Now, that intro 0:06 has to be one of the coolest fly cast intros ever! Must be the first "reversed-back-hand-air-here-you-go-junior" multi person spey cast! Hilarious. A true legend and son playing

Hi, is the 2020 LPXe 13' 8/9 too short for the 3D+ line?
@Guidelineflyfish
@Guidelineflyfish Жыл бұрын
Hi JG! Not at all, all our rods in the 12´9" to 15´9" lenght are good matches for the 3D+ range of lines. If you fish tight quarters with high banks or want really easy-casting lines you can opt for the 3D+ Compact lines. // Henrik GL

Hi, thanks for all the info here. What do you think of putting a 4d compact tip (of the right weight of course) on a regular 4d body to shorten the head a little? Say, a 9g 12' compact tip on a #8/9 regular 4d body instead of 15'.

Good question Jaquis! Adding a shorter tip to a longer body is a common technique used by some anglers to fine-tune their casting performance. In your case, adding a 12-foot 9-gram compact tip to a #8/9 4D body would indeed result in a shorter overall head length compared to using a 15-foot tip. The key factor to consider is how this change in length will affect your casting performance. A shorter head length will generally result in a quicker turnover and a more direct transfer of energy from the rod to the line. This can be beneficial in situations where you have limited space for casting behind you or make accurate, short-distance presentations. However, a shorter head length can also make it more difficult to achieve longer casting distances, as you'll have less line mass in the air to load the rod. So if you primarily fish larger rivers where longer casts are required, you may find that the shorter head length is not as effective. Ultimately, the best approach is to experiment with different line configurations and see what works best for your specific needs and casting style. If you have the opportunity, try casting your #8/9 4D body with both the 15-foot tip and the 12-foot compact tip and see which one gives you the best performance in the conditions you fish.

Just one more thing to consider with the shorter tip is that it may be a little more difficult to make it hold firmly in the water and produce enough “anchor resistance” during the acceleration phase of the forward stroke of the Spey cast, as the weight of the body pulls out a shorter tip more easily than a longer one. Tight lines:-)

@@Guidelineflyfish I think I’d better go for the whole 4D compact system. Thanks a lot. Really appreciate your help. 🤘🏼

Hi, You guys mentioned that with the 4d one can use a lighter rear part of the line if the rod demands that. What type of rod would demand that? f.ex. could I use a 9g tip (12') on a 14g body or would that be too unbalanced? And on the other hand, could I use a 7g tip on a 29g body?

Hi Ciao, I'm not sure I understand you question, but as a general guide we have color markings on the loops of both tips and bodies. If the body and tip have matching colours they work smoothly. As a roule of thumb a heavier body and lighter tip, will give you more punch/power and load the rod easier when casting. Do you have a particular rod you need help to choose the right combination for? /GL Team

What lenght tippet/leader would you recommend for the 4d Compact on a 9/10 DH 13.7 rod?
@Guidelineflyfish
@Guidelineflyfish 3 жыл бұрын
Well, that deponds on the density used and individual preferences. However, to give you some guidence I would recomend you a leader around 12-15 ft when using a floating body and tip. For the heaviest sinking bodies and tips you normaly shorten the leader down to 4-6 ft, in order to present your fly deeper in the water colum. As a rule of thumb, you shorten the leader by a foot or two, every time you change for a heavier sinking line. //Espen

Hei Mikal, jeg fisker selv på vestlandet og kan varmt anbefalle 4D Compact - det er min favoritt combo til de elvene (12,9 8/9 og 4D Compact:-). Skitt fiske og god sommer, Mvh Espen GL

Always was a fan of Guideline rods and lines, but now you‘re going one step to far, because it‘s not anymore cutomer friendly! Yes you create line systems for any conditions and rods, but it‘s simply ruins your customers on the way to find there set-ups. However you won‘t catch me with those confusing line systems, I‘m staying with m simple to use RTG Body with 4 different T-Tips (6, 10, 14 and 18) and some Tripple D first generation lines, that‘s it. And the commercial race of buying every year the newest rod model is nonsense too, the LPXe and GLoomis Roaring River Rods are stll hard to beat these days!

Hi! I am sorry to hear that you find it confusing with all our line systems and options. We will absolutely have this in mind for our future line projects. Glad to hear that you are still enjoy the LPXe! Tight lines!

@@Guidelineflyfish …. and not to forget, the RTG Skagit Multi-Tip kit, a very useful line, unfortunately not produced anymore😊 By the way, buying 4D products even in the biggest shop in my area near Stjördal are hard to find …. maybe better in Winter than during Salmon Season. However, I‘m also very engaged with Tackle industry, writing as a free angeling journalist independent about Fishing and Products and my job is listening well what ordinary people on the River banks, coast and lakes saying. I‘m today already wondering, whats coming next and which way line developing will take. Finally it should remain understandable and payable for all Flyfishers Tight-lines, Steve
