"If she can't control her own children, how can she be a teacher?" okay wtf. Here you go ladies and gentlemen, if you've ever heard something similar from your partner break up right now. This is a major red flag. Ridiculing your partner (both in public and in private) is basically verbal abuse. I remember hearing a guy in a restaurant tell his girlfriend "you don't even know how to dress up, how do you call yourself a woman" in front of all his friends and their partners. The girl kept on a smile and acted as if nothing happened. That's when the problem starts. When you make yourself feel like these rude comments are valid since he/she is your partner.

“If she can’t control her own children, how can she be a teacher” is a completely different question that has nothing to do with societal standards and taking part in defamation of another character. Being a teacher requires you to be accountable of your students and parents to their children alike. The statement is simply concluding if you cannot control children that are closest to you then you simply must be unable to control children that you do not share a close bond with. “You don’t even know how to dress up, how do you call yourself a woman” is a completely unnecessary question that places the woman in a societal standard of fitting in with other girls when she can dress however she wants to dress as. A woman is a grown female-there is no other characterization that can be added to change that grown female for who she is. If someone does not love you for how you dress, that is their fault and you are not to be blamed for their verbal abuse. But if someone is making a comparison to your tendencies at home with your career, it is a healthy conversation that they are addressing to you so you don’t lose your reputation or your job as a bad teacher.

The second concern really got me...that poor little girl. I have seen many concerns in this show, but seeing a 5/6 year-old child behaving that way, rejecting her mother and acting cute for her dad because she is SCARED of him, scared he would treat her like her mother..well, that killed me. He's violent and abusive, how can you push your wife's stomach? And she was also pregnant? That's a red flag... I feel so sorry for her. I don't believe she is spoiled, she is just living in fear...she is basically siding her father to 'survive' in that house. It's heartbreaking. I really hope hearing the truth from their daughter will change both of them.

I lived in South Korea and I can confirm that many young people are changing their perception of marriage, even though it will still take the korean society a long time before they will be able to change many of the things that we consider negative. I really hope the husband will try his best to change...for the sake of her daughter/wife as well as for himself. In the show he seemed genuinely shocked to hear the truth from her little one, so I hope he will change. That first case is such a classic example of OCD. You shouldn't be shaming your daughter on a program like this. Go to a psychologist/psychiatrist, for god's sake. I have had/I have OCD tendencies, but it was never this bad. Still, I was used to be so anxious all the time before. If the actions you use for relieving your anxiety take more than an hour in a day/restricts your life a lot, it's easily diagnosed as OCD and in my opinion there's no question about it with her.
@kaisae61906 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's clearly OCD. I recognize the exact symptoms in myself too, and the severity. I'm not a psychology expert or anything but I have a feeling that if she's not treated soon + if she feels that they're laughing at her anxiety and shaming her, it will get a lot worse and more difficult to manage. I really hope the mom will be sensible and take her to see a psychiatrist.

I immediately think of that too. It is actually OCD (it might be worse if not treated early and it might be still in developing stage) from the way they explain what she says or think even before mother came out. I feel for the second concern. I grew up in a negative household watching my parents constantly fight. I was the oldest and always felt responsible for everything including my 4 younger siblings. Fast forward, now my parents are still together but still fighting. I'm the only one left of us "adult kids" and they also have 3 underage kids now. I want to leave but I don't bc every time my parents still fight I'm the only one there comforting my baby siblings and trying to pacify my parents them. It's really hard you guys, and really does thing to your mental psyche. Every other week or so I battle dark thoughts but always pulls myself out bc my younger siblings need me and I don't want them experiencing the weight of the world on their shoulders like i did.
@Smileyshanice6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you shouldn't put that stress on yourself. I grew up in a similar household. I'm the middle child and my sister didn't protect me. The only way to solve your problem is for your parents to get divorced. I thought about killing myself multiple times because of them. At some point you have to put you first. Get out, save money, and have your siblings come with you if you can.
@lase.o6 жыл бұрын
im similar, i dont think mine was so extreme but my parents were always arguing and actually i think them constantly fighting is what made me so close with my siblings now, my parents eventually divorced only recently and i had to make sure my two younger siblings were okay and i care a lot more about their well-being than my parents' fights and drama, i close myself off from my parents and anytime they try to bring up their divorce or any issues they have i genuinely dont care, id rather spend my energy on myself and my siblings who had to deal with their ugly relationship for years.
@ifeedonjinsdadjokes41356 жыл бұрын
You're not alone. I struggle through the same thing. Everytime my parents fight my tries to kill herself and do self harm which is even worse then them already fighting all the time. The sad thing is i can't leave them nor they can divorce since it is considered a bad thing in our society. I really think i would end up becoming a psycho living in a household like this.

