[Stereo feed] Great performance on USTV. This is the first of 2 segments on that night's appearance. This would be a medley, and a grand one, at that.

i love how during motor away the one guitarist doesnt even play anything until halfway through the song so that when the feedback comes howling in and he hammers that chord it sounds so fucking massive.

After watching this video countless times over the years, I’ve decided one of the great moments in rock history is when Mitch Mitchell walks back to light a cig between songs before his unleashing. THAT’S GBV.

i bumped into him at a show in Toronto...a big show and Mitch was walking in the front door carrying his own amp through the crowd! i said hello, he set the amp down and chatted up a bit. nice guy...hes got the rockstar moves but thats part of the GBV thing...Sprout looks like a polar opposite. i was lucky to see them around this time OPENING for Urge Overkill. when they headlined in Toronto...man, 3 hours is too much GBV (or anyone). also remember being so excited they were gonna be on the tube...before jon stewart became don lemon or something.

GBV was going to hang it up before Bee Thousand...so theyre at their peak here, but still relatively "not a talk show band"....stewart also had Blues Explosion on around this time or a year later...Stewart must have dug some Matador bands...or his music director. Best lineup here, too. Before the GBV "bro cult" formed.

@DaveAnchovies3 жыл бұрын
are you kidding? unless Julian was trying to replicate a drunk middle aged dude...who was obsessed by the Who, he didnt need to borrow anything with those dashing good looks. Bob was still an elementary teacher and the band had considered hanging it up before the micro-indie that released the album before this. Couldnt believe they were on tv...finally noticed at their 10th lp!!! matador picked em up, probably with help from Dayton native Kim Deal. This was the first album they used a studio to record in....

Thank you so much for sharing! I remember this like it was yesterday. I had picked up "Bee Thousand" and the "Vampire on Titus/Propeller" combo on a boxing day sale in '94 upon reading that Bob Mould was a huge fan. By the time this show aired, an acquaintance had made me a tape of the bootleg "Crying your knife away" and I was a full-blown fan and I didn't even know what the guys looked like -- I guess I thought some of the pictures in the Bee Thousand liner notes might be them only to discover that Bob Pollard was this Tom Berenger-looking guy! "Alien Lanes" hadn't yet come out so this was the first time we got to hear the new material. And later on, we would find out that the medley was not how the songs were sequenced in the album (startling since it sounded so good in this appearance). As I recall, the band played "My son cool" on the outro to the show and it sounded massive...I'd get to meet and hang with the band for a whole day later that year when they came to Toronto...great memories.
