I want to share this with you guys. It's really hard to put your thoughts aside while meditating. They come and swirl through your head like a storm or a hurricane. I've meditated before and while meditating with this video I made up this mental image (when Ajahn Brahm told us to open the knots pulling your thoughts) in my head that I built big blocks around my thoughts. I blocked them from every direction, so they would be still and not harrass me and my mind at the present moment. Every time my mind started swirling again I made the blocks stronger and bigger. At one point all my thoughts were so still I got this feeling that my mind actually ERASED so many excessive thoughts from my brains. That was one of the sweetest emotions I've ever had. It made me feel light as a feather, white as light. Making progress in meditating is really great.

+Laamalaan Wow. I stumbled across again to this video, and saw my comment from a year ago. Interesting to read and to remember where I was at that time! A year passes by so fast. I want to share now even more. I have continued the practice of meditation, and over time, it becomes more and more helpful, and an enormous enjoyment which affect the quality of your life, literally. I suggest to anyone who's tried meditation, to keep going. When I look back during the time of my comment, I wasn't able to quiet my mind. Therefore I had to create a visual image to stop thinking. Which was just another form of thinking, visual form. After a longer period of practice, you don't have to do this anymore. What I meant by that, when my mind erased excessive thoughts, is that I had a glimpse, a short one, but still, a glimpse of pure stillness. I didn't recognize it at that time, but I felt it, and that's why I was so stunned by it. By now, by practice, I have learned to get to the state of stillness, strong awareness, much much more easily. I don't anymore have to create visual images to get there, but I've learned new techniques that don't take basically any effort! After practice you can get rid of thoughts anywhere else, while walking, for example. Your awareness raises significantly. If you're interested in to feel peaceful and still within yourself, I'd highly recommend you to read or listen to Eckhart Tolles books. "The power of Now", and/or "A New Earth". Best wishes, and blessings to everyone.

+N Dot Yep consistency is key. And by now I've already realized that, even the quieting your mind is not the goal for where we should reach to. Because it causes straining, and straining causes frustration. It's not that we should "get somewhere" in meditation. That's not the point. The only point in meditation is, to be a watcher, to be aware of yourself, to be aware of your thoughts and your whole being. Nothing more than that. It of course evolves through time and you make progress. New things pop up in mind. It's great. And it makes you more focused. There was a story of a man, who wanted to learn spirituality. His master told him to go to a cave in the mountains, and sit there from noon to evening. The master told him that, don't think. You're not allowed to think while you're there. The man went up, and as you can imagine, he was not able to quiet his mind during the day. He went almost crazy because all of these irrelevant thoughts kept coming in his mind. In the evening, he went down back to his master and told about his struggle. "Very good", master said.

The next day, the man had to go for another day to sit in the cave. This day, master told him, that he's allowed to think aaanything he wants to. The man thought, "Well, that's easy, my mind is full of thoughts, shouldn't be a problem." He went up, and sat down, closed his eyes. He allowed every single thought to come up in his head. Slowly, he started noticing small gaps in between of his thoughts. "Oh no!", he thought. "I wasn't thinking!" The gaps become bigger and bigger, as he couldn't make up anything to think about. He tried to think about the cosmos and universal laws, but soon he found his mind quiet, totally blank. In the evening, he went back to the master and told about his failure. "Very good", the master said. The man was confused. He should've been thinking all day, but yet his mind was so quiet! Don't force it. :)

Great. Don't pay attention to content of single thought. Pay attention to the flow of thought, it will appear to be a River, then leave it alone coming back to your meditation

But why would he be giving talks and meditations if he did not want to help others? Including us in the West, he often talks on specific daily life problems.
