Below Deck's Chef Rachel has a massive challenge on her hands this charter. The crew are joined by a guest who had to have her jaw wired shut due to a recent accident.
Rachel meets with the guest to discuss what she can be fed during her stay on the yacht. Rachel was imagining she could make nice soups and broths but the guest actually states she wants everything that all the other guests are eating, but...blended.
Throughout their stay, Rachel struggles to keep up with the guest's requirements. Will they all still get the big tip they want?

This is absolutely ridiculous. I do feel bad that she has her jaw wired shut, but I agree with everyone who says that she should have stayed home. It’s unreasonable to come on vacation and be pissed at the chef because she didn’t strain her food enough. Rachel seems like an amazing chef, and I’m sure that was very difficult getting the right texture for those purees on top of making everyone else’s meal too

It’s an awkward position for everyone else, like how are you supposed to eat in front of her??? If I were in that position, I would’ve gotten a juicer, made her something, served her while you cook for everyone else, so she has something to start with. But seriously,…. If you’re rich enough to afford a yacht charter,…. Schedule it when you can actually eat the food you’re paying for.

Same. I had major surgery for crohns and I had to have a liquid diet for like 2 months or so and I would have NEVER done this. I feel bad for her and can't imagine how horrible that would be but like, she's guilt tripping everyone......

I wonder how early a crew gets this notice because that is a very difficult situation for a chef with limited time and support. On top of that, she wanted all the same foods but super blended. She can’t expect that to be easily done or strained 100% perfect every time. The chef is already super busy with all of the other food.

I've had my jaw wired....there is no way that you can expect to be able to eat what others are having by "just liquefying" it. It has to be pureed to the nth degree and then put through a fine sieve. I couldn't use a straw but had to use a plastic syringe to feed myself. Lived on meal replacement shakes & milkshakes for 2 months.You can't drink because you are on pain meds......why would you go and make yourself and everyone else miserable.

I certainly understand her wanting to be served at the same time as everyonen, but her expectation thst she'd be eating the same as everyone else, just blended was a bit unrealistic. Theres a reason why youre fed protien shakes and other similarly liquid foods when your jaw is wired. It gives you the needed caloric intake without trying to liquify foods that arent meant to be liquid.

Jesus christ, this is just unbridled entitlement. I'm sorry you're injured lady. But is it fair to put everyone at an inconvenience because of your injury ? Everyone has to tread on tiptoes around you and can't fully enjoy their meals because they have to sit there and see you sulking about how your blended steaks are late. Either request for soups or just stay at home to fully recover. I had to be on a liquid diet before, it's difficult. But what I didn't do was bring everyone's morale down by sulking during dinner.

The primaries made a point of her having *the same food as everyone else*. Like take the plate, put everything in a blender, and strain it. Not all foods can be liquified in a blender. That request wasn’t even made until they were already on board. And there was no way for Rachel to know just how fine things needed to be strained. It wasn’t thought through.

If I was the chef I would have assumed you wanted actual liquid dinners as i soups, runnier mashed potatoes and different youghurts and so on. Sucks about the accident but to not be patient and understanding that your friends and husband are allowed to enjoy themselves also without her winging about everything. Of course your hungry your on a liquid diet sweetheart, maybe Oder a protein shake or something before dinner BEcasue of course your going to need more to actually feel full. Takes some initiative and have some common sense you have everything there at your disposal, use it. But be understanding the chief is also organising other meals also. She's just no one can be happy unless I'm happy, selfish woman.

People need to realize that this trip was probably planned long before her accident and you can just cancel or back out of a trip and expect to get your money back. The charters cost almost $200,000 dollars if not more. Leave all that as side and look at the fact that she’s the primary charter guest so if a diet is needed for her meals, she needs to be served first so I understand the frustration on their end.

We realize the trip probably was booked before her injury and non- refundable but it was selfish to have the world to revolve around her to the extent it placed so much burden on the chef to prepare all of her meals and the whole boat( guests and crew) meals by herself. She should’ve stayed home and let the others to go, there would be another time she could go. I know her frustration but…

@@daddams100 i’m not disagreeing with that by any means because it probably was a very tall burden to handle. However, we don’t know if they paid for the entire trip or not so if that were me, and I was paying whatever amount the trip was, I would want to go. Especially if it was nonrefundable. We are also only seeing bits and pieces in a clip so we don’t exactly know for sure, if her friends were upset over how she was acting or if they were understanding because a true friend would be understanding. But we don’t know how they felt so at this point we are just assuming that they thought she was a burden. The chef and the crew are also paid and know how these high-end clients are so if this isn’t something that they are willing to accommodate to or be understanding of, then this isn’t the right career or job for them. Again, these are just my thoughts, and I don’t disagree with anything that you were saying, but it’s hard to fully understand a situation when we are not involved and you’re only thing, bits and pieces of a clip from the show.

They can back out if they truly wanted to, and they can also bring their own food/chefs/supplies/etc to assist instead of demanding perfection and getting highly upset when hiccups occur. Rachel clearly planned out something for the guest but had to chuck it out the window because she demanded to eat EXACTLY what the others were, just in blended form. That is ridiculous.

I'm sure all the other guests felt like cr2p as well because "the primary" keeps complaining about how hungry she is. Why didn't she bring a liquid diet/protein shake/meal replacement that she could easily eat? I understand her predicament but she's reacting like an entitled baby that can't do anything for herself. There are chefs whose only task is to prepare liquidated food for people. You can't just take a steak and potatoes and throw it in a blender. This one is on the guest 100 percent, it wasn't fair for the chef/servers.

Maybe the unpopular opinion, I think she was being pretty understandable to be honest - she's the co-primary, who's paying the money for the experience, who essentially is the one who hired the chef, by booking the experience. The chef is a professional chef working on a luxury level, this kind of request really isn't that difficult to accommodate or be thoughtful of. Yes, it might take some creativity, but isn't that part of the chef's job? Adapting to a person who's had a medical issue that impacts the way she can physically eat doesnt strike me as a difficult request to make, theres nothing she can do to change her circumstances. The fact she was just sitting there watching people eat while she's hungry and being left out, I can understand her reaction. She was also trying to be upfront about what she needed in order to feel more comfortable and wasn't really being difficult about it, just frustrated. Just my opinion.

the part where i disagree is this request wasnt made clear as soon as she found out and knew she wanted to eat the same things as the guests, the chef had something planned out but the primary insisted on having the SAME thing as the guests, which can be much harder to liquify and also means you prepare everyones plates, then liquify hers hence the time difference, not as much potential to pre prep. the other thing is not clarifying the importance of how strained it needed to be, i didnt know until reading these comments that people need to like triple strain for wired jaws bc even the tiniest molecule of food can be dangerous. she didnt think to bring another chef or warn ahead of time how important this was? she gave her next to no time to prepare, without giving the resources to do it well, and then complained. i somewhat agree w your opinion, but think its more complicated than that and she did partially put herself in that position
