Guideline LPX Chrome fly rods are designed and built with a brand-new Guideline rod action. They have a ¾ deep load and power that kicks in earlier in the cast without sacrificing the speed in the rods. They have a lightness, stability and responsiveness that connect you with the cast in a totally new way. These fly rods are perfect tools for hunting large seatrout, salmon, or steelhead. LPX Chrome are premium rods stacked full of features, rarely seen at these prices.
The secret behind the distinct rod action is our C.A.P M4.0™ technology, an advanced carbon layup that creates a unique rod flex, that has it all. The action is best described as medium fast, progressive with fast recovery. The tip section has great stability for setting sharpen loops and the power to lift heavy sinking lines. During casting you easily get connected to the lower parts of the rod which delivers a remarkable kick/catapult effect in the stop, this lets you deliver long casts with hardly any power.
The unique side-stability in LPX Chrome make the fly line follow the rod extremely well when you swing and rotate the rod during the cast. Leading to more precise casting, higher line speed and cleaner loops. A truly new action that will set the standard for our future fly rods.

Leif, I never tire of your enthusiasm and abilities, every time you bring out a new rod range it just costs me lots of money. Looking forward to trying this new generation, I have rods from your NT8 and Elevation series, but the previous LPXe was my go to when needed.

Dear Leif, I like your presentations a lot, not only for the casting but also for your detailed explanations that are so useful. I am thinking of buying a new 9,9 feet LPX Chrome Single hander for salmon fishing. I already own a five piece, 10 feet 7wt LXI, which I think is a nice match for my "old" 8 wt Guideline 4cast line, especially for casting underhand. My 7wt Bullet Nymph, which sadly has been discountined, fits quite well, too. I like to fish with small to medium alutubes, hitch flies and bombers, often in windy conditions. Is the 8 wt, 9,9 feet still "soft" enough when playing 2,5 kg- grilse ? Will it be a nice match for the 8 WT 4 cast? Or is this a "canon" for bigger rivers and a little too much for my fishing? Thank you for a few hints, Emil

Hello Emil, The 9’9 #8 will probably be a little “beefy” for your 4Cast 8wt line. The rod takes a 21gr and even a 23 gram 3D Compact head very well when underhand Casting. It is also designed to manage larger fish. The 9’9 #7 Chrome would be a better choice for your preferences, but it feels like it would be a little bit like doubling up, as you already have a great 10’ #7 rod which fits your line and the type of fishing you describe. The Chrome rod fits right into that description too :-) Best regards, Leif Stävmo

Hi again, Leif, thank you for your prompt reply. That helps. Maybe I can have a cast or two in the spring, when your new rods are in the shops! Can't wait to cast them. Best regards, Emil

One of the best low weight two hand rods I have ever tried was a Guideline, but I couldn't afford it at the time. It would be interesting to hear, why you have the reel handle on the right (meaning "correct", as I have good reasons to advocate for, but gets "shot down" by everyone - not that I care, knowing my reasons win if you look objectively at things) side for right handed angler.

Hi Börge! I could do this simple and let you know that it simply was a matter of coincidence, as the first outfit I ever tried back in 1972 was rigged with a reel that was a “right-hand wind”. In fact in those days all reels were right hand wind. It took many years before people started requesting left hand wind on the reels and I think it has to do with the fact that more and more newcomers to Flyfishing has a history and background from spin-fishing with stationary spool spinning reels and as right handers they cast with the right hand and crank the handle with their left. For me, it has never been an option to switch to left hand as I have my right hand wind so deeply motorized in the back of my spine. Besides, I see a few other advantages with my set-up. 1. As I am right handed, I keep the rod close to my body on the right side of my body during the swing and the stripping in of my fly, the same applies for the Stillwater fishing. I find it very practical and comfortable to know the handle is turned away from the hip, offering a better rest of the reel against my body. 2. During casting, the reel is tilted slightly at an angle to the direction of the cast. If the handle would be on the left side, I’d definitely have more potential problems with loose flyline coils or shooting line being caught around the handle than I do when the handle is turned away from the lose line. 3. I have spent time reflecting on what happens when I get a hook up and have found that the change of hands holding the rod from right to left occurs totally by instinct and doesn’t offer any complications or negative effects. The process only takes a split second and is nothing I even register. This is the same for both single hand and double handed fishing. 4. I have roughly the same strength in both arms, so there is no argument for using the right arm during the fish fighting as it is stronger.. ( This is obviously different from person to person, though) Hope this answers your interesting question :-) Best regards, Leif

@@Guidelineflyfish Thank you for your detailed answer. I'm old - so I also remember those days. I used half my Konfirmation-money" in 1974 on a 8-9 foot fly rod of a kind and a Shakespear reel, line and all. But never learned how to cast (the pause - never figured out that the line had to stretch out) so I stood in the school yard and wore the line out on the asphalt - never caught a fish on that. Then I fell over two hand rods for the sea trout I had caught some of on spin and worms, and thought, that I could save time and money for spinners aso, by tieing flies instead - did I fool my self.. Later I had to modify a reel to right hand, because the ones I could afford didn't have it. I've always done it, as I saw in the old books, and there are - as you also talk about - many good reasons to have it that way. Besides the line not grabbing onto the handles, when you strip line (I'm old enough to have learned to make loops of reduced size, so they don't grab each other aso) whan the wind blows from the left, you get to retreive line with your right hand on the reel - the one you probably are most enduring with. (I once let out all my line and backing on a non large arbour reel - it took many minutes - 6 I believe - to reel it in) You also avoid the reel handle catching onto you clothes, if a big fish takes a suddon run - I've seen a guy loose a big fish by that happening on danish TV. So it's not just in theory. I have a very logic/scientific approach to things, and the pros and cons by far point towards away from your body. I'm so nerdy, that I always tie my knots witht the exact same tested number of turns, to rule out any avoidable losses.

We use several different strain rates in the LPX Series. Tip sections use slightly lower modulus with 30T and 36T being the standard and varying between models. For the remaining, major part of the rods we use 36 & 40T material. // GL-team
