Root canals have become ubiquitous-almost 60 million are performed each year in the United States. “You need a root canal‟ is now almost as common as hearing “you need a filling.” It is the only treatment protocol available to retain a tooth that is diseased. Yet, just how safe are root canals? And, what is the science behind there being a non-toxic alternative to tooth extractions?
On today’s Broken Brain Podcast, our host Dhru talks to Dr. Rouzita Rashtian, a biological dentist and surgeon. After having earned her undergraduate degree at University of California Los Angeles with high honors in Neuroscience, Dr. Rouzita Rashtian went on to attend the University of Southern California where she completed her degree in doctor of dental surgery.
Dr. Rashtian believes that every individual deserves the highest quality in dental care. She practices utilizing modern health as a platform in helping patients understand the relationship between their mouth and overall health, in her Los Angeles dental office. Her focus is on holistic and biological dentistry; the philosophy recognizing the teeth and associated structures as part of the whole body. Because of this important relationship, she offers a plethora of healthy treatment options, stressing the use of non-toxic materials focusing on the impact that toxins and hidden bacteria can have on cumulative health. She uses minimally invasive techniques to preserve healthy tooth structure and incorporates laser technology and ozone therapy. She holds a SMART certification license through the prestigious International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology. She is also a member of the Holistic Dental Association and the International Association of Mercury-safe Dentists and Biomimetic Dentistry.
In this episode, Dhru and Dr. Rashtian dive deep into the topic of root canals. They discuss what a root canal treatment involves, why you might end up needing one, and alternative treatment options. Dr. Rashtian also shares a few case studies from her practice where a root canal was the underlying cause of a patient’s health issue.
In this episode, we dive into:
- What is biological dentistry (6:16)
- What is a root canal (12:39)
- The four factors to avoid a root canal (18:20)
- Why root canals can be problematic (24:42)
- What you should look out for if you’ve had a root canal (44:42)
- Traditional tooth extraction vs. holistic tooth extraction (48:52)
- Ozone therapy in dentistry (50:48)
- Options for tooth replacement (54:23)
- Case studies from Dr. Rashtian’s dental practice (1:00:52)
- How to work with Dr. Rashtian (1:15:28)

Why oh why do dentists, including biological dentists, charge so much? It is unbelievable what they charge! They blame it on the labs that charge them so much. At least that’s what my dentist says. This is one of the main reasons people push their dental health to the back burner. We have spent over 15,000 so far and are looking at spending at least that much to do what needs to be done. This is $30,000. Dental prices are so overpriced, it is immoral to me.

Yes - it is immoral. Tooth cleaning $625. Allegedly deep cleaning is needed. Why? To spread around bacteria? I worked in company with many software engineers who recently came from India. All of them were taking vacations to go back home and to do dental work there. Prices about 10% of prices in US. And I heard that crowns used in US are made in India. The crown replacement = $1,300, bridge $3,600. That is simply a rip-off. I just had tooth extracted $2,300. Unbelievable.

Didnt go to the dentist from 18-24 Nd finally got the courage to go because the pain was getting bad Over the next few years i slowly chipped away at all the issues with my dentist by 27 i was finished, im now 40 and still no issues whatsoever and im extremely greatful to my dentist team. @@ipranoj Yes, a bump on the gum between the tooth with the root canal and the next one. I would press it with my finger, and that would cause the bump to sort of 'pop' and deflate, maybe releasing fluid via the salivary gland, but every few weeks it would reoccur. But this started up decades after the original procedure. As soon as the tooth was removed, the inflammation stopped.

@@ipranoj go for repeat RCT. Best way is like this. Get removed cap and the filling, dry it for 2months (no cap no filling ), after 2 months get filling, check for 2 to 3 Weeks, later go for crown. If you fallow these steps RCT tooth can last life time. You can have repeat RCT for every 10 years removing filling and cap. This process make sure removal of bacteria in the filling over time. Like this your RcT teeth can stay even 80 to 90 years. More better and longer duration than implants. My brother is Endodontist and also assistant professor in dental college. He said he has seen people with successful RCT teeth that lasted more then 40 to 50 years. Implants sure ly not alternative to RCT teeth because they lack natural ligaments that natural teeth have. they are like shock absorbers while chewing. So implants get loose over time and wear out after 20 to 30 years.implants are little use if they are for molars, if not totally useless..!!

I was an assistant for almost 15 years an even I have ended up losing my teeth (autoimmune condition) and there’s no way I can afford the work I need. My overall health has suffered greatly! Both physically and mentally. But it’s all cosmetic right! 🙄 I’m 45 so although I’m not 20 anymore I’m not 80 yet an I don’t want to look like I am. Also being able to actually eat would be a dream! (Do you know what it does to an Italian to take away their ability to rip into a chunk of Italian bread!?🙇🏻‍♀️ It’s like pulling all the teeth from a vampire!) The whole field of dentistry has to change! I witnessed the financial problems of my patients throughout my career and it’s always pissed me off how the system works. Also not all doctors are created equally so you’ll never know if their technical skills are up to par. Just because someone is nice and the office is pretty doesn’t mean that they’re a good doctor!

