Even though this is hardly Pollards' best lineup; they STILL render Pavement , and most any band of this il;k in that era- impotent.

You are correct sir.

I love both bands so I'm finding it genuinely hard to comment either way here. I love pavement. But I'll agree, most any other band anyway.

This is basically the lineup (Mitchell, Sprout, Fennell, often with Demos) with which Bob created his greatest GBV songs. The reason why anyone knows them, frankly, goes back to the run of albums from Propeller through Under the Bushes. That was the "breakthrough" period when they released most of their now classic songs. Yes, there was great songwriting and albums afterwards, but not as consistently, weirdly, or creatively as during this period. Later lineups had better chops, but seemed stiffer and less sympathetic to Bob's vision--not to mention the loss of Tobin's songs and sweet vocal harmonies. Like many a bandleader and songwriter, Bob benefited from having a second/foil who was as talented as Sprout.

@@christopher9152 i agree with u almost entirely. i would say this rings true up until the current lineup began. in what? 2018? this current lineup is technically Bob’s best lineup to this day. all things considered
