It's sad how much hate the Scadutree Avatar gets. If any dlc boss deserves to be hated it's the NPC bosses. Anyway, great video. your insight is much appreciated.

I completely agree on a lot of these points and I've been shocked by some of the criticisms of the DLC. I was thinking about making a video on this topic as well but you've beaten me to it. I see some people complaining that some bosses are taking 15-20 attempts to defeat. Rookie numbers. Whatever happened to 'prepare to die'? When I first played Dark Souls, Manus took me a full weekend to defeat. These games have always been about dying over and over again until you figure a boss out. That's the gameplay loop and it always has been. I think the problem is not that the games are becoming too difficult but that we're losing our attention span. It's an issue of patience.

issue is also that is it way to easy to gives others all the dirty work.. you can summon everywhere and spirit ashes too.. players would know some fundamentals if they would have to try a few times on a boss before being able to summon somebody for help..

I Remember when at around the time of Ds3's post dlc release, I looked back at some comments and people were saying stuff like "oh one hour on a ds boss is NOTHING". And I remember chuckling and grinning in relative agreement. It's like that tough, ready to take on anything attitude just sort of vanished for a ton of players and now you get people saying stuff like"oh you shouldn't be forced to spend so much time learning a boss" and then advancing some of the craziest mental gymnastics and double standards I've ever seen to justify why ER bosses aren't worth learning. It literally sounds like those casual players picking up DS and saying it wasn't fun cause they don't like dying the community had to deal with back in the day. But now that same sentiment has reignited that same debate. Just with different people.

Gosh the first 3 minutes really summed up a lot of thoughts I had been sitting with after looking around the community for boss/"difficulty" reactions and you had a subscriber right there. Like I walked away from my first kill of Gaius thinking he was such a fun fight, another great Elden Ring mounted knight fight only to find but pure contempt for him and while it mainly boiled down to the charge (and how pre-change it put a skill check on people's summoning which was the real "issue") I've seen people call his entire moveset "bs" and "pure rng" like wot
@Vengeance_I_m
@Vengeance_I_m Ай бұрын
Basically people like to Facetank the bosses, not learn, clutch out victories with rng and then brag about the fact they beat the boss (although face trading with their insanely broken builds they copied from some guy in the internet on top of using mimic). No wonder people are clueless and then whine and cry that bosses are somehow unfair. Like Scadutree Avatar is one of the cleanest fights in all of Fromsoft, every move has clear telegraph, is intuitive and you can every attack. Such an enormous amount of ignorance from people really concerns me sometimes

imo that happened a lot in elden ring because it is so easy to summon phantoms or use spirit ashes. people can use them everywhere even on regular enemies without any downside.. those players never had to learn any boss, any enemy or level vigor because they never are in a situation of danger. others do all the dirty work. therefore the player himself lacks all types of fundamentals. because he never had to learn them. it never clicked for them and never will. and you can see the result of this in the dlc. once an enemy or boss is aggro'd towards the host its over in seconds because they cant play the game and dont even know how to dodge. It is in high contrast of the souls games being challenging, like its not at all if somebody can just steamroll through the game without ever worrying about how the game even works.. thats also why there is so much complaint about difficulty in the dlc. they simply expected another walk in the park
@Vengeance_I_m
@Vengeance_I_m Ай бұрын
@@junoglrr9119 Yeah. Imo Elden Ring is the best thing Fromsoft produced with some of the best bosses, but imo balancing is one of the biggest legit complaints that are true to the game. Like bosses are very hard, much harder than previous games, so it's unbalanced in terms of lower skilled players can't beat them unless they really try to learn them for long time, so they feel the need to watch the cheese guides and use broken stuff like mimic. So imo the spirit summons have been the bad idea on their part overall, because without them average gamers have very hard time beating bosses which require high skill, but with summons and other broken crap the game is so cheesable. That's why people are often confused where a lot of people think Elden Ring is the hardest game while others think it's the easiest

Yes but first time round I feel that every boss should give you the opportunity to beat them in a proper war first time. The issue is that Elden Ring bosses tend to have attacks that not only surprise you but one shot you as well. Messmer's ground spear attack for instance. How are you meant to know that the attack has a sudden follow up that can one shot you? There are no visual and audible (THIS is the problem with the entire game) cue to at least give you an inkling of something dangerous coming.