Six years ago, my dentist convinced me to have a root canal. Two weeks ago, I started experiencing concerning symptoms-- neck, jaw, and tongue pain. Long story short, the root canal was infected big time. The tooth was extracted, I just finished a course of antibiotics, but I still feel weak. I hope and pray I will be well again. In my opinion, an ethical dentist who recommends a root canal should inform patients of the risks. I experienced all of these. 1. A root canal can fail due to the challenge of removing all of the infection. 2. When the nerve is removed from a tooth, the normal mechanism for detecting infection is gone. This means that future infection in a root canal can grow and spread undetected without natural pain signals. Early stages of an infection cannot be detected on an x-ray. 3. A tooth with a root canal becomes increasingly brittle. If the tooth needs to be extracted in the future, the tooth is likely to fracture into pieces and present challenges during removal. 4. An undetected infection from a root canal can spread to other teeth, bone, gums, tongue, cheeks, and face, and result in sepsis and even death. I would like to go to a functional doctor and biological dentist, but who can afford this? Also, there are so few.

I was told by my dentist that I needed a root canal because of an abscess that came on suddenly. He refered me to an endodontist but because of the expense I went to the dental university nearby and found out it was not the root but a popcorn husk in the gum area!! I also have some minor bone loss beginning so periodontal cleaning is what was needed and a root canal would have failed because the bone loss would have continued. The doctor would have made bucks doing the crown and probably pulling the tooth in a year. I hate dentists now!! They are as corrupt and slimy as politicians. It IS ALWAYS about the money

I was never taken to a dentist until I was 11 years old, and when I was, they found lots of cavities and gave me lots of fillings. Then, ever since then, I kept getting abscesses, and I was given root canals, and then they kept pulling them as I got older. I am now 72, and I just had all my teeth pulled and I opted for false teeth with implanted snaps to hold them in. I have noticed that I have more energy but I still have tinnitus. The dental surgeon who pulled all of my teeth didn't even smooth down the sharp spikes in the bone after pulling my teeth, so they cut through the flap that he created to cover over the bone spurs. He also didn't do a post op exam. When I went back to show him how the bone spikes had cut through the gums he gave me a BS excuse and said that if I wanted him to smooth them down I would have to pay extra and said that he couldn't do it until 2 months later, which was in the middle of the winter holidays. I refused to let him touch me after that. I tried to find an attorney to write a letter for me to convince him to do it sooner and not make me pay extra since it wouldn't have been necessary if he had done it right in the first place. But none of then attorneys in my town will touch a dental case, not even to write a letter. I found the same thing when I lived in California when another dental group had done terrible things to my teeth, which has caused me to have them all pulled. I have put my career on hold for 10 years because I didn't have any front teeth and didn't look professional. Now I have no teeth and can't even wear my false teeth because of what this last oral surgeon has done and I will have to pay a new dentist another $3,000 to get this resolved, after already paying $22,000 cash to the oral surgeon. I have had a heart condition since my 20s, about the same time that I got my first root canal.

Dentist with 35 years experience here: What this dentist FAILS to say in this interview is that MOST root canals go VERY WELL...The internal infection is removed from within the tooth, a filler material is placed and the tooth is restored. This dentist is advocating to NEVER get a root canal which is just downright wrong & promoting a more expensive procedures......In certain cases - especially in molar teeth where a root canal might be needed - an extraction MIGHT be the better choice depending on the patient, the surrounding area, the general health of the patient, how extensive us the existing restoration if there is even one & financially can they take on the cost of the procedure. Not everyone makes big bucks to restore teeth with implants when a root canal would have worked nicely....Right now, I have a young 27 year old young mom with two young children that had deep decay close to the nerve. She is struggling to make ends meet. She has a pretty smile and the rest of the teeth are fine. The tooth was filled and unfortunately, the tooth always stayed sensitive. I sent her to a root canal specialist, root canal treatment was done & the tooth is feeling great. The tooth will be restored. This young lady could barely afford the root canal. Should I have pushed her for an extraction & a $5k-7k (depending the area) implant & implant restoration?!!!! NO. This root canal should give her many years of good service. Will the tooth last for her for the next 60 years assuming she lives to a ripe age of 88 years old? Maybe, maybe not. But RIGHT NOW, this was the best option.......Can a root canal fail? Yes, they can. BUT THE MAJORITY DON'T. ......Here this dentist is promoting expensive CT scans ( that is RADIATION, people & most likely costs $400) to check that MAYBE an asymptotic root canal may be failing.......CT scans have their place & but I consider this dentists tactics as "selling dentistry" as we call it in the business.......Also, every dentist on the planet has been taught to extract a tooth and completely debride the socket. She make us sound like cave men and she knows the best treatment. Sorry, folks, but the majority of extractions heal VERY WELL once the tooth is removed & the socket is debrided. Doing extra after that is just another unnecessary procedure she will charge you for. You have been warned ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️

I hear you and agree that each person has their own needs and circumstances. In my case, I heard from a former alternative cancer treatment counselor, Ken Henderson, who observed that all of his cancer patients had root canals. The first line of his cancer treatment protocol called for removal of the root canals. I had my root canals (2 upper front) for decades but had them removed starting from 2 years ago. You’re not considering the other factors of health outside of what you perceive as “healthy”. You don’t know someone’s underlying health conditions and unless someone has extremely good hygiene and exercises regularly than a root canal can be ok. But most people do not exercise 5 times a week nor do they practice excellent hygiene. Your comment is selfish or maybe just naive. Almost Every single person should opt for a holistic approach over a cosmetic approach if they care about their health. If something is decayed why are we covering it up? Take out the trash right and clean the house up a bit around the trash can. Eliminate the decay 100%… we don’t partially empty a trash can and spray it with febreeze and mask it. There is potential for bacteria or infection in both RCT or Extraction but RCT can be detrimental to someone’s actual health and quality of life. It should only be suggested to people who are in excellent shape and already take care of their health.

