Such good advice!! :) I once got a job as a waitress in a very expensive hotel in New Zealand just because I included that I liked nature and going on hikes in my CV. They hired me instead of other applicants because the hotel was very remote and surrounded by nature without any civilization for miles and you really needed to love nature to be able to have fun and go on hikes or just enjoy nature when not working. :)

I just drafted my first update and I think it's so much better than it used to be! I need to do some work on the formatting because it's a tiny bit over one page, and then I think I'll send it to the careers team at my uni to look it over because I don't know if I've gone into too much detail. I realised you don't have a short introduction about yourself, and I thought I needed that until now, and I'm so glad to have cut that out lmao

Years ago, I was trying to get my first job (a difficult thing to do without experience) so I visited a careers advisor for help with my CV. They decided to make me a whole new CV which involved misspelling my name, creating a word bank at the top of the CV with key words to describe me (my favourite was “good Manor”, I didn’t even know I owned a manor let alone a good one), and made up work experience that anyone who hired me on the back of would realise was a load of crap very quickly. I really hope the people working in that careers advisor office watch this video, they could really learn a few things about creating effective CVs.

Hey i'm a graduate in graphic design and this tipp might be not too important but one typographic rule is to never end a text block with just one word in a line because that disturbs the read flow. Always try to end with three or more words in a line to make it easier to read. just some lame formating fact but whatever :D love your videos you do a great job!

Please recent grads, do not add your GPA to your resume unless it’s a requirement and/or you have 3.4 GPA or above. No 2.8 at all. It’s not something to advertise to employers. ✌🏾💖

PaigeY, I'll be so greateful if you could make a 'Reasons for applying' guide towards Cambridge, and how different it is from a traditional Statement of Purpose/Interest. I'm applying for next year's M.Phil in Archaeological Science at Cambridge. Thank you for the support & inspiration.

Uk curricula's structure is similar to the Italian one. I just have one question, where can I fit my language skills? Considering that I can speak Italian and English fluently, but also French and German at a good level (B1-B2 I'd say)
@Lyra94forever4 жыл бұрын
As a Project Manager (translation/media and localisation field) I would say put them in the first section of your CV if you are looking for a position in my field. Otherwise, you can put it at the end of your CV (for other job types/different fields of work for which knowing a language can help but it is not the most important skill). Also, the CV structure is not that similar to the Italian one, but most CVs will always be similar as they are CVs. Finally, Paige just gave you some ideas, but you can customise your CV in a way that fits your needs/the position you are applying for. I am Italian, by the way :)

Do you only send the CV, when you apply for an intership in the UK? Or do you also send a text, where you make clear, why you want to do that internship and why you think that you might be the right person? (I´m not from the UK but applying right know and it´s different in Germany :) )

Can you do more about finding internships? Even a point in the right direction
@PaigeY4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the type of internship you’re going for! e.g. large companies often have big internship schemes with application portals on their websites, while research institutions usually just take speculative emails and won’t advertise the internships. A quick google is your best starting point, find out the norm for the sector you’re looking at and go from there. Platforms like Bright Network are also often helpful.

Very nice CV, even if I find it a bit dispersive (so white, does not encourage reading). I usually try to write all the information on one page but if u have 2 is still good! Usually I don’t just enter name, address etc but also Skype contact, driving license (if I have one), Linkedin address and personal website if it's present and date of birth. Work experiences should go before school, it would be good to include also the languages spoken. I recommend the site "Canva" to see some really wonderful CV! Good job, your CV is well done tho!
