Guftagoo with Gulzar

One hour special episode of Guftagoo with renowned lyricist Gulzar. Born in Deena (Now in Pakistan) on 18th August, 1934, Gulzar came to Delhi after the partition. He thereafter began his film career as an assistant to Bimal Roy. He also worked with Hrishikesh Mukherjee in the beginning of his career. He started writing songs for films with Bimal Da's Bandini. Mora Gora Ang Layee Le is supposed to be his first song. Although his first film to be released was Kabuli Wala, which also had some all time greats like Ganga aaye kahan se. Bandini and Kabuliwala were followed by Sannata, Biwi aur Makan, Do Dooni Chaar and most notable of all Khamoshi and various others during 60's.
After getting recognition as a sensitive lyricist, he started writing scripts and stories for films. Then with Mere Apne in 1971, he turned Director. Since then he has given us lots of beautiful, serious and funny moments through his movies. He has written stories for around 60 films and directed 17 movies, each one a masterpiece.
Gulzar has won 5 National Awards and 19 Filmfare awards.
Gulzar has also been awarded with the coveted Oscar for Best Song with Music Director A R Rahman for the song Jai Ho! of Slumdog Millionaire.

I hope you would not be so abusive to Irfan ji. Because it is the questionnaire that Mr. Irfan has prepared ( he has no papers with him were questions are written) so this is a impromptu talk. But I do feel full admiration for Gulzar for giving us optimistic answers which do convey a sense of peace within himself. All his lyrics are meaningful. I enjoyed every second of the interview. I liked below segment of the interview most at 40:09. I am impressed with Gulzar Sahab again with his way of explanation with flavour of sweetness. I couldn’t resist myself to transcript it. Irfan Sahab : एक टूटे हुए दिल को और सहारा देना और उसे हिम्मत बँधाना, गुलज़ार साहब ये काम नहीं करते ।वो उसे और ज़्यादा रुलाते हैं। अपनी नज़्मों में, अपने गीतों में। वो उसे और अकेला बनाते हैं। ये क्या एक revenge full agenda है? It is an irony that a beautiful language and heritage like Urdu has been sidelined from all walks of life specially from films even these days titles are not in Urdu. Urdu is the most precise language and Bengali the most sweet language in the world. That is what I was told by my Professor of English Lit. who was a master of the Urdu language. I am a Bengali but my love for Urdu wants to make me soak in the language. It takes you to a different world altogether!!

1.Hindi was Born from Sanskrit (Father) 2. Urdu Nurtured Hindi (Mother) 3. Urdu itself was Born of Persian 4. Persian itself was Deeply Deeply Enriched from Arabic and Turkish 5. So the Modern Hindustani Hindi is a Hybrid of Sanskrit, Urdu,Persian, Arabic, Turkish and English. (My own mother Tongue, Persian or Farsi, has the highest contribution to modern Hindi)
