Yo! I've been using a bag opener for many years now. A lot of people don't seem to know how it really works so I made this guide to help out! Get more out of your Silverwastes farming! See you in Tyria!

@@TheLazySage7 My only suggestion would be to write out a script for your videos and maybe do a little editing/multiple takes, so that it sounds more like a guide and less like you’re just talking to the viewers about the gameplay. Just my two cents though, keep up the good work!

Great video; very consice! On a side not, instead of constantly closing your inventory to stop the bags from opening, you can do the following: Open All > Deposit Materials > Salvage All > Repeat. When your inventory fills, there will be a popup that comes up with the overflowing gear, but you actually don't have to do anything with that. You can still click the Deposit Materials button, and after it's done depositing materials, it will auto add the overflow items and automatically close that dialog for you. This is how I open all bags and identify all my gear. However, if you mess up and accidentally deposit materials before you opening gear bags, your inventory will fill with no easy way to clear it.

Another method if you have an invisible bag, any invisible bag: Put your stack into the invisible bag, split using Alt+Click into a regular bag, open the splitted stack and safely salvage all.

Small tip: When you want to sell mats, refine them before you do so. Refined materials are a bit more expensive than the cost of the ingredients.

Also not always, so taking the 5 seconds it takes the TP to load both prizes is worth it in some cases. But most of the time refined is a bit more, yes.

@@silphone Also free spirit shards from the crafting xp and some easy levels if you do it on an alt.

Thank you for the video. Concerning closing the inventory to stop the unpacking, can you also close it with the shortcut key I? A small tip: You can deposit to and take out things from the bank by double clicking the item in the bank tab. It will even stack the items, when they are on both sides, I believe. It was painful to watch you drag those items. :D Pay attention that you don't double click in the inventory window though, if you have both windows open. It will "use" the item then...

Surely you are wasting a lot of gold here using the runecrafter's salvage o matic on low level greens, they no longer give green runes on salvage. 30 copper a salvage vs 3 with the copper fed tool.

Great tip! one question tho, what should i do wiht my spare bandit crests from Silverwastes? should i buy bags of stolen goods? or bags of sandy gear or what? are those bags good to open with a lvl 50 character as well??

@@federicoacosta6222 So I did some research, keys are obv. always the best use BUT if you have thousands of keys, and still have thousands of crests. the bag of sandy gear can deff worth it! If you open on a level 80, you can sell the UnID gear flat out for more then you spent for it. You can also ID them, hope to roll for a rare, and get ecto, to make even more. Or you can also open on a lower toon, and salvage for the mid range mats, and that will ALSO be worth it. So they do seem profitable, as long as you never EVER run out of keys.

I would imagine that this is only cost effective if you have a spare character slot? Otherwise you would need quite a bit of profit to offset the gem cost of a new slot.

there's already a lot of guides for that on KZbin. Silverwastes gives ok gold but can feel tedious. You can find a world boss train on the LFG for the core game if you've got a lot of the map unlocked, that can be fun and there's some mastery points and achievements in there too, there's a few smaller material farms as well with their own guides. Pretty much all of the good gold farms are not in the core game, if you do intend on getting the expansions then I recommend getting them before you invest a lot of time in grinding out large amounts of gold. The HoT Metas are pretty good, daily fractals, dragonfall, istan i think is still good, daily ley line anomaly, metas from the new Icebrood saga maps give good loot. If you're on F2P then my best advice would be to stick to just learning the game mechanics, explore, finish map completion, try some world bosses maybe try fractals and PvP, do all of the dungeons but grinding out gold isn't really worth your time even though some people might tell you that it is.

@@weaselmaster98 What this total legend says. Silverwastes is the best farm for "F2P" but I wouldn't worry about farming if you don't have the expansions. Silverwastes is all mount up move, with out a mount you will NOT get even 1/2 the amount of rewards.

there's no way to stop xp gain in gw2 right? like this slot is basically only for opening, can't do early content without leveling?

Correct. Your other earning mastery EXP or your earning leveling EXP. even at max you still gain exp that become spirit shards.

