Type 1 single barrel, replace the main jet in the carb and the difference is amazing. Just upping the jet size works better than dual port.

Hello Jeremy, good explanation thanks! Question, have you ever seen the pipes for the 1600 single ports blocked off inside? Mine only seems to be able to connect to the head of the exhaust manifold.
@MaineMachinist2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean the heat riser tubes cut off and blocked? If so, then yes, I have. That’s a big mistake. I have an entire video on clearing heat risers.

@@MaineMachinist yes, they are blocked off deliberately, that’s how I got it, they are not filled with soot. Should they 100% be connected to the muffler as mine doesn’t have the set up to connect to the muffler. Any chance I can email you with photos?
@MaineMachinist2 жыл бұрын
@@tomzouzoulas3169 yes, it HAS to be connected or the car will have hesitation problems. Don’t let people try to convince you that because you live in “a warm area” that you don’t need it. I have another video showing how someone with a welder can fabricate their own heat riser connections on aftermarket exhausts. If you have Facebook or Instagram, send me some pictures if you’d like

the dual ports ran better at highway speeds,,,the dog house oil cooler is a Big help to cooling 3 and 4 ,,the later 1600s had a small compression drop to help with knock

I always preferred the low end drivability of the single port, but I didn’t do a lot of highway driving

Can you explain to me what that little spout on the top of the manifold is??
@MaineMachinist2 жыл бұрын
If you mean the very small pipe near the top of the manifold where the carburetor bolts on, it’s a vacuum line.

Question-- what part numbers are interchangeable with a single port intake manifold for a 40 hp 1200 cc engine? We have a 113 129 701D intake manifold and it seems to be very year specific. (1963 to 1965). Our 64 beetle needs a replacement manifold and it's hard to find a D part. Suggestions?
@MaineMachinist Жыл бұрын
I don’t know enough of the part numbers, but have you tried other 40hp manifolds? I don’t see why they wouldn’t work. VW rarely ever made parts that weren’t backwards compatible with previous years. I would think any 40hp manifold would be a direct fit.

I have a friend with a 71 super beetle with the factory 1300cc single port engine. Can dual port heads (with a dual port intake manifold) be bolted directly to the 1300cc engine?
@MaineMachinist7 ай бұрын
If the dual port heads are also 1300, yes they can.
@jschrauwen7 ай бұрын
@MaineMachinist ahhh, ok, thank you sir. I thought all 1300cc were single port heads. What year 1300's used dual port heads? Not a common accurance is it?
