In this Tip of the Month video, Robert Mopper, VP of Sales and dental esthetics instructor, shows us how to use the Mini FlexiDiscs system to finish and polish a composite restoration. These aluminum oxide dental finishing and polishing discs are created specifically for contouring, shaping, and polishing dental composite resin.
After curing the composite, Robert starts with the Coarse Mini FlexiDisc for initial contouring and shaping of the restoration. He moves the disc from proximal to facial, flexing lightly. The Coarse Discs sets up embrasure and line angles.
Robert continues refining the contour and setting up embrasures, going from the incisal to the facial. He switches to the smaller 3/8" Medium Disc to work along the margin.
Robert then moves to the yellow, Fine Mini FlexiDisc to start the initial polish of the composite. Robert finishes with the Superfine Mini FlexiDisc to achieve a lustrous, natural final polish on the restorations.
Mini FlexiDiscs have a mini center, providing a maximum polishing surface on the disc. They are available in three sizes, 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8", and four grit surfaces:
Coarse - Starts the finishing process by helping you contour surfaces, remove imperfections, and define margins.
Medium - Completes the finish and removes small scratches.
Fine - Creates a beautiful polish.
Superfine - Enhances your polish to an enamel-like luster