This lady has zero knowledge regarding root canal treatment. Endodontist who have studied root canal for years know the value and risks of procedure. Whatever she is telling has no evidence. After a lot of reasearch for many years Root canal treatment is ideal choice of saving tooth which are badly decayed If you want your teeth extracted then you have to replace it further with an implant or Bridge...it also had its cons, if not done correctly it can lead to bone loss and infection. Later you will not have any option left.. if you leave space without replacement your teeth will start moving your bite will change you will have pain. At the end every body reacts to every treatment in a different way. Most of the root canal treated teeth last life time without any adverse effects.

Me too I saw an endodontist who wanted to do a root canal without even looking at two CT scans that have been done in the last six months that show I have a lesion that caused my need to go to the emergency department at UCLA Santa Monica twice and I was diagnosed with facial cellulitis, but I just had a dental cleaning and found out after I was chatting with the Receptionist, the dentist walked by and overheard and wanted to look at my CT scans. She referred me to an endodontist who I met had a consult with and wanted to do a root canal literally in 72 hours, which would’ve Monday Feb.5th (my tomorrow morning which I had to reschedule to a week from tomorrow for financial reasons because I don’t have dental insurance and he wants $2000 approximately so that amount of money can change because it’s tooth number 31 back lower molar. The dentist that had read my CT scan also gave me a referral card to a oral and Max facial surgeon at St. John’s in Santa Monica. After going in my wallet, I opened up the card and on the card for this referral of this secondary dentist there’s a checkmark next to extraction and then a checkmark next to implant for tooth number 31 so she gave me a referral to two different specialists. I’m gonna go to the urgent dental clinic at UCLA in Westwood first thing in the morning. I’d rather a dental student at UCLA where my daughter-in-law went to medical school, touch my face and my teeth if I can’t afford this lovely dentist, who I just listen to an hour and a half interview with this KZbin channel that I of course politely subscribed to, and like the video and I don’t even know Who this nice young man is, but when I have time and it’s not midnight, I will definitely look at his channel that I subscribe to and check out his other interviews because this was an excellent informative emotionally and physically lifesaving moment. 56 years old I had heart surgery 20 years ago last month. None of these questions were asked about my health. I just had to say who my primary care doctor was and it was such a long thing to fill out that I didn’t even finish filling out my medical information and they wanted to take two grand And bullshitted me that they could get all the infection out of my jaw with a root canal. I’m gonna go reread both CT scans now in my chart because I’ve gotten incredible team of doctors that I’ve taken an unbelievable care of me but I had a massive two day spine surgery at UC San Francisco working in coordination with my entire team down here in Los Angeles and I have top doctors even though I don’t have a Blue Cross PPO anymore and I’m on Medi-Cal and the first reason I was going to private pay dentist is because the one dentist that did take Medi-Cal when I just needed a dental cleaning Wanted to do something to 11 of my teeth when I had one small cavity so I asked one of my older sisters, childhood friends who is a dentist if she would see me and she totally opened up her office just because my sister is and gave me a feeling she seemed way more concerned and because I just had my teeth cleaned. She walked to the back and made me eat a handful of antibiotics, after a teeth cleaning she was so concerned after looking at both CT scans being able to read what the radiology report said. I’m not a doctor, so I do not try anymore to google things which I’m shocked that this video appeared because I was trying to catch up on other Channels I am subscribed to. Thanks for what you wrote in the comments. I also commented and good luck with your teeth. Just like the Medi-Cal dentist it seems like they just wanted to charge Medi-Cal and do work on teeth that didn’t need to be done so that’s why I’ve gone to my sister‘s friend, the dentist to get my teeth cleaned and one small cavity filled I wasn’t even due for x-rays Until later this month because she does x-rays once a year. Well she did not let me leave that office without me doing x-rays so that was another 300 bucks. I was happy to pay because she was truthfully worried when she overheard my conversation and I thought I was supposed to book up Appointment with my dermatologist in Westwood when I called UCLA and told them the ER diagnosis of facial cellulitis. They said that scan you need to see your dermatologist not your primary care doctor so so so so I’m beyond lucky to found this video and listened to this lovely dentist For the last hour and a half> take care of your teeth, and after this one and a half hours of information, I’d rather have my tooth pulled and go without a tooth there for as many weeks as it needs to heal or whatever then go have a root canal which I did some googling before making this comment and a root canal cannot get rid of all infection. I’m so disturbed by the fact I almost put two grand on my credit card. I’m on disability was almost ripped off and tortured for a treatment. That is the wrong treatment. Maybe that’s why she gave me a referral card to two different kind of dental surgeons wow…. you get what you pay for usually and for having one tooth x-rayed multiple times at least I know why I ended up in the emergency department where I was so swollen I could not speak and let alone breathe and swallow and I was taking in both times immediately I did not wait they took me in as fast as if I was having a heart attack and I kind of felt bad for all those people in the waiting area two days after Christmas, but UCLA Santa Monica emergency department is top-notch and both times they pump me with IV antibiotics and ordered proper CT scans. I’m just disappointed with the UCLA appointment number receptionist who told me I needed to see a dermatologist. They should’ve at least sent me to my primary care physician ..wtf? It Los Angeles so ……..(🤬😳🤯🧐

