste. We also get various stuffed paranthas frozen like Paneer, Mooli, mixed veg etc, some South Indian dishes from Sri Lanka and India including chutneys, Sambhar, Medu Vada, Dhokla, chapatis, phulkas, Theplas, Daal tadka... There is a whole range in western countries. But after a while you can taste the preservatives in them so it is not really a daily or long term solution. Your vlog was fantastic 😁