Really good vid with lots of great tips, subscribed right away. One thing you could have pointed out, that I think contributes to the perceived unfair difficulty of the DLC among a lot of players: The majority of attacks on pretty much all the bosses come out fast enough so that if you heal after being hit by a previous attack, you will immediately get hit again. The "insta-heal" is a very understandable reflex, especially for less experienced players, and one that actually worked fine on a lot of base game bosses, but in the DLC this will lead to you burning through your flasks quickly and having gained nothing. Solution is of course to stay on low health, dodge the next attack, then heal during your attack window instead of attacking. I actually found that, depending on the follow up attack, not every window that would let you get an attack in, is also large enough to get of a heal, which can feel very frustrating, since you can't always predict which attacks a boss can and can't do next. Would like to hear your thoughts on that. Keep up the great work!

And it turned out that a lot felt the same way which made me happy to see. "on my first couple of attempts of fighting the avatar I was so frustrated I went onto Reddit and check if anyone was as mad as I was. So many people do this after only a couple of attempts before even learning the boss, and it's really fucking annoying. Stop jumping to conclusions, stop trying to validate yourself, learn the damn boss before complaining. Most of the people you are validating your opinions with are people who made the exact same snap judgement. How can you possibly accurately judge a SOTE remembrance boss after only two attempts?

@@anonymousperson8903 Yep people make emotional statements and shit on the boss for none other reason than getting their ego hurt and not being able to face the reality that they simply suck at the boss/ didn't learn the boss good enough. That's why we have so many coping made up terms used left and right without any thought put into it, like "unfair", "undodgeable", "broken", "artifical difficulty". Elden Ring faces too much hate, even though majority of main bosses are great and you can consistently beat them with any build, at RL1 and weapon +0, the only difference is they're harder, more complex and require more skill, attention and patience from the player. Like imagine DS3 at this day and age of toxic gaming community. Bosses like Gael, Midir, Friede all received mixed reactions at release because they all were hard to learn and different from avergae Dark Souls easy/simplistic boss design. A lot of people called these unfair and overtuned, but now everyone suddenly loves them. My first time beating him I went ahead an co-oped with a friend which ended up taking maybe half and hour (and I am glad I did that and didn't end the DLC on a note of frustration). My next playthrough my entire goal was to beat him solo. I went with a quality build and didnt bother capping levels and tried out lots of weapons against different bosses (ironically I went back to the same weapon I used to coop him, guts gs with lionsclaw). It took me 2-3 hours with 3 or so near kills. I've killed him 4 times now solo (I've been more or less boss rushing on subsequent playthroughs - getting fragments and a few weapons or spells). My last run was a faith build and I killed him in under 10 tries, and most of those tries saw me die with boss health

Nah, a tonne of people complaining are fromsoft veterans. They started complaining in ds3, saying bs like pontiff is unfair because of his speed/combos, gundyr is unfair because he is too aggressive, friede is unfair because she is a bb boss in a ds game (this one is hilarious because she doesn't have any unreactable /untelegraphed attacks and I usually killed her with a ugs, even in phase 3 when she has hyperarmour) The only difference was that more joined them in Elden Ring. They complained about bosses in ds3 that required more mechanical skill than was expected, even compared to previous hard bosses like the Fume Knight or Manus. The DLC bosses and some of the base game bosses also require this higher level of mechanical skill, so they complain about it. Obviously not every boss is well designed and flawless, romina has dogshit hitboxes, gaius has one bad hitbox, metyr has an attack that is undodgeable with an AoW, waterfowl is super unintuitive, some of the delayed attacks like the watchdogs greatsword slam are far harder to react to than the well designed delayed attacks of mogh and midra etc, but when I saw people complaining that Rellana, Messmer, Putrescent Knight and Scadutree Avatar were unfair or BS I just knew they were the DS3 complainers who dislike the focus on mechanical skill and want bosses to focus only on dodging at the correct time and waiting until a short combo ends.