I feel the same as you, ive always held my feelings everytime i heard them fight or any of them saying hurtful words and it was really tiring to me tbh and very depressing ... i even tried to talk indirectly to my mom (when my dad went to work) about the ways they both behaved as parents but she never understood wht i was trying to say so i gave up ... I used to talk to her bout those things and all she said was that i always look things negatively ; which i couldn't deny at the very least and it made me sad since what she said is very true but the thing is she still didn't get my message that im always in distress hearing and watching them fight & the dull atmosphere, i just couldn't understand why, altho i discover the cause of argument always links to the finance, household, my parents' family sides and others, but it made me feel so disheartened idk i just wanted a good family that may not be perfect but just understanding and lovable .... this doesn't mean my parents are inconsiderate, im always grateful to them and feeling indebted for all the things they've done tho they may upset me sometimes it's part of life i guess, it's just that i don't love seeing them fight and seeing my mom crying or anything :(( ... Im the only girl (middle child) in the family and having an older brother who's always have this bitter feeling towards me and 15 y.o brother who's always keeping to himself and just don't care nd a 6 year old brother who's way too much to handle sometimes gets me feeling a little bit low and down at times ... ive never even told this to any of my friends but it's keeping me sad for so long and talking about it only makes me sad so i tried to make myself be happy when im with friends and do things but at the same point of time, i could be very unhappy when i realize how unimportant i am to my friends and that my presence is only a bother to them, ive had almost zero self confidence and my difficult personality only makes my friendship going downhill and i get ignored ... im always stuck in between the difficulties i face in my family and in school ... :') it's never been easy

The last concern is the perfect reason why I have certain stereotypes about Koreans. They are OBSESSED with their looks; obsessed with weight, obsessed with height, obsessed about dieting, obsessed about pale skin...y’all can argue that this applies everywhere around the world, but nowhere is more notorious about someone’s appearance than Korea as a whole.
@rainxcviii16126 жыл бұрын
in my opinion some things weren't too big of a concern like making their mom be super active or help her cut down on her unhealthy eating habits. their intentions are different and the diet isn't totally normal but it doesn't seem like too bad of a thing in my opinion. if my mom would actually listen to me and exercise some more and eat healthier i'd feel a lot more at peace? she's turning 50 next month but she already has memory problems and pain in her joints and back and she also has sleeping problems. she's skinny but that's because she was born that way. i still wish she'd exercise and make herself stronger. its proven that exercise helps with memory and increases energy. everyone needs a healthy diet ofc. i just want my mom to live a long and healthy life but she won't listen. she's mexican so the food she cooks is high in carbs and really unbalanced, she always eats bread and coffee 2-3 times a day. she complains that she doesn't want to be a saggy old lady but doesn't exercise. when menopause hits her, shits gonna get real and i don't want to be like "i told you so."
@rainxcviii16126 жыл бұрын
also, i like that they make her mom take on her activities and hobbies. they said it helps with memory and decreases chance of dementia which means they're just looking out for their mom. its true that its wrong for not taking into consideration what their mom wants but maybe they think she's helpless on her own? i'm the same way with my mom. we're like best friends and she asks me opinions about her outfits, what clothes to buy, and asks me to help her learn english. i also signed her up to an online english class and set up daily reminder notifications but she ignores them now. as your parents grow older you want to help them take care of themselves before you really really have to take care of them when they're unable to do so for themselves. those girls are too pushy that their mom is tired of it but their intentions are good.