I had a front lower incisor tooth fracture 30 years ago. The dentist treated it by using the root canal method with a replacement crown. The procedure was on a Friday, and my dentist was away attending a conference that weekend. The tooth formed a massive abccess infection that entire weekend. The pain was excruciating. I went back to his office complaining of severe swelling and pain. He drilled out the new root canal fill, releasing a torrent of pus across his room. He still continued to crown this tooth even though it was uncomfortable. Over the years, I had dental pain and swelling around this tooth. I frequently over two decades had sensitivity, and I frequently developed stomach pain and flu like symptoms. Finally, the tooth needed surgery, removing the tissue directly under the existing root this causing me severe discomfort and sick bouts of unusual fevers. Ultimately, after 20 years, the tooth Finally just loosened and fell out. After two decades, I finally had relief and felt normal. I dread ever having to face the possibility of another root canal.

I had painful canine tooth with cavity two yrs ago , I asked the dentist to take it out , he said it is too drastic and he will do a root canal on my tooth to save the tooth . i was in excruciating pain and was not in the mood to debate with him despite the fact that i had all the information about root canals and their long term effects on health ... Since i was in extreme pain i told the dentist to go ahead and do the root canal so i can get rid of the pain for now , Here where i live gov health insurance covers the dental procedures so nothing to lose anyway.... my plan was to get rid of the pain and then take some time and research more about implants and other options before the extraction....dentist told me that they have state of the art water lase machines to disinfect the tooth and i should not worry about it for at least next 5 or 10 yrs ( I was doubtful though ) ..... six months ago i started to feel discomfort in my root canal tooth along with fatigue and mild sick feeling….. and two months ago i started getting hives on my body....i am in good health otherwise with no other health issues so i was certain that it is my root canal tooth already infected and it is time to take action .. went to several dentists and all refused to take it out because on x rays and 3-d scans it looks perfect and showed no ongoing infection, looked pristine and no abnormality showing up .... one of them offered me to re- do the root canal and i said “ NO” ..... at last found a dentist who reluctantly agreed to extract the tooth , but he still thought that my tooth was ok and extraction was unnecessary .... when he took out the tooth he was shocked to see the infection at the root already moving towards the bone .. he told me i was right to take it out. I am not saying dentists have bad intentions or they are bad people, they are professionals and willing to help ,the only problem is that they don’t want to think out of the box .. they don’t want people to lose their teeth which makes sense but root canal is a questionable procedure possibly with some serious health consequences if gone bad …..so they must inform the patient when planning to do a root canal and patient should be monitored for any related health problems on regular basis . The numbers of root canals performed worldwide I wonder how many people living with mysterious life-threatening ailments and idiopathic autoimmune disease caused by silent infections of root canals. I had the knowledge and my body was sensitive enough to warn me of an ongoing infection but not everybody is so lucky.

This episode was incredibly fascinating and impactful. I had always wondered why my dentist had mentioned a root canal would likely be necessary in the future, but was reluctant (I’m autoimmune and on several immunosuppressants, immunomodulators etc.) and apprehensive. I didn’t understand the gravity of them, however have known many to have undergone such procedures with catastrophic outcomes and general decline ( very grateful to have a dentist whom doesn’t just think about his bottom line). This was explained so clearly and really reminded me of how much we must take an active role in our own health. People inject blind faith into their medical professionals and often don’t question their options, but this is further proof of how vital it is to do so. Thank you so much for another, wonderful episode:)

Well sounds like I'm doomed to repeat my mother's experience. We suspected her idiopathic oral cancer was related to excessive dental x rays done with old machines, but most of her teeth had root canals. Oral cancer, heart disease, DM 2, arthritis, GI disease, etc.= mom. This interview is a real eye opener. Too late for mom, rest her soul.

@chirpbirds924 removed the root canals = removal of the crown and the dead tooth the dentist told me to "save". If a teeth must be root canaled then = pulled only. If a teeth has been root canaled =must pull out. It's not easy getting a dentist to pull a tooth that had the root canal procedure. I had to beg my original dentist to do it and sign a waiver that i wouldn't sue them.

@ellem8010 thanks. The improvement was near instant, within 1 week. The metals circulating and bacteria cause numerous problems and manifest as different symptoms. That's what tricky because you assume your new diseases or worsening preexisting conditions are caused by something else such as age, bad diet, family history etc. When its non of that. Trust me nothing will improve your health except removal. It's in the published research. Doctors will try to get you on strong steroids - life will go downhill with that

I had sworn to never have another root canal, but did, last year. It had increasing pain for several months and the dentist kept telling me nothing was wrong. I was suicidal and couldn't eat or drink anything that wasn't body temp. Finally it exploded, pushing out a chunk of old filling material. Some kind of fluid went through my sinus and down my throat, burning. Then a year of hideous stomach pain. Took huge amounts of Mastica and after 6 months have started to improve. The worst was the dentist's denial that anything was wrong.