I really hope that in their next games (and more in line with how AC6 handled it, fatnasy or not) they focus a bit more on more natural timings for attacks instead of the constant switcheroo they play on our instincts and instead focus a LOT more on that variety of positionals the new bosses had sprinkles of. Now before I knew what was gonna happen in that godawful P2 of Radahn's bossfight, I immidiately took notice of his neat little conal aftershocks that happen after his main big 4 hit combo. The shockwave spawns in a 180 degree cone in front of him and a much narrower cone behind him to punish getting overly greedy with getting behind him, leaving 2 smaller cones near his flanks where you can position and punish while the aftershock is happening. Now that shit is real good and is why I was even more disappointed that the whole thing is just gone in P2 cause he now just does a 360 light AoE along with the shockwave.

i think people (mainly ds1 vets) consider elden ring to be too hard because all of the past soulsborne titles have been so lax in retrospect, like a player who started with something like bloodborne first is going to cleave straight through the dark souls series, mainly ds1&3; my point being is that the better the players get the harder the games need to be, and these souls veterans consider elden ring to be simply unfair and unfun because the learning curve wasn’t nearly as short as in the older titles

I think Messmer is possible the pinnacle of hard but fair and fun. He’s brutally hard but very learnable. His combo variations and extensions were surprisingly intuitive. He has small gaps in attacks of combos that allow for fast attacks but also well-defined openings that allow for heavy hitting attacks. One thing I really like is that he essentially has his own version of waterfowl dance except it’s intuitive to dodge and can be consistently punished. Really really good boss. Almost every complaint I've heard about the difficulty is the result of a failure to actually engage with the game. People just do not want to take the time to learn bosses. They have no insight or self-awareness about this. Whether they realize it or not, they basically expect to go in there with zero knowledge of movesets and facetank their way to a victory based entirely on their instincts and the strength of their build. When this fails, they blame the game. This isn't unique to Souls by a long shot, but it's especially apparent in this context.

I just get close to the end and then let it kill me basically. I will revive a boss in cheat engine in the rare case where I accidentally kill it. But mostly I use boss revivals only when I've already killed it for something else and am making a new video and I don't want to replay the entire game.

Also I have a question bro so when you’re practicing for your official recorded no hit runs you obviously win a bunch as practice but how do you do that? Like re download your save file so you can keep fighting the boss over and over or how does that work exactly?

Hey! I actually don't win until I get it totally right. I will get 90% of the way to beating it but if I've gotten hit at any point before that, I just let the boss kill me once I get around 10% left in an effort to avoid accidentally killing them. Sometimes if I mess up and do kill the boss by accident, I'll have to revive it with cheat engine (a mod that, among other things, allows you to revive or deactivate bosses, only available for PC users).

I thought Scadu Avatar was regarded among the easiest bosses of the DLC, because of his low health. This would make it specifically easy for players just trading damage in a somewhat adequate way.

@@theholypopechodeii4367 Yeah this boss is pretty straight forward and basically has negative fire resistance and a HUGE weak spot. By far the easiest flight in the DLC...

I thought this is like guide to each bosses and their "unique" mechanics, didn't expect it to be 17:31 mins of git gud talk. Anyways it's still a good mindset to share for people who's tryna get into the souls-like game. But for me personally I always choose to playthru/beat the game with just my knowledge and instinct alone expecially for my 1st playthru since that experience only come once in every game I play. And honestly many bosses in the DLC do really felt cheap whenever I 1st fought them as it's going back to the Malenia's Waterfowl dance all over again with the game tries to throw you to atleast dies to a certain cheap attacks multiple times to tests out which method/way to dodge enemy attack and in the DLC many bosses have frametraps/sure-hit attack and whenever i get hit by it the 1st time it doesn't feels good and it sours the experience of facing up against a hyped up boss the 1st time. I think I've written too much but honestly I do feel lke there's atleast 1-2 things to nitpick from every major bosses in the DLC as their so close from being a perfect boss design.
