I am the Jason from the video thank you to Alan and Kimberley and Nancy. I just want to reiterate the absolute lovely influence you had on my youth, in making it more tolerable, and I’ll always be grateful for that ❤

Jason, Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your story. I teach high school English and I often hear similar painful stories through my students' writing. What a gift to me that you shared your story with all of us and that in some small way our show brought you solace and comfort. You seem confident, intelligent, handsome and thriving now. I know the stories we experience in our youth can often impact the trajectory of our lives for good. It sounds like you are doing exciting and creative things now. Thank you again for the heartfelt video and stopping by the Locher Room today. Much love to you. xoxo

Yes Jason it's okay to be different. And while I do not do tarot card stuff I was given a gift around 2008. And I am into stuff like the Dr jeffrey thompson healing cds such as the awakened mind system and gamma meditation cds which works with brainwave frequencies. I know for me soaps back then brought me comfort as I grew up in a broken home as my parents split when I was 5. And the way they fought was right out of the worst aspects of soaps. So for me even though I am straight watching the family dynamics of soaps and couples brought me some of what I never got in my own life. Whether it be guiding light atwt or aw or the ABC soaps. Also I am a music guy on the prog rock heavy metal side with some new wave thrown in like Depeche mode or pet shop boys along with my old school genesis iron maiden and judas priest. Also I had a horrible School experience growing up. And that's also where soaps helped me and brought me comfort too.

@@kimberleys7338 thank you for this kind message- I was not exaggerating in any way- those teen years (1990-1992 especially) were made more tolerable each day because I knew that by 3pm I’d be safely ensconced in Guiding Light for an hour. That’s not an overstatement at all. I’m so grateful now, because it did get better! Way better. With eternal gratitude, Jason

I really can’t say it better than Kimberley did. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your memory of that time, Jason. I was so moved, and so glad that Guiding Light was able to offer a refuge for you. That was a sweet old show and it meant so much to those of us lucky enough to be part of it. Take care, Jason, and thank you again.

@@DitalianCole yes I wish she could write guiding light again and it could be rebooted and remixed with some adjustments like for example Maureen is still dead but was killed by a drunk driver and Nadine was still alive married to buzz. Frank and Blake were together all along Roger died of Als. And finnaly got redemption with holly. Then Ross put holly back together but died elani died instead but Blake put frank back together and helped raise Marina just one of a thousand ideas I had that I think would make fans like us happy because Jerry very dorn is not with us and Niether is Micheal zaslow or bev McKinsey or marj dusay. And I think guiding light could use a fresh start.

This storyline with Nick, Mindy, Alexandra and Roger was riveting. All the actors brought their A game and knocked it out of the park...I remember being so upset when Kimberly Simms left the role of Mindy And it's to her credit that the recasts (Ann Hamilton and Barbara Crampton) never clicked.

I remember the show had difficulty figuring out how to write for Kimberly's Mindy... because her Mindy came in during the Will/Rusty story that started under Krista... and because of how she played Mindy, the story didn't make sense. Once that was finished... the show just kept trying to test her with other random characters like Daniel St John, Rick, even Neil Everest.. until she ended up randomly with Roger in a scene.. and boom.. story goldmine :)
@TheLocherRoom

I disagree. She was actually better with Rusty than the first Mindy, but the actor left the role or his character was written off, so that is why the Rusty/Mindy pairing ended. Same thing with Rick. Michael O'Leary and many of the '80s stars left in early 1991. I hated the Roger/Mindy storyline. I thought the pairing was gross. I could never watch their scenes. Story goldmine/pairing was Nick and Mindy. Yes, the Mindy/Roger affair led to awesome bonafide soap opera drama that I loved but I couldn't watch it. Liked the drama it produced but was glad when it was over.

I wish I had been able to watch this live. I got my college roommates hooked on GL via this story. We were juniors at this point and I had been hooked on GL since the Doug Marland days. I got some ribbing for my soap addiction, but the Alex/Roger/Mindy/Nick saga had four college bros riveted every day. A year later, during the Election Day episode, I vividly remember one of my roommates saying, “The commercial breaks are killing me!”

