Great video! And to answer your question, yes I am! Most likely during next year I will retire to Saraburi where my girlfriend lives, a nice city with almost no other farangs around! BUT, we have a plan in the future to move to Hua Hin, a place we really love, we've been there many times so we will see where life takes us in the coming years!

@@RetiringToAsia on investing, I've done it in property that brings me a monthly rental income exceeding what I require to live. On moving to Thailand I will also be keeping my current home that can also be rented out if I want. Property gives me the income I require for a freedom life, yet also increases in value as time passes. Also the possibility of cashing in at any time, should the need arise, or a nestegg to pass on to children. I know nothing about other investments, stocks, shares etc & so I've stuck with what's worked for me.

I'm ready in all ways, done the planning, finances in order etc etc...only I've two very old dogs that I'm fully responsible for & so I'm seeing out their old ages before the move. It's the right thing to do, regardless how ready & at times desperate I am to move. Basically I took them on as pups & I've give them a good life, which doesn't stop until they part. I have to do what I have to do. Oh, bringing them at their ages would put them through too much suffering, with the flight process & heat when there. Thanks for sharing your video.

Thanks for your kind comments all. On starting my planing around 5 years ago, I didn't expect them to still be around now. I has planned to be ready around 2years ago, yet with both my dogs being fit & healthy (as they still are miraculously) they seem to be defying old age in the best way they can. My heart will be totally shattered when the times come & I'm absolutely dreading it, they're amazing dogs, always have been. I'm praying that I will have the strength to pull through their loss & that my move to Thailand will help in that...a new chapter in life, a new beginning. Until then I'm staying with the ones I love, my two best friends 💓

My hobby is a daily trip to the gym and watching YT videos to help me decide on my next move! My plan is to sell everything; house, car, misc and retire to Thailand on a retirement visa for at least a year. I’m currently 68 and in good health. I hope to bank a considerable profit in my house from the last couple years and will thrive on my $2800 in SS and watch my dividends grow. If the housing market drops back down to 4-5% rates, maybe I’ll buy again. As to dividend investing; I have “UTG” in my portfolio, which pays a nice monthly income. I also have several growth stocks that pay quarterly dividends. Cheers!

I'm a new subscriber and really appreciate the helpful info in this video. I have been watching a LOT of Thailand content over the last 3 or so years. I am a boardgamer, so finding a place with access to game shops or cafes or gaming groups has been a priority. I really like Bang Saray, from what i have seen in a lot of videos, but I am afraid it might be too far from the game shops and group i know is in the Jomtien/Pattaya area. I'll likely have to find another hobby to help fill my time. Maybe I'll get back into golf:) I look forward to more of your videos!

I’m sure you’ve heard this all before, but be careful about concentration risk with any individual stock picks. A lot of people also have a bias toward dividend investing in retirement because psychologically it feels better to get dividend income rather than selling shares. However, if the shares of a non-dividend paying alternative appreciate faster than the dividend you’re getting, you would actually be better off in the non-dividend focused option. IMO, always look at “total returns,” taking into consideration expected dividends and price appreciation when evaluating an investment. Anyway, I’m glad to hear life continues to go well. Hopefully you find a new groove in the new location and it doesn’t remain too quiet/lonely for long.

I appreciate your honesty, a lot of budget videos are very vague on how much money they actually have coming in. I guess I'm lucky to have a good pension because I sucked at investing in the stock market. I played in it for about a year, broke even then pulled everything out and put it in a high yield savings account then saved the interest to a health savings account. I think I would be a little freaked out to only have a few thousand dollars coming in. I currently live in the PI and spend on average 2K USD per month for 2 with no rent payment. I/we plan to move to Thailand because I believe it is cheaper there with a lot higher quality of living. Willie Bacolod city Philippines

Your math forgot to subtract taxes from your gross income. When you start taking withdrawals from your IRA, those withdrawals will be taxed as ordinary income. So you need to keep that in mind as well. You also left out a significant expense for most which is Health Insurance. I looked at my health insurance and projected annual premiums over the next 20 years. I found that while my premium now would be about 4,000/month, if I set aside 6,000/month starting now, that extra savings will be there in future years when the premium would be more than 6,000.month
@RetiringToAsia

My hobby is travel. I think KZbin is an addiction at this point😂. I retired January 1 and spent the first four months of retirement traveling around SE Asia. I am planning get an LTR visa January next year. I am hoping you can help me with a question. I understand that I will need to get the visa within 30 days of arriving in Thailand (plan is for Jan 1/25) and that at that time I will need to produce a lease. I only plan to spend January through June in Thailand and to travel the remainder of the year so I don’t want to pay a lot of rent for the six months I’m not there and I’d prefer to spend a few months traveling around Thailand trying to decide where I want to commit to a lease. So, I’m thinking about getting a year lease somewhere REALLY cheap shortly after arriving so I have a lease to produce and then take my time to find a place to rent through June 2025 and for 2026. I don’t want the cheap place to be a dump. I will still use it as a base and to store items so would like A/C. Does that make sense to you or do you have any other suggestions? I’m not on a tight budget but I’d rather be spending my hard earned money on something I’m going to enjoy rather than a lease for the sake of proving residency. I do need to maintain a residence there year round even if I am not going to be there. (It’s a tax thing.). Any advise would be appreciated.

With your monthly living budget of less than $1,000 usd, you only need to invest in dividends that generate enough to pay for living expenses and put the rest in growth stocks amd ETFs. Also, enough dividends that can offset standard deductions for singles so you owe a big fat zero in taxes.

I leave on Aug 1st to BKK. Plan on going to Pattaya and I'm thinking at the last minute not to sign a lease for 6/12 months but to hotel stay cheap so I can visit all the sites. Not set up a home base but be free to explore for a couple of months before I land in one place for a longer/permanent residence. I know I would loose money but is that the right way based off your experience?

You could always go with a short-term lease. You might get a little more space and save some money over hotels. The "right way" is the way you decide you want to go.

I wouldn’t move out of Jomtien to Bang Saray especially to save 5000 B a month ,facilities aren’t that good out there and so quite, you will loose that money by the inconvenience incurred . I live in View Talay Jomtien ,everything very convenient life easy . I spend about 75,000B a month super life ,Jomtien great place to stay,I will never move.

I wanted to retire in Thailand in 2 or 3 year’s time, the new Thai tax has put me off, plus when I looked into health insurance 4600 baht per month sounds reasonable, but as you get older your insurance will increase, roughly if your still around in your eighties, your insurance goes up drastically to roughly 20,000 baht per month, have you looked into this..? If so what are your plans, thanks

geez I need to find something like that.. Can you spell the name of that place?? And why did you move away from Jomtien? Was it because of noise? I don't want to live anywhere with lots of noise..

I live in Bang Saray. I lived on the south end of Jomtien Beach so it was very quiet. I talked about moving and why in a previous video.

I am wondering how you pay taxes in the US? I am assuming that as you with draw money from your IRA/401K or sell a profitable investment in your brokerage account you generate taxable income and need to file with the IRS. Where are you receiving your mail or do you do all on-line. Are you using an Thai based account to file or are you dealing with one back in the US via on-line or flying back?

I have been e-filing my taxes for years. I can't touch my IRA yet because of my age. My tax bracket will drop as my income drops, so my tax burden shouldnt be much. I'll be c overing any tax due from cash savings for now.

Is air quality better in Bang Sarah than in Jomtien? I came to Jomtien a week ago and I have not stopped coughing! Something in the air here is very irritating to my nose and windpipe. With humidity and cloud cover, smog may be a problem here! I am asking whether moving to Hua Hin or Bang Saray is a solution.
