Dies Irae, where your power level is determined by your Chuuni-ness.

Every power level can easily be raised by revealing your tragic childhood and screaming "BUT NOT ANYMORE" in your head! In all seriousness, I suppose a lot of older Shounen works also have some sort of educational background, so having these established power levels based on how much effort people put into getting stronger almost comes naturally - motivates people more to do the work instead of just really (really!) wanting the results. I thought I was into those kind of VNs as well because I tend to enjoy edgy Urobuchi works, but gave up on Dies Irae after 10 hours or so. The edgy monologue-fights don't really work for me as much when it's not the result of a lot of worldbuilding. So apparently it's not for me :o.

I tried Dies Irae and gave up halfway through too... Those training montages are the best, lol. Even though the emphasis is always on the dramatic fight scenes where people "overcome their limits!", I always love seeing the growth beforehand, where we see the MC build themselves up and work towards their victories. Especially when they use that training in the battle! So good