Dear Alan, Congratulations on your third anniversary. What an incredible an achievement! I can’t tell you how much these, your KZbin chats and interviews that you’ve had have meant to me. ATWT, and GL were two of my all-time favorite, soap operas. The characters, the stories really were so special to me. Much like Jason in the video I was a gay kid and didn’t have very many friends. I had a lot of bullying in school, and also my home life was not good. The soap operas were an opportunity for me to escape, and spend time with characters that I loved like family, and friends. This episode was just incredible. I remember the storyline like it was yesterday. Beverly, Kimberly, Michael they were just incredible in the storyline. This I believe this was one of the best storylines in GL history. It’s such a shame that Beverly left, and Kimberly left, and Vincent left and so there wasn’t any more continuation of the story. Can you imagine where the storyline could’ve gone? What if Mindy had had the child, Rogers child? Could you imagine the Spaulding mansion with Alex, Mindy, her child and Nick running around in it? What kind of juicy story would that have created ? I really have to thank Nancy for her fabulous writing skills as she clearly was a part of the golden age of GL . Thank-you so much for today’s episode that was just fantastic! I also wanted to thank you for not only bringing us back to ATWT and GL but also all of your other KZbin interviews with all the other people from all the other soaps that I also watched. It’s just so great to see all of them and hear the stories , how they got there and what it was like, and their memories of their costars. It’s fantastic, so thank you again. I wish you the best. Your interviews just always brighten my day, and bring back such great memories. ❤ Hope to meet you some day and thank-you in person. 🎉

Ok….watching this was incredible. I became addicted to Guiding Light in 1991 largely in part to Beverlee McKinseys incredible portrayal of Alexandra Spaulding. Kimberly Simms as Melinda Lewis was incredible as well. I was 14 in 1991 and this show just kind of took over my life because of all of the incredible actors and actresses on Guiding Light. They aren’t mentioned here but others were incredible as well - Maureen Garret as Holly, Sherry Stringfield as Blake, Peter Simon as Ed Bauer, the whole Jean Weatherall storyline, the actress that played Jean Weatherall was incredible. This show was just supreme back then. It was captivating with great acting and storylines. Very grateful that KZbin channels like this exist so it’s possible to revisit the past.

In the live chat I was just responding but was trying to keep up. Those days reminds me of how good the cast was and the importance of the charecter dynamics and how each relationship played a part in driving the show whether Ed or Maureen or Billy and Vanessa or Roger and Holly.

It is amazing and you really get to know Michael through his own words. I would like to pass it on to another fan if anyone is interested. Just comment and I will need a mailing address, but would be happy to ship it to someone. I think other fans should read his words and know what he endured. It is as heartfelt as it gets.

Sorry to comment again but happy 3rd aniversary, alan and for your continued success. And as always having a podcast where the actors writers and producers or guests can just be honest. And tell the truth without huge panels or giving an impression that it is staged. As that's part of the reason why a lot of these soaps we all loved are not on the air anymore. As they began to get to caught up in to much shock and sex and drama or looks without any depth or substance. Sure charecters can make mistakes or do bad things or even have flaws or edges. But doing so without depth or reason is just another junked up trash show and noise. Also last night I did a you tube search on harding Lemay and found a really good podcast interview he did in 2006. Where he talked about many of the things Nancy was saying yesterday. And even talked about Doug m. And Paul Rauch and Beverly McKinsey too. The only thing I did not like was the comments section where some users were trashing Doug m and the Snyders and his time as headwriter at atwt I am writing this comment and bringing up harding Lemay because I know many of the fans of your podcast would probably be interested in hearing this interview from him. And yes Doug m and harding Lemay might not be with us anymore. But we still are lucky to have such great writers like Nancy around and Stephen or Richard and Carolyn culliton and some others sure each might have their own style. But they sure know how to write good storylines that people still remember and like. Also the stuff bev McKinsey played with Mindy and nick she did as iris on Texas when a charecter I can't remember the name of was married to iris"s son Dennis years before Chris Bruno played Dennis on another world. Just thought I would share. Happy Sunday.

Sorry once again to need to add another comment but in that same interview harding Lemay did in 2006 he talked about when he was headwriter at aw in the 1970s and Paul Rauch was ep he had written a storyline which would have been the first gay storyline for not only daytime television but television in general. I think the charecters name was supposed to be Mike Randolph or something and Paul Rauch was fully on board with it. But NBC at the last minute pulled the plug on it and woujd not allow that storyline to go forward. And this was years before Doug m did the first gay charecter on atwt in 1988. I knew their was a reason I was bringing up that interview. And also because Micheal zaslow was coming up and the story when he got Als. Except in his case it was more the p and g side I think. And not the network. Sadly some things never change especially with what's going on in the world today and the disgusting hate going around in our political climate today. Which I don't even want to get into now this is where I wish these shows were around still back when they were good and did things that really touched people's hearts while teaching tolerance by doing things like having diverse casts or having charecters like a Hampton. On gl. Or the things soaps used to do. To spotlight things that are relevant in the world.