This came up on my feed today, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow for a filling. I fell and chipped one of my top front teeth 27 months ago. It started to go pink and black, I was so upset. My NHS (UK) dentist suggested root canal. I paid to get a second opinion from a specialist. He suggested I left it alone for a minimum of six months and monitor. I took his advice and the discoloration went and I have some feeling back in this tooth. I'm grateful for his advice as I totally believe in the whole body approach to health. Thank you for this interesting and informative post.

I’ve been dealing with stomach issues for years and about 1-2 years ago my overall health declined significantly. I am 30 years old so I should not be dealing with this. I have several food sensitivities now so I changed my diet and saw a little improvement. Then I started working with a functional doctor, who believed in me and found other issues that I wasn’t aware of, including that my body has been fighting an inflammation. We started the treatment and that alone already made me feel a lot better! But I had no idea that biological dentistry existed until I saw this video about a month ago. I decided to have my root canal checked by a biological dentist and guess what?! We were able to detect two abscesses on a 2D X-ray, which means it is pretty bad!! I have no symptoms on that tooth at all, not even bad breath (I asked my husband and friends). I would never have found this inflammation if it wasn’t for this video. I’m having my root canal removed holistically in a few days. Can’t wait to see how my overall health will improve after that!! May you and Dr Rashtian be very blessed!!! Thank you so much for making this information available!! 🙏🏼💜

As an endodontist with years of experience, I have seen countless patients who have benefited greatly from root canal therapy. While there are many videos online that promote dental implants as the superior treatment option, I must say that such claims are often misguided and misleading. Firstly, the success rates of root canal therapy are impressively high, with research indicating success rates of up to 90% or more in many cases. This is particularly noteworthy when you consider that root canal treatment is often performed on teeth that are severely damaged or infected, and may otherwise require extraction. In contrast, dental implants can have success rates ranging from 85% to 98%, but they come with a much higher cost. Speaking of cost, root canal therapy is an incredibly cost-effective treatment option. In India, the average cost of a root canal ranges from 3,000 to 6,000 INR per tooth, depending on the severity of the case and other factors. In comparison, dental implants can cost anywhere from 25,000 to 50,000 INR per tooth, making them a much more expensive option for most patients. Moreover, dental implants often require additional surgical procedures, such as bone grafting, which further add to the overall cost and complexity of the treatment. Root canal therapy, on the other hand, is a relatively straightforward procedure that can be completed in a single visit or in a few visits, depending on the case. In conclusion, I strongly believe that root canal therapy is a highly effective, cost-efficient, and reliable treatment option for patients with damaged or infected teeth. While dental implants may have their place in certain cases, they should not be considered as a superior alternative to root canal therapy in most cases. So, if you are facing dental issues, I highly recommend consulting with a qualified endodontist who can guide you in making an informed decision about your treatment options.

The best point I heard was no other medical doctor would leave dead tissue left in your body as they know it would cause infection. The lie is that the root canal kills your tooth. We now know if other nerves are there and die then bacteria will take over and the tooth is very much alive and always was just not with blood but was replaced with bacteria. My mom had at least one root canal and the only thing she suffered was gall bladder problems so not sure if that was related but not everyone will get cancer or heart disease and those problems are likely contingent upon the health and lifestyle of the individual. My mom also works out a lot and eats really well. She is 70 and very healthily. I really like the stories of the old people who had their teeth remove led and lived to be late 80’s 90’s. We know life expectancies are going down and this could be the key to people being healthily and disease free. Great video! Now I want to know how to find these doctors as I’m a teeth clencher and have cracked over 3 teeth. 😢

Hi. I have several health conditions I’ve accumulated over the last 8 years. I am a 32(f) and the state of my deteriorating health requires multiple specialty care including neurology, cardiology, endocrinology, dermatology and allergy immunology. All my life though I’ve had bad teeth. It’s genetic. Until recently, I never thought to connect my oral issues to my systemic ones. I always looked everywhere else for an explanation for my failing health. I’ve done almost every test possible too. The answer was clearly in front of my face this whole time. Literally. I have cavities, periodontal disease and one root canal I had done in 2015 that I have chosen to have pulled in a few weeks. It’s been bothering me for a while and a lot of my symptoms worsened after I got it. I think it’s time to take it out and get a deep cleaning of my gums to see if the inflammation in my body reduces as a result and I would like to see if any of my chronic symptoms indirectly improve as well. For more context I have had Thyroid Lymphoma, and Primary Hyperparathyroidism. I also have Secondary Hypoparathyroidism now, Hashimoto’s Disease, Celiac Disease, Eczema, High Blood Pressure, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, PTSD and Pseudotumor Cerebri. I am very pale, overweight and have water retention and swelling of my extremities. I have done everything in my power to make a positive impact on my health from implementing strict diets and lifestyle changes as well as other therapies. Nothing has made a difference, but I still have to remain on my strict diet because I have significant allergic reactions to most foods, liquids and VOCS. I only drink water and I have been on this diet for over a year. I miss indulging every once in a while or being able to go to a restaurant with friends and family. I can only eat at home because I have to be concerned about cross contamination due to my recently activated Mast Cell disorder. After discovering root canals have the potential to be toxic, I now wonder if mine might be contributing to my failing health or at best making it worse faster? I honestly just want to be able to drink coffee again and do daily exercises. Right now, I am so incredibly tired all the time, I only have enough energy to fight whatever war is happening inside my body. I’ve had my thyroid, parathyroids and a tumor removed in 2018. In a few weeks, I’ll have 3 more teeth taken out including my root canal tooth and I can’t wait to find out if my teeth really were the root cause or not. I’ll update this comment once I know.