Yes, different types of salvage kits yield different percentages when you use them on materials. This topic could be an entirely different guide, but you can get the gist of it from the game's official wiki - wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage_kit I for one took a few years of playing to finally get the Copper Fed Salvage o'matic from the gemstore - now I don't need to carry loads of the cheap salvage kits for salvaging the low rarity equipments. It's not totally required, but is a good quality of life change if you're looking for ways to spend your gems.

BETTER. if you find yourself low on stones, or hate having to remember to make them, then silver fed is better. Basically Copper Fed is no question WORTH, silverfed is more convenience then gain.

@@TheLazySage7 Please do. It took me quite a while to fully grasp salvaging when I went in blind. When people start to craft, that is when they start to differentiate between the salvage kits. Most of the tips regarding salvaging are embedded in gold making videos, and it would be nice to have a separated, dedicated guide for this. Keep up the good work!

Even a better tip, is to instead of stopping the consume all, don’t deposit your mats right away but wait until your inventory is full then deposit, this frees up space and saves the hassle of opening and closing your inventory at the right timing

This is certainly an useful comment, but this works in bags that have materials. With bags that only have gear, if you wait for inventory to get full, a little window will pop up with the gear that doesnt fit in inventory, which will make you "lose time" in rearranging inventory and closing it .

I'm new to this game and I had no idea about this bag opening thing, thanks! One tip I can give you though perhaps? :D after you "salvage all masterwork" you can "use all" on the bag again, it will max out the slots and you can click deposit all, which will maybe speed up the process a bit if you have a ton of bags like you do. Hi, I have a question. I recently returned to gw2 and I remembered bag opener being a thing and I was going to make one. But then I tried to google a bit, and according to the "bag opener" section of the fast.farming community webpage, a lvl 80 character is better for opening and salvaging gear than lower level characters. So my question is: Is there something Im missing with their calculations, are they only for certain loot bags and not silverwaste ones. OR is a lower level bag opener no longer the profitable thing, and its just that the normal gw2 community just havnt caught on yet?

Just check the price of materials in the BLTC and that's how you know, Platinum sells for more than Mithril for example, so you target that.

I fail to see the point here, you can easily farm low tier mats on a level 80 by visiting whatever zones are whatever level to have whatever tier you're looking for. in the meantime you're totally losing out on ectoplasms by rolling low level instead of high level rares.

Its not about getting the mats, its about getting the most value out of those bags in terms of TP sell price. Also he just said that you make up for the lost ectos with the amount of lower tiered mats you get.

That argument doesn't hold water because anything under T5 mats are pretty cheap on the TP and T5-T6 mats are super expensive in comparison. Again, you can just go to whatever zone for whatever tier you want and farm bags off mobs like bandits, centaurs, dredge, ect. WAY more efficiently than silver wastes. IMHO this is just a waste of time.

Now I'm not gonna argue with the first part of your comment, because I don't know which is more profitable. You need data and research for that. Yes, higher tiered mats are generally more expensive, but not all of them. Also you may be getting more of the lower tiered mats to make up for it. I have no idea. There are just a lot of people who claim it so...and I am inclined to believe it when enough people keep saying it. And so far you're the only person who said otherwise...so I'm kinda leaning towards the other side atm.

Much of the common level 80 mats are almost worthless. There is so much of it around. Wouldn't you rather have lower level mats that are worth something than mats that are worth nothing?

Can you show me your resources? The information I'm gathering from reddit and the Guild Wars 2 forums, this is still the best method. If using the Silverwastes. You COULD be a slightly higher level and squeeze out potentially a bit more. But the level is deff not 80. silverwastes.loltools.net

I'd have to agree on just opening on an 80. Even going by your site you linked (silverwastes) T2 is the most profitable followed by T6 on like everything. If you're really pressed for medium tier mats just go spend a laurel on medium crafting bags. Med crafting bags get you the most money per laurel (it's only 1 but still). If you want to spend all your time farming silverwastes when not a F2P player that's your call. Much better and easier ways. And going by all the info from the fast farming website, lvl 55 would be best option at opening bags, then 56, then 80. Then it goes 54, 57, 53, 52, 51, 50, 49 on salvage profit. 7 copper difference between 55 and 80. If you were to sell every single piece of gear, then it would be best to open the bags on a lvl 63 char. This is also taking into account proper usage of copper fed, silver fed, runecrafters salvage kits.
