Bryan actually recently revealed that the segment was planned by the two of them. The idea was that Miz can say whatever he wants to get under Bryan's skin and Bryan would then punch him. He'd either get fired or the company would have no choice but to clear him so that match can happen but then in the moment he felt like it had more of an impact if he just walked away.

I can tell you, up until recently with the newer Bloodline stuff, I didn’t care at all about promos, I just wanted the matches. That’s why I switched to mainly Independent and Japanese wrestling because I just wanted wrestling. I’d only check out a promo if it was trending. I can tell you everyone whose held the WWE/WWF/WWWF championship in history but I can’t tell you anything from a promo on RAW from a year ago. I barely watch weekly WWE because I want wrestling and the wrestling on those shows doesn’t matter really.
