Fun fact: Diablo in hell has the highest chance of dropping a monarch, which is obviously the reason why you'll most probably get it from any other monster in chaos or ancient tunnels or any other high density area. There are just not that many Diablos in chaos sanctuary and there are a lot of other monsters that can drop a monarch with a not much lower chance than Diablo has.

hell cows is best spot for monarchs compare to all other places in game currently bosses dont drop grey items vs cows drop tons of them. even to get a hell boss to drop a grey or white not much chance cows do it easy. reguardless of mf amounts

Crypt/mausoleum by blood raven has a 1/6000 chance to drop monarch from any mob. Usually farm that for a couple hours and I have one before I even best act 1. Not to mention there’s an armor rack that spawns as well.

Love the guide although i remember from way back when, that larzon was usally something you wanted to save for unique unsocked items, but i suppose now that you dont need mule accounts to swap over, that the quest there might be less important, since it's fast to level one over in normal and do it that way?

If you just progress through the game you can find bases in act 1 nightmare. White items dropped in there max at 4os. This way you have a chance at getting the bases you need during your playthrough without having to do extra farming.

If you have a friend (or 2 accounts) it only takes ~1/2 an hour to get a fresh character to normal A5 and do the Larz quest. Its likely going to be faster to create a quick mule, rush to A5, do the quest and get max sockets then taking the gamble on the cube recipe and potentially having to re-farm your base (IE Monarch). I did this all the time to get all my unique gear its sockets.

As another tip. Since we now have Shared Stash without PlugY you can just make a one off character to run for the socket quest if you don't want to chance it with the cube. Not the quickest way but is guaranteed.

Indeed, i've been thinking of doing that I wonder which class would be the fastest to do so and what would be the fastest way to do it if you have a friend, like if he creates a tp to andariel in act 1 on your new char will it give you the quest to kill it and unlock act 2, before doing the same thing until you reach act 5 ?

@@Tyjerr Have no idea about getting someone to take you to the act bosses. But if by yourself fastest will be Sorceress followed by Assassin. Sorceress because of Teleport of course but has to wait till 18 but Assassin has burst of Speed at level 6.

Thanks for your advice! I was able to get a white crystal sword and use the socket recipe to make a Spirit for my trap assassin. I then got lucky on a 4 socket halberd drop to make an insight for my merc. A better polearm base would be nice, but the runes are fairly common so I can find another in the future.

I have been having trouble with the insight rune word where the meditation aura will turn off and on every 3 seconds or so, so I'm constantly hearing the "EeeEEeEee" of the meditation aura over and over and over and over and over. So Paladins are a sought out class because of Spirit and Insight early. Sorceress is sought out because mobility and glass cannon. And in D2 (like D3) damage is king? Did I get that right?

Once you have your first insight, you should aim for a Colossus Voulge to replace it. I usually try to aim for 2x Great Poleaxe. 1x insight + 1x crescent moon. Cheap Fast boss clearing merc.

There are item levels depending on the difficulty of the game. To get 4 sockets with crystal sword for example do normal cow runs where it's guaranteed it's item level 26-41 I believe

People that say to use the socket quest to make an insight or a spirit is bad advice. Use the cube to socket that stuff and just wait until you get the runes and gems to socket an item to make an insight/spirit. Do not use the quest to socket stuff that can be socketed with the cube. Save the quest. Do not listen to them. The socket quest is way more valuable than a spirit or an insight. Save the socket quest to socket a shako, Griffons, or something more important. Only use the socket quest for end game gear. Cause that is the only way to socket that stuff. But you can find other ways to get an insight/spirit. But you can't socket your shako with the cube. Trust me. It might take longer to get that stuff in the early game. But you will be thanking me when your playing in the end game. People that tell you to use the socket quest for an insight/spirit are just telling you to waste your socket quest. Even if you get 3 per character... Trust me it's not worth it. I wish I didn't listen to this advive. I have so many 4 socket elite polearms, 4 socket shields (paladin and monarch), and 4 socket swords (anywhere from phase blade to longswords) that I don't know what to do with them. But I have so many end game items (unique and other wise) that I need to socket and that can only be socketed with the quest. So just don't do it.

Enigma is an end-game item. Not something that’s attainable right now. You’ll just have to sink a lot of points into str. There is a lot of good alternatives though.

Hey all! I asked this question on another video but figured I’d ask here as well to help extend my reach. But I played this into the ground as a kid bet never knew the importance of runes. So here’s a question I can’t find an answer to. If I’m looking at making some of these basic pieces such as Steel, Stealth, Lore, Ancients Pledge, etc. about how long will that last me until I need to upgrade? I mean, if I make/equip them at the beginning of Act 2 Normal, obviously by mid Act 3, there will be better armor to equip. Is that when I should try to go to the next tier of runes and create better armor/Runewords or are the basic items I make in Act 2 good enough t to last me through that difficulty? This may be a silly question but just trying to understand upgrading better. Thank you!

At least for me, i was using stealth and ancients pledge that i made in normal until i hit hell. I would farm countess runs in nightmare until i either had enough to upgrade (say to get smoke for nightmare) If you have a TAL and ETH rune you could also make that for a shield and its okay (but ancients pledge is better for res) After that it was just more RNG to find the bases or just go back to normal shops.

I used my Stealth and Steel from act 2 for all of Normal and in retrospect I could've suited up in act 1 and still never needed to change that gear.

(I'm new to the series but have been reading up a lot on the mechanics to understand them better since they're pretty odd compared to what we have nowadays)
