I really wish I did my research when I got my first designer bag almost 10 years ago. I got a Gucci and I used it regularly for at least a year or two but no more than that 😞 LV was my other option at the time, but I was kinda being stubborn and I wanted something different than everybody else. Now I talk about it with my Aunt, who has a few LV pieces, and I tell her how much that I regret not getting a LV instead of my Gucci. It was actually a gift from my husband that I was able to pick out myself. I still have the bag today, because it was the first bag my husband bought for me ☺️

Just based on price, I would not recommend Chanel as a first luxury bag. Maybe SLG. My first was LV Eva clutch in DE and I love it!! A few Louis' later and I'm getting ready for a Pochette Metis, maybe in empriente. Thank you!!!

It took me a long time to decide my first designer bag... I do think LV speedy, favorite, and alma are beautiful but they are just not my style I really don't know how do style them with my wardrobe. Chanel bags and some LV leather bags are my dream bags but I can't afford them right now. So I go with Gucci... I know it's trendy but that is something really fits my style and I can wear in every day basis. If I am older or looking for a bag for work I will definitely buy a different bag.

I've been ready to purchase my first LV handbag for a while and I know I want the Speedy 30 in the monogram pattern. My dilemma? Should I go ahead and invest in a brand new one or should I go the pre-loved route? At first I was pretty sure I wanted to buy it brand new because it is my first LV that I would get to unwrap myself and get to use from the beginning ❤️ however I just recently saw one listed on Poshmark (if you're familiar with this app) that's in flawless pre-owned condition. I think the LV Neverfull MM is the perfect "starter" bag for any female looking to buy her first designer handbag. I had one as my first, however, I sadly had to sell it. I had to pack it full everyday because my father was in the hospital, and I was there most of the day. It made my shoulder and arm hurt so badly that my hand went dumb! I am looking for a crossbody. I am choosing between an Odeon MM (used), a Pochette Metis, a Siracusa, and a mini Chanel Mimi Rectangular (I think that's the one). Which one of these is the least trendy??

I agree with Chanel and Hermes being above other designer brands, but Louis Vuitton is not. I think Louis Vuitton is a basic design brand which makes great travel bags, great wallets and other small stuff. And good quality basic handbas. Only few of their bags are actually high end, and those would be their all leather bags like the Capucines bag. I think Dior, YSL (Saint Laurent), Celine are above Louis Vuitton.

Couldn't agree more! For me, the trifecta is Chanel-Dior-Hermès! Louis Vuitton has history and some really amazing pieces like the Petit Mallet, Capucines, and even the Pochette Metis (in terms of style), but I think it's so popular that lost the luxury feel that those other brands have. YSL and Celine are amazing too and have the cool factor, appealing to a more young clientele.

I agree Dior is above LV. But how is Celine above LV? I own Celine bags; they are so susceptible to scratches and the leather will soften and slouch over time. Just 2 years of owning a Celine and I regret so much buying them. Just curious, whats your take in this?

Mybagoftheday no matter how many people own LV, it’s a top brand hands down. My trifecta is Chanel, LV and Hermes. I consider how the brand is perceived, it’s monetary value and the heritage behind the brand. You also have to consider resale value. An LV classic will hold its value as time goes but other designer brands tend to have bags that are trendy so they’ll be hot for a few years but not a decade from now. This happened to Celine and prada and will probably happen to Gucci, and a few Dior popular bags. The lady bag maybe not but who knows.

Hi Shea! Thanks for your tips! I have my heart set on a LV bag for my first designer bag, but I’m struggling to decide between the adorable speedy B 30 in DE and the new Iena MM in DE. I know the Iena isn’t a classic, but I’m a mom of a 5 month old boy and I think the Iena MM would be such an easy go-to bag and I love the outside pocket! It reminds me of a Neverfull with a zipper! :) But when I see the Speedy B 30 in DE, I loooooove how it looks even though I don’t usually like top handles! It looks adorable on your instagram and I love that it can dress up any outfit, especially on days when I’m struggling to look cute with my young baby! I love both sizes...but I definitely recommend the 30! The 25 would just be more of a crossbody bag...where as the 30 converts to almost every kind of bag!

BonitaHaitian _ I wanted to bring my LV to college but since my campus isn't the safest in the world (only going because of good program) I (don't attack me now) bought a fake bag off iOffer. That way, if something were to happen - like it gets stolen - I wouldn't be as devastated because it's a cheap knockoff. I would say it depends on how safe you feel around campus. I'm going to be living in a dorm so that's another reason why I bought a fake.

Alli Hicks monogram hands down. It’s a beautiful print that’s recognizable and let’s say you don’t like it down the road...you can sell it and make back around what you paid for. Great investment piece.