My dentist is not a biological dentist but he is an open minded dentist when I brought up this subject. He removed two root canals on my upper pre molars. I am now concerned that he just removed the root canals without understanding the need to cleanup the socket very well from the prior root canals. I had knee pain for many years and never linked that up to my root canal until few months ago. Since I removed my root canal my knee pain have gone completely. I am glad I made the decision but I am now fear up the ‘stuck’ bacteria from previous root canal. 🥴 It was a straight removal root canal but nothing extra like I read from biological dentists in the West.

Twenty years ago had a root canal on a back tooth that ended up landing me in the hospital on IV antibiotic within a few months of the crown being placed on that tooth. To complicate matters, the IV antibiotic caused C. Diff. That tooth ended up being pulled, but I had pain across the affected side of my face for about 9 years. I saw a multitude of dentists, all of whom told me they had no idea why I was having this pain!! Absolute nightmare!! Now, several weeks ago I experienced some tenderness between two molars and went to my dentist for evaluation.. She did her regular 2D X-ray and said she couldn't see anything but sent me to an endodontist. The endo's 3D Scan showed abscess of two teeth and her recommending root canals. I go for cleanings every 3-4 months and have regular exams and X-rays for evaluation. I've always taken good care of my teeth. I have never neglected my dental health. Why is it the regular dentist isn't offering 3D Scan - whereby allowing people to know when they have a potential problem brewing? This makes NO sense to me. Nevertheless, I will be having those two teeth extracted and a bridge placed. I'm devastated to be losing these teeth, but will absolutely never subject myself to another root canal procedure.

I wish I had seen this a few weeks ago. My dentist told me I needed a root canal on a tooth and I was not having any pain. He wanted to have it looked at prior to putting on a crown. He’s sent me to an endodontrist who said the tooth was calcified and there was infection and needed a root canal so I had it done. I then had the crown put on but I now have pain in that tooth. So I paid for the root canal and the crown and will probably now have to have the tooth pulled. Thousands of dollars and it made the problem worse.

I had couple of root canals done in the past that were not done properly and I had big infection there. I decided to have the root canal re done by a proper dentist and the other dentist re did the root canals and after that I felt so much better, my energy returned and did not feel pain anymore. I am glad I didn't have the tooth taken out when they could have been saved. So my advice is to have your root canals re done by a dentist who is good at doing them and don't just take your tooth out. It sucks to be without a tooth.

How many root canals do you have? I now have 3. My dentist is suggesting another 2 due to abscess. It’s from old fillings done poorly in a third world country when I was a child. Can’t do anything about that. My dentist wants to do the procedure but I’m doubting. I’m thinking about going to a Endodontist instead because I’m not sure if he’s well trained. But he’s my dentist so will it offend him? Help. Any suggestion?

Great information! I’m actually dealing with a root canal gone bad right now. Had the RC about 3 years ago last September all of a sudden my face became hurt & in a few days me right side was swollen. Got it checked out & sure enough infection with the RC. They “cleaned” it all out now should be better. During this same time period I’ve also had terrible knee/elbow pain. I’m 55 & have been into fitness my entire life. Of course all I hear is it’s your age, you work out too much…… Just putting it all together I truly feel it’s all related. I kept thinking for the 6 months I’ve never felt so awful. The crazy think is everything is on the same side as my RC. Omg you are talking about the ringing in the ladies ear. I have that as well, all on my right side. I’ll be looking for a holistic dentist in my area. Thank you!

Had an echo in my ear as well. 3 days later bottom right of jaw is swollen like The Godfather . I knew something was wrong since I had the procedure 6-7 months ago . This tooth is probably coming out . Currently in clindamucin antibiotic but serupiodly thinking of going to er and having a specialist just remover the freaking it’s been so troublesome for 5 years now . It all started with a cavity filling that fell out right before Covid . The similarities tho , just spot on . I read 90% are successful mine is a not successful and seems the smart thing is to rid the tooth .

Thanks so much to both for this wonderful presentation! Sadly,, there are people like the man with chronic fatigue who are still stuck in their beds today and have become financially devastated-enough to be dependent on the gov’t insurance program. Even if someone ends up on Medicaid (a gov’t insurance in the US) functional medicine and bio dentists are inaccessible..they won’t take this insurance because it doesn’t pay them enough and/or this insurance won’t cover certain things..especially a second opinion. What a trap! I hope some of these dentists and former patients can consider advocating for bio dentistry for those less fortunate…Hopefully too others will stop blaming these people for the lack of education about their bodies or limited resources for better health support and consider what it would be like to be in a similar position.

