@@lyla5161 how come? It's just weird I guess because it depends on what the video defines as "white". Lightly coloured skin makes sense. It's mainly that a lot of people call a lot of "white" skinned colours Caucasian, when especially in Europe there are a bunch of cultures and nationalities with light skin that aren't Caucasian, and not classified as "white" In Europe. That's really it. In places like American they kind of put them all under the boat as White while in Europe the culture is different.

@@ΝικοςΚαμαριωτης it depends on what you define as white. Of course a lot of Europeans have light coloured skin, but if you're talking about white being Caucasian (with my experience that seems to be the general notion anyway and what the video seems to mean since the African American girl thought it was weird for a Sicilian guy to call himself white. Otherwise besides Caucasian there are Slavics, Hispanics, Turks, Germanics.etc. when I googled the definition of Caucasian I found that the North-American version was "white person from Europe", but then the obvious question is what does white exactly mean. In the 18th century Johann Blumenthal who was a light skin Germanic classified "Caucasians" to be the perfect image of God, or whatever was believed back then. Because if the facial proportions and skull shape (and skin tone). So if Caucasians by his definition than it's about the shape of your face. So people who have different facial features that at a lot of other nationalities do in Europe aren't Caucasian. It's a very confusing definition and I think type casting all like skin people with the same culture is dumb, the same as type casting any person of different skin tones to one nationality or culture is also dumb. So yeh

@@l0stnam312 Ok,i see what you missunderstood in my comment.I know how white is used in America,i just wanted to know which Europeans you claimed to not be white.Here in Europe every native is European,that's the term we use,but white can be used for everyone also,including Slavs.Infact,not being white is only used as an attack in Europe,for example,Slavic Macedonians saying that us Greeks are not whites/Europeans,but gypsies or Arabs or Africans or something like that, in order to justify territorial claims.If you are from Europe you are thought to be some kind of white one way or the other,but there are many types,not just Nordic white,just like there are many shades of brown.As for the Sardinian part,it's the first time i hear people call them PoC.Infact,most people from the video were at least half white,and some even paler than me,but no they are only PoC because "whitey bad" or something like that.I can understand you not getting it though,since you don't live in Europe,but it is still strange for people to not see you as white,since Slavic phenotypes have those blonde hair and blue eyes,more often than not.Yet again,i'm guessing you are from the Balkans,and if you are from North Macedonia i hope i didn't offend you.

Middle easterners existed on the earth long before Europeans did and that includes Mediterranean Europeans. I go to a diverse college heavily populated with Italians, Greeks, Spaniards who all look white, and yet we have Arabs/Assyrians too and the Arabs & Assyrians are very easily distinguishable and have their own features. From big and deeply defined dark eyes, long eyelashes, thick eyebrows, prominent noses/jawlines, olive-brown skin glow, facial hair, and the hairy legs lol...oh and another thing middle eastern men don’t have pink private parts. They’re literally brown and it’s the darkest part of their body, they can pass for light skinned black guys down there. And another proven fact the only reason Sicilians/southern Italians are darker than the rest of Italians is because they have middle eastern admixture since Sicily was conquered by different empires including Arabs at one point. That’s where they got the dark haired and dark eyed genes from. Spanish people also don’t look like Arabs who are typically discriminated against in Spain. Most Spaniards are pale with silky-textured hair and colored eyes. You must’ve been thinking about Hispanic people with Indigenous admixture. Some of them can pass for middle eastern folks but for the most part everyone in the world looks like what they are and it’s not hard to tell.

We are wonderfully blended an we more like to set away from the pacifics that could hold us back in our society. We are trying to simplify Ethnicity division so that homefully 1 day there will only be 1 box .... Are you a American. Our country is largest of immigrants. When people arrived way back when in new york. Their was soooo many it would be ridiculous to try an get through everyones personal background. We simplified it to just White so that we could move on with more important thing in our society. People can be so wrapped up in what they are . you can be proud but in the end. Nobody really cares cause your ethnicity doesnt matter in building a united nation. We are united an that means we are all together. One day white black other wont exist . I think part of the issue with "who is white?" has to do with American history and that old "one drop" rule that existed during and after slavery where in some places if you had any mixed heritage you were "colored". Hence if people could "pass" they had more rights, but if they couldn't they ended up screwed over for everything from education to where they could sit on the bus in some places. Shameful era of American history. My own grandmother was apparently Cherokee though she died before I was born. Some people guess that I have mixed heritage, others seem shocked by it. @LonelyGuitarKid6 жыл бұрын
That's because "White Americans" are no longer a majority British in ethnicity but rather we are a combination of many European ethnicities which have interbred. Similar to how many people living in Latin American countries are neither fully Native nor fully Spanish, White Americans are considered as such because we all have broadly European genes. The fact we identify specifically as "White" is probably due to our past immigration policies which allowed citizenship only to those Europeans also considered "White." These are the races 1. White 2. Native (American/Alaskan) 3. Asian 4. Pacific Islander 5. Latino/a 6. Black That’s it. Jewish is not a race. Russian is not a race. You do not “identify” as a race. Your comeback of they are of white race due to their white skin tone ok anyone with brown skin tone is of brown race then. 4. Most importantly, white race supremacist don't even used to consider Asiana of white skin as of white race, so calling one as white race supremacist and then denying basic fundamental is ironical. 5. Nazis said that even if Indian complete basic requirement of white race that is to have European ancestory still they are mixed and not of white race and one saying that basic condition of having EUROPEAN ancestory is not even Required and then claiming to be nazi is more ironical
@SILENCEINTHESOULS2 жыл бұрын
@Tomas Bustamante you missed the point They are saying their race isn't white And not that their skin tone isn't It is quite ironic that eurpean can't understand that much. White race means white skin and European ancestory. And not just white skin and not European ancestory. If you say only with white skin, one is of white race so you are following Stupid and Hypocritical definition of skin tone decides race, as according to your definition anyone with brown skin tone should be of brown race but you said no to that and act as Hypocrites. Most importantly, Nazis literally used to say that, Asians with white skin, and even if they complete basic requirement to be of white race i.e. have europen ancestory still asians are not of white race and here Nazis are saying oh the basic condition don't matter at all. Yeah, talking about race can get so tiring. Though we do need to look at why it's such a big deal. White America has always been preoccupied, they created laws to segregate on it, to restrict immigration based on it, to send people to internment camps based on it. It's hard to suddenly change when your whole history has been based on this principle that white people should be in charge (manifest destiny).
@nightshadow736 жыл бұрын
I think it comes down to geneology, actually. We all come from so many countries. My immediate ancestors come from 7 different countries. Mostly European, while one is native american. But as Americans, because we're such a melting pot, we become intrigued what genetic traits come through. Like the french and german show up big time in my body type, but my cheekbones and forehead will get me native american or on occasion greek.

He's right when he said he would feel uncomfortable to identify as POC. And what does POC even mean? All the people in the Mediterranean basin are so ethnically mixed after millenia of exchange that this concept doesn't make sense at all...
@nepatrul60752 жыл бұрын
@@Valeria-graef I fully agree. Our conversations about race and ethnicity are completely busted and they’ve manifested in an unhealthy culture built around wishy washy appraisals of people’s identity. Identity being uniquely founded upon race or ethnicity doesn’t help. Some serious conversations about it need to be had. Your point about the term “POC” is hitting the nail on the head. People don’t even realize there’s a difference between “Hispanic” and “Latino.” You mentioned how Italy has been mixing for eons, well most don’t even understand the fact that the word “Latino” is such a new concept and the original Latinos _were_ people in Italy and the broader Mediterranean.