@ahgaseslvkch28644 жыл бұрын
I don’t think everyone is OBSESSED with their looks more so that they want to look good. Growing up in Korea my parents used to always tell me “beauty is pain” so as I got older I would be told to get the hair on my legs laser removed witch isn’t painful but stings a little and feels uncomfortable. I would wear more heels to look taller so much that I’d get blisters on my feet and it hurt bad but I always remembered “beauty is pain”. I have a few piercings on my ears and I’m a sensitive person so when I got them it hurt a lot but you know what “beauty is pain”. At the end of the day most girls nowadays only look so pretty because parents tell their kids “beauty is pain” so we don’t mind doing this and doing that even if it’s painful because we think if we do it we could be more beautiful. And in Korea parents like to push their kids to be the best, you know like have good grades, don’t bully, don’t do drugs, always have a good appearance etc. and whenever my mom would see a girl that was prettier than me or looked like she was better than me she would say “Jisu why can’t you be more like her look she is perfect” so it would just push me to try harder to be perfect for my mom. Not all Koreans are like this but a lot are and that’s the reason why it looks like we are ‘obsessed’ with our looks. (Every family is different if your Korean and disagree its 110% fine to disagree but that’s how me and my friends were raised)

In the first concern "Sensitive Girl" the mother was trying to tell her daughter that it's okay and not everything it dirty, but commented "don't touch the handrails they're dirty!" when she was okay with other surfaces. The funny thing was that...actually Handrails are relatively quite clean, my graduation project was to study the bacterial growth on surfaces of different areas, and escalator handrails are clean, this is because of the heat and friction it undergoes underground. Just wanted others not to be extra cautious of them and stand unsupported because they are scared of it being dirty. ~Hope you all continuous Health and ultimate Happiness~
I just love how they always give Dong Yeob the concerns with misguiding titles. "A Dirty Concern" and its being read by him, no one ever expects a literal dirty concern.

He said it was cute when the daughter said “mom stop nagging me” like WHAT THE HELL. This got me so upset because what if the daughter said “Go away mom I don’t want you in my like or even near me” would he then be like “oh she’s so cute when she says” that like no it’s not cute it’s rude and you should tell your daughter to not be rude to her own mother. Edit: I forgot to say this in my rant, why would he belittle his own wife in front of the children, I believe this is how the 6 year old (I think) has been taught to not respect her own mother. Hopefully this changes and I hope the best for them.

Especially about saliva and touching things on public transport but it’s mainly because I’ve seen disgusting things people do or leave on seats etc. I just carry a hand sanitiser with me everywhere, though sometimes I worry that it got dirty because my hands were dirty when I touched it and ugh. It’s frustrating really. Edit: it also gets worse for me when I’m stressed out or when I’m not in a good mood. When I’m more relaxed I tend to be more lenient about touching things.

The first concern reminded me strongly of myself several years ago. I was the same, I don't know why, but I believe it was all my anxiety and stress finding a way out, I couldn't even handle being touched by my family members; I overcame it mostly, but it still is hard for me to think that "no, this thing isn't >>dirty

I’ve always thought it was normal to feel disgusted by the thought of touching handrails and such 😷 so disgusting bc some ppl don’t wash their hands and then touch it & then you have to as well

I can relate so much to the first girl even though I am not as serious as she is. And I sort of expected that her mom must be somewhat related to her behavior. I sometimes just wash my hands out of nowhere because I feel like I have been touching so many things and I could get bacteria on my hand. Its quite tiring actually because you keep wondering if you have wash your hands enough.

I’ve noticed this show has a tendency to shame the children that have a problem because the parents are inconvenienced. I know this also has to do with culture, mine is similar but this won’t offer a solution and will only leave the child with more problems and a ruined relationship between child and parent.
@jillianhardy1066 жыл бұрын
It's not really the show just the culture. But the show is influenced by the culture. But I agree 100% with what you're saying. I'm pretty sure it's just that Korean Culture isn't super aware of mental things, and if you havfe one, usually you're shamed for it, rather than encourage to seek help.

53:32 I have huge respect for Dongyeop to ask that question. For him to notice that, I wonder if he has experienced the same thing in his childhood. It’s so sad to think about it and it makes me feel extremely uncomfortable 😣 I feel bad for this family. I don’t think that any of them has ill intentions but they really lost their way somehow. I hope they can find a solution.