Dentistry does not and has never caused chronic fatigue syndrome. @@Bobbychildree Do you think that dental, gum, general mouth health issues can lead to heart issues? And what are your thoughts on amalgam mercury fillings?
@Bobbychildree
@Bobbychildree Жыл бұрын
@@frebrd78 I have some amalgam fillings in areas that would be pretty hostile to composite fillings, but I prefer composites in esthetic areas when possible. Both the mercury in amalgam and certain components of composites will leach toxins, but fortunately that is a very very slow process, so no real worry. As to heart disease - the answer is yes. If a person does not use dental floss and proper brushing on a daily basis, periodontal disease can develop. It starts as simple gingivitis (bleeding gums) but gradually progresses to infected ligaments around some teeth. That leads to periodontal pockets and exacerbation of the periodontal disease. At this point various pathogenic bacteria have in effect a super highway into the blood supply of the teeth and gums… a highway to the heart. If their are any even microscopic defects in the heart, colonies of pathogens can be established. Same goes for the circulatory system and so on. Fortunately for us, God gave us an immune system to fight all this bad stuff, but that system can be overwhelmed by sheer volume of pathogens and it can also be compromised by our sometimes poor diets. (Sugar harms our immune system, some drugs affect it, smoking harms it - I’m no expert on the immune system.) My answer is covering up your question, I hope I answered all of it. Some years ago I read “It’s All In Your Head” by Dr. Hal Huggins and was mortified that a dentist could tell so many outright lies for financial gain! These people make a LOT of money selling their snake oil, let me tell you! I’m 79 and able to ride my bicycle 50-60 miles and then enjoy the rest of the day. Silver fillings and root canals have certainly not affected my health.

I have been to 2 dentists, an endodontist, doctors, 3 specialists, had scans and procedures done including a gastroscope/colonoscopy because of digestion issues since the root canals and have found nothing. I suspected the root canals were the cause right from the beginning but dentist and endodontist both told me my health issues were not from my teeth. Tonight i wrote my symptoms on a forum and had many people respond back telling me its the tooth and recommended i watch the documentary The Root Cause. That led me here.. im so annoyed that the the powers that be are allowing this sort of treatment because it keeps people sick and having to go to the doctors to buy meds and keep them in the Medical machine supporting big pharma.. im getting my tooth pulled out. Your NHS dentist would have been delighted. Root canal treatment - RCT is technically very demanding and will go sideways if not done properly, takes time and costs the dentist’s money. You saved the dentist hassle literally at your own expense. A good RCT is better than an extraction - most certainly if it is a front tooth, because restoring a smile when teeth are missing is a nightmare and very costly for the patient. When so called biological dentists claim that mainstream dental schools do not teach the many links between oral health and general health then the alarm bells should go off like a thunder clap. Nothing could be further off the truth. For example Intensive care specialists have teamed up with dentists to improve oral care in patients who are sedated and are on long term life support. This is not to mention diabetes and gum disease…

After he said he finished he informed me that he broke the small tip close to my sinus. He said I would be fine....I got really sick so slowly, I was nursing my baby and he gave me no antibiotics. So I continued to get weak and very sick until I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, I was 35 years old. When I tried to tell the doctors that I had a long surgery root canal that I had to go back three times. I found out that he was trying to get out the piece he broke. So much trauma! No one was listening, I almost died, my lungs were filled with liquid and my heart was double the size. Long story but just to let you know in the end I did not die ( wrong diagnosis) it was a bacteria that attached my body. Horrible horrible the doctor was way off course.

Rewinding back when I originally got the root canal, I should have instead taken 3-6 months to go hard on the flossing BETWEEN GUMS, oil pulling, brushing with hydroxyapatite toothpaste (alternative to fluoride that helps remineralize teeth), tongue scraping, and changing my diet before getting it ( I was 17 so didn't know better). Anyways, turns out YOU CAN HEAL CAVITIES. No one talks about this. Hopefully this helps someone keep their tooth.

He also talked me into removing my crowns so he could scrape and remove any cavitations. I was young and ill at the time. I did not understand that he would not be able to just put back on the same crowns. So now my mouth is totally messed up because I was left with quite a few toothless areas. A good crown costs $3000 . I tried to find someone in 2004 who would do implants for me but nobody would take me as a patient. Now I am 70 with a terrible smile which embarrasses me to no end. If you are going to do any dental work make sure to ask lots of questions and have a family member with you so you ask all the right questions. Oil pulling with either sesame seed or coconut oil is good too but wheatgrass is number 1, unless you need to draw out toxins for an infection/ issue; adding clove oil and supplementing coq10, zinc glycinate, copper bisglycinate, vitamin d3 and k2 with magnesium too. Whilst our teeth are our circuit breakers if a root canal is suggested just have it removed to save having toxic poison continuously dripping into the stomach 24/7 causing havoc with the immune system leading to chronic illness and worse. Keep smiling everyone…

What if it's the front tooth. I have to do a root Canal on my front tooth because there is cavity there but I have no pain there. Also I already have 3 root canals on my front teeth

@ love love vitamin k2 and wheatgrass will heal cavities. Personally I would not have a root canal whether it was a front tooth or not as root canals are a ticking time bomb. It’s well known that root canals cause havoc to our immune system and are a major contributing factor to cancer, auto immune disease and more; so removing the three you already have should be your top priority. Here is a link to Dr John Whitcomb re the benefits of vitamin K2 and in particular healing cavities . kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIG6dH2urq10nZY

