Right from the beginning I thought, Ben will be pretty accurate, and he was. And it also shows that the 6505MH is not a bad sounding amp at all.
@ChrisEck13 Жыл бұрын
I was gonna say the same thing. And you could tell he was the only one that really seemed they were really seeing what the amp could do, like turning down the volume, playing different things, lead parts.the higher strings, etc. Everyone else just played a few power chords or lower string riffs, not really looking for the how the amp responded in different situations
@BenEller Жыл бұрын
Haha thank you!

I honestly thought that 6505 MH sounded fantastic
@gitplayer55 Жыл бұрын
@@8KilgoreTrout4 It is, I have one. Really good sounding and most people only complain about the lack of low end. But there is a resonance knob with which you can add more low end than you realistically need. And to be honest, in a mix you cut off any frequencies below like 60 to 80 Hz and most people use overdrive pedals to clean up the low end anyway. With a 4x12 or 2x12, this amp ist toally gig worthy as well. I can only recommend it!

I was expecting to see most of the guys on here using the guitar volume knob from off to infinite along with increasingly heavier picking to explore the headroom of the amplifiers in order to judge the wattage and cost. Ben was doing that I think along with judging the noise floor. Great video, man.
@Mr_Woodchuck Жыл бұрын
Ben is definitely right on with checking how the amps clean up on lower volume. That is the big difference for me playing out of my Soldano versus something like the PRS MT15.
@legacyShredder1 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that higher wattage with multiple gain stages really cleans up with the headroom, but it can cost a lot of money to get it. Lower watt amps can sound great, but don't expect the headroom to clean up the same as the expensive counterpart.. Although you can get pretty close on the money using various 3rd party pedals and products along with the amp.

7-8 years ago when I first really started watching guitar gear channels, I would see 2 people pick apart the "gain structure" of 2 amps that sounded EXACTLY ALIKE to me and wonder how TF anyone could tell a difference, especially with YT's audio compression. Now, I'm one of those people that skips around in the video, makes my own decisions, and occasionally wows myself with the knowledge and experience I've accrued by playing with my own gear over the years. My marriage is falling apart, my dog is dying, and my kid is starting to resent me, but dammit I know the difference between a Boss Katana and a Peavey 6505.

Still maintain that the Iconic is an absolute steal for the features you get and the tone it produces. I learned the hard way, thinking more expensive amps would be that much better. Difference between an expensive tube amp and a cheap tube amp is how many months or years before a part is going to go bad on it, or it stops working from being jostled around. This is why hand wired is my favorite, those circuits are tough and incredibly easy to work on.

different amps at the same settings on the knobs can sound different. Glen is more in the park of while the amp changes the sound somewhat, they all kinda sound (Like fluff said) a take on a 5150. Glen more advocates that if you want the biggest change in your sound the speaker would help the most, and that investing in Magical wood is a stupid idea.
