Thank you for this video. I am finding there is not a great deal of information regarding the use of all the Ceracolor products. I keep referring to your video as I acquire more of the colours and mediums. I am having fun learning how to use them. It is also not a product you find in many art supply shops, I am fortunate that here on Vancouver Island there is a supplier, I am currently awaiting a shipment from Iron Oxide in Nanaimo. For anyone interested in learning about the history of this medium I encourage them to watch the KZbin video about the artist Cuni and the History of water soluble encaustic paint. I found it fascinating. Look forward to more of your videos and ideas of how to work with Ceracolors. Thanks again, from an artist on Vancouver Island, Canada.

Hey there, would it be possible to get a video of using the ceracolors without any water? I'm curious to know if you can layer colors on top of each other without mixing them, for instance a white over a black? I'm assuming they dry much faster without water... Edit: It says here: imgur.com/a/EuUqdeG that they can be layered opaquely like gouache, just wondering how "opaque" they can get, considering most colors are semi-transparent?

Yes, they behave a lot like gouache. Check out my video where I use Ceracolors to make scratchboard-like drawings. I paint an opaque layer of white over a layer of black without using water or mediums. Hope this helps.

@@alexrydlinski Thanks for the response! Just checked it out. Without a heat-gun (and without water + mediums) how long do the paints take to dry before you can layer one overtop of another? Are all of the colors as opaque as the white and black, or are they mostly semi-transparent would you say?

@@GemExtractor Depending on how thick you apply it, paint straight from the tube dries in a matter of minutes. Usually too fast for me, so I use mediums and the retarder additive. Natural Pigments is big on letting each pigment’s unique properties come through, so the paints are all a little different. Mars Red is much more opaque than Phthalo Green, for example. They do a good job describing each color on their site and they always include the opacity in their list of specs.

Excellent, that helps alot. Regarding the mediums, could one make their own paint with dry pigments or pigment dispersion for Ceracolors? I was checking out the other brand Cuni and they have a medium for this....have you per chance tried this brand as well? Maybe just using ceracolors titanium white would do the trick if I also want an opaque paint....specifically after a fast drying, matte and super opaque paint I can layer in quick succession

@@GemExtractor yes, you can make your own paint using the fluid medium or gel medium mixed with dry pigments or aqueous dispersions. Maybe a good idea for a future video demo. I have never used Cuni. As for Ceracolors, I don’t think you’ll have any trouble with the drying time, and remember it can always go even quicker with some heat.
