Crazy part is 99% of these were in the game 10 years ago. At the time dynamic questing was and still is the most fun way to quest. It's sad that after 10 years of GW2, we still have new MMOs coming out with "pick up 10 weeds, kill 5 chickens" level of questing....
@Kindlesmith702 жыл бұрын
Well... GW2 still has all that. It's just done with a different coat of paint so may not be obvious to some. It's an mmorpg. It has the perks and failings most mmorpg have. The worst offender is player numbers for non-soloable content. I tried to clear all the content in the game, and got most done beside the late game content of both the base game, and the following 2 expansions. I should also mention there've been time gated content too that will never return. You will only get to see the end result of those, and read about them within the game. Not fun to miss out on content because people just don't want to do it.
@cattysplat2 жыл бұрын
I genuinely enjoy the class questing experience of quest hubs and returning to base to turn in. Went out of my way to talk to all the heart quest NPCs before and after, even still GW2 does reward you with unique rewards from each heart vendor and some decent world building dialog so it does reward you for doing this.

What blows my mind as a 10-year veteran player of GW2 is that almost ALL of the content you experienced and reviewed here so far, has been in the game since release. Like, this game has been here for 10 years, just waiting for you to explore it. I often find that many MMO players were too preoccupied with their current MMO when GW2 released in 2012 and had a hard time breaking their mindset away from the established routines that dominated the MMO landscape at the time, so they never gave this game a proper chance. I think, in some respects it truly was ahead of its' time and it's always a joy to see new players discovering it for the first time. Better late than never!
@MegaGurmi2 жыл бұрын
This is spot on. I was preoccupied when GW2 released, and never even gave it a look. I randomly downloaded it 200 days ago and have played every day since. This is the MMO I've always wanted.
@vekokrava14232 жыл бұрын
I bought EoD when it released and played for 70 hours, but I can't stand PvP because I don't know what other classes can do, it really makes me mad, therefore I know I can't play older mmos because they are full of content. I would rather play New world with low gearscore and get oneshotted by max GS minmaxers then play a old game where I don't know anything about other classes, more so that I can't even notice which class is which, as in New World it is fairly easy, you just look at weapon and you know how to counter that player. It is too complex that I cannot play, just goes on my nerves whenever I go to que for PVP arena. And well I found leveling boring too, like WoW leveling, like any older mmo where you are so far behind, thats why I bought an expansion... Don't get me wrong, I tried New World leveling, but it was kind of fun because everyone started fresh, and professions were very interesting so it kept me going forward, in gw2 I don't find crafting very interesting, it is awfully done too. Meta events are repetitive as any PVE content, that's why I cannot enjoy PVE if I do it more then 5-6 times. I cannot understand how people can play and enjoy pve for a very long period of time, that is why every normal person plays PVP or they don't play MMOs at all...
@Tazytots2 жыл бұрын
As a side note: For any roleplayers seeking a new MMO to call home, Guild Wars 2 will not be that game. The RP community on both "offical unofficial RP servers" is completely dead. There is no RP community anymore.
@dewdew802 жыл бұрын
There was a very loud crowd around 2012 that wanted a gear treadmill, the trinity (I can see wanting healers), PVP in the regular world etc. The fact was that if someone released a game described as an "mmorpg" in 2012, the very vocal minority of hardcore MMO players were going to shit on it unless it gave them in particular a real alternative to their current classic MMO. In spite of the fact that GW2 was a lot more friendly to casual players, the game required a large amount of files downloaded and in the meantime people were going online to read opinions on the game to see if they should commit.
@matevzkosi19422 жыл бұрын
Honestly im on the other end of the spectrum. I was hyper hyped, comming from GW1 waiting years for GW2 release. Then It didnt deliver. It had no real endgame content and having broken the tank healer dps type of gameplay, which seemed like revolutionising at the time, turned out, at least for me, making game too easy. Comparing fights to WoW bosses, the game didnt challenge me enough. Never really picked it back up again since it always feels like the content cant challenge me enough to be worth my time. I feel like it is a great game for casual play tho, after watching this just started downloading to maybe just explore the world a bit again.

