It's mainly that a lot of people call a lot of "white" skinned colours Caucasian, when especially in Europe there are a bunch of cultures and nationalities with light skin that aren't Caucasian, and not classified as "white" In Europe. That's really it. In places like American they kind of put them all under the boat as White while in Europe the culture is different.

Of course a lot of Europeans have light coloured skin, but if you're talking about white being Caucasian (with my experience that seems to be the general notion anyway and what the video seems to mean since the African American girl thought it was weird for a Sicilian guy to call himself white. Otherwise besides Caucasian there are Slavics, Hispanics, Turks, Germanics.etc. when I googled the definition of Caucasian I found that the North-American version was "white person from Europe", but then the obvious question is what does white exactly mean. In the 18th century Johann Blumenthal who was a light skin Germanic classified "Caucasians" to be the perfect image of God, or whatever was believed back then. Because if the facial proportions and skull shape (and skin tone). So if Caucasians by his definition than it's about the shape of your face. So people who have different facial features that at a lot of other nationalities do in Europe aren't Caucasian. It's a very confusing definition and I think type casting all like skin people with the same culture is dumb, the same as type casting any person of different skin tones to one nationality or culture is also dumb. Yes there are differences between these and most people are mixing them up. However it is irrelevant for our daily life... In my opinion it is of no use to know what race you are. And another proven fact the only reason Sicilians/southern Italians are darker than the rest of Italians is because they have middle eastern admixture since Sicily was conquered by different empires including Arabs at one point. That’s where they got the dark haired and dark eyed genes from. Spanish people also don’t look like Arabs who are typically discriminated against in Spain. Most Spaniards are pale with silky-textured hair and colored eyes. You must’ve been thinking about Hispanic people with Indigenous admixture. Some of them can pass for middle eastern folks but for the most part everyone in the world looks like what they are and it’s not hard to tell.

I grew up with one family of of Black folks. And that's how they called themselves. Also I was friends with their daughter and son through school. I think part of the issue with "who is white?" has to do with American history and that old "one drop" rule that existed during and after slavery where in some places if you had any mixed heritage you were "colored". Hence if people could "pass" they had more rights, but if they couldn't they ended up screwed over for everything from education to where they could sit on the bus in some places. Shameful era of American history. My own grandmother was apparently Cherokee though she died before I was born. Some people guess that I have mixed heritage, others seem shocked by it. In the end it's all based on superficial generalities anyway. As we see here, "white" is largely a social construct.

That's because "White Americans" are no longer a majority British in ethnicity but rather we are a combination of many European ethnicities which have interbred. Similar to how many people living in Latin American countries are neither fully Native nor fully Spanish, White Americans are considered as such because we all have broadly European genes. The fact we identify specifically as "White" is probably due to our past immigration policies which allowed citizenship only to those Europeans also considered "White." Yeah, talking about race can get so tiring. Though we do need to look at why it's such a big deal. White America has always been preoccupied, they created laws to segregate on it, to restrict immigration based on it, to send people to internment camps based on it. It's hard to suddenly change when your whole history has been based on this principle that white people should be in charge (manifest destiny).

I think it comes down to geneology, actually. We all come from so many countries. My immediate ancestors come from 7 different countries. Mostly European, while one is native american. But as Americans, because we're such a melting pot, we become intrigued what genetic traits come through. Like the french and german show up big time in my body type, but my cheekbones and forehead will get me native american or on occasion greek.