I had an upper molar tooth extracted instead of getting referral to a specialist for re-treatment of root canal and now I regret it... I was having some pain in tooth/jaw, without any visible symptoms of infection (lesions, abscess etc)- maybe early stage, one of the canals was potentially missed. The tooth was salvageable and root canal wouldn’t have been as traumatic of an experience as the extraction was… However, the dentist didn’t discuss pros and cons of either option, maybe he saw $$ when I mentioned I’d like to replace it with an implant… I will never know if the re-treatment would’ve worked, and won’t be able to say at least I tried. So don’t rush into decisions and choose wisely. It isn’t always best to remove root canal treated tooth just because of potential risks. ☹️

I had 2 root canals done when I was 15, and it ruined my life. I had them removed at age 57, and I finally feel normal.

I'm, I think a case study. I had bridge for about 50 years with which I did not have any problems. The dentist finally talked me into replacing the bridge, especially that tooth #4 next to missing #3 tooth had small "leak" as shown on x-ray. The bridge was replaced and about 3 weeks after replacement, on 6/18/21 I first felt discomfort and then pain of tooth #2. My face became swollen so I went to Urgent care for antibiotic. As soon as I started taking antibiotic, the #2 tooth pain disappeared but it took over 1 week for my face swelling to disappear. Then to my total surprise on 6/30/21 (which was about 5 weeks after bridge replacement) I had atrial flutter and ended up in Emergency. That was my very first cardiovascular event in my life. I was put on monitors and doctors used saline flushing and medicine and afterwards my ECG became normal again and I was sent home by the end of the day. Doctor told me that I was lucky and that I came to Emergency within hours of feeling heart racing (blood pressure 114/80/167). My follow-up with Cardiologist was on 7/6/21 and at that time cardiologist told me about ablation (inserting electrodes into heart to avoid atrial flutter in the future. I thought it was a very drastic solution. I met with electrophysiologist on 7/13 and at that time he again raised issue of doing ablation. So I got onto youtube and start searching for terms such as atrial flutter and ablation. That is how I ended up watching this video. I'm planning to call dr. Rashtian and set up appointment. I'm scheduled to do RCT on tooth #4 and there is question whether to "save" tooth #2 by doing RTC or to pull it out. This interview was truly eye opening for me. Thank you.

@@universeofopulence Both cardiologist and electrophysiologist were trying to convince me to do ablation. I guess Medicare pays for the procedure. But that was my very first cardiovascular event. So after viewing videos on youtube. I told "No - no ablation". Especially that comment on my echocardiogram was UNREMARKABLE. My follow-up visit is scheduled in 6 months and I hope I do not have to see cardiologist (or emergency room) before. BTW - I also removed tooth that I believe was the reason for heart palpitations. That was quite a discovery for me, that tooth problems can result in cardiovascular issues.

BTW - medical care in United States is nor only very expensive (number one reason for going bankrupt, but also even though we pay high prices, we do not have guarantees that the work will be done well. Also, I suspect that many Medicare doctors are using Medicare to do lots of procedures that are not necessary, but they are done because they are paid by Medicare so doctor can afford the top of the line Tesla. .

@@annawarner1078 excuse me is root cannel removal is something simple? I do have ectopic beats and palpitations straight after my root cannel. Now I am pregnant and I m having sharp pain in my tooth but I don't want to redo it again instead I want to pull it out. Is not not hurting or dangerous to pull it out? 😢

@@hudanoor2203 I had a local anesthesia. The procedure (tooth #4) took about 1.5 hours. But form this video I realized that this is not the best option - because when root canal is done, you do not feel anything, even if your tooth gets rotten. As I found out in June, there is a very close correlation between wellness of the teeth and cardiovascular system. I do not know if you have a dental insurance, but this botched bridge replacement (I did not have any problems with the old bridge for over 50 years), not only put me in an emergency but also costed me over $10 thousand, two Urgent Care visits for swollen face, and work is still not done. I have Delta HMO insurance, which does not pay really anything. For example I paid $3,300 for bridge replacement, I think insurance paid $200. But anyway - the bridge replacement which was supposed to cost me $3,300, already costed me the following: 1. original bridge replacement - $3,300 2. RCT evaluation (I was sent there after my face became swollen) - $225. RCT evaluation done by endodontist (surprise, surprise) came up that both teeth @2 and @4 have to have RCT done. RCT tooth #2 - $1,760. 3. RCT on tooth #2 was not completed because as endodontist told me the root was curved and he could not complete RCT so tooth have to be removed (despite 3D imaging done beforehand). In addition while assuring me that he can do RCT without removing just installed bridge, he broke bridge 4. I was sent to another endodontist - another $210 for 3D imaging and $1,750 for #4 RCT. 5. Evaluation for extraction of @2 tooth - #150. Extraction of tooth @2 and shaving of leftover bridge $1,584 6. Now I do not have teeth #2 and #3, Implant cannot be done because my gums have to recover from infection and #2 extraction. So to-date I paid close to $9,000(in additional to emergency visit for Atrial Flutter, visit with Cardiologists, visit with electrophysiologist, echocardiogram of the heart, 4 ECG's, two Urgent care visits and referral for ablation). That price does not include implants. I call it a robbery!