It's ok but the leveling experience is crap, the world and story is a mix of immersive and things that really take you out of the immersion. Crafting is useless, way to many currencies and grinding mastery system is ok but could be way more interesting. Mount system is amazing but only to counter their messy open world's. They never balance right most of the time it's 30 percent effort once and a while you will see a small percent better so they can sell expansions. There are tons of other issues to. Guild Wars 2 has been the only MMO out there that truly makes me feel like I'm in a hostile environment when my character should be. The lands of Orr are both unforgiving and draining to be in. There is a constant threat, a real "land of the dead" feel to it. Everything wants to kill you, nothing is good there, nowhere is safe.. even the safe zones come under attack from time to time & get overrun. This game is so underrated and I highly recommend anyone try it.

This is actually my number one complaint of modern mmos. Pre WoW, mmo's worlds were dangerous and you had to group up to travel and that was part of the fun and adventure. Now days the world mobs are very weak and none of the world really even has a point to exist. Everything is just queue for instance and stand in the city. I actually was in the GW2 beta and was very hyped for the game but I found the combat and progression underwhelming so I quit. Maybe it's worth picking up again all these years later lol.

Guild Wars 2 has amazing enviroments, however the danger and difficulty of this world depends on your knowledge about your class. This is a very well-produced review, I like it. Want to add one nitpick for any new players who see this who might be misled -- you don't need to "get a mount first" for world vs world as the only mount you can use in the game mode is the warclaw, which is unlocked by playing world vs world. It does require the Path of Fire expansion to start the unlock process, but once started, the entire unlock process is done within the world vs world gamemode.

I would love to see you continue Disco Gizmo's adventure, but I wouldn't recommend jumping straight into End of Dragons because it's the culmination of 10 years of storytelling. You wouldn't really know what's going on and you'd see major spoilers for parts of the story that you haven't experienced yet. Chronologically, the story goes: Base game -> Living World Season 1 -> LWS2 -> Heart of Thorns - > LWS3 -> Path of Fire -> LWS4 -> Living World: The Icebrood Saga -> End of Dragons. With the recent update, you should be able to unlock the Raptor mount without doing Path of Fire, but before that people would recommend doing the introductory parts of Path of Fire until you unlock the Raptor mount, and from there go back and do the story chronologically. LWS1 and LWS2 are a bit dated and don't take mounts or gliders into account, but they're worth it to get the full story for maximum enjoyment. As someone who enjoyed the base game, the first 2 seasons should be good content for you nonetheless. The game really ramps up from Heart of Thorns onwards, it's jaw-droppingly amazing.

There are homes in GW2, they are called "Home Instance" and are located in your races home city. They aren't super customizable as like ESO, but have tons of benefits for crafting, currency, traders, items, etc. I've had the game since release and have played an absurd amount of time before realizing these home instances existed, 😅. GW2 has always been a game I kept going back to just for the shear amount of content and the great community. Great video, and yes it is ridiculous that is exists in P2W 2022. Cheers!

@sscaide2 жыл бұрын
Hey all, veteran GW2 player here. Thought I'd add a few notes about the new player experience for anyone seeing this video and thinking about trying it out. -At one point in the video, Disco makes a trek across the map to a higher level zone. This is perfectly fine, of course, but it's good for new players to know that every character created has access to waypoints at every race's starting zone by default, allowing you to explore whichever region of the world you want and making it easy to join up with friends who're playing a different race than you. -While PvP and WvW make fine endgame content, one of their biggest selling points is that they can actually be accessed from the early game and used as alternative methods of leveling up. PvP doesn't use equipment stats, meaning even a completely new character is on an even playing field with all others (stat-wise, anyways). WvW boosts all characters up to level 80 temporarily, but *does* use equipment stats, so lower level players will still be behind, but that doesn't prevent you form participating in large-scale sieges with big groups. -Also, when it comes to mounts in WvW, it should be clarified that the mounts earned in PvE can't be used here. There is only one WvW mount, the Warclaw, which can only be earned by actually playing WvW. Luckily, one of the upgrades to the Warclaw pulses a speed buff to nearby players, so if you run alongside a group of players all on Warclaws, you should be able to keep up on foot. -Dungeons are a bit notorious within the community for being somewhat empty nowadays, but there are always still people looking to clear them for the first time or farm some dungeon currency. If you can't find a group, I recommend making your own listing on the game's LFG tool. -If Raids seem too menacing, the game has several other options for level 80 group content that can ease you into it. Fractals are similar to Dungeons, but are a bit shorter, making up for it by being denser and harder, with more modernized boss design. They're also conveniently sorted into 4 tiers of difficulty, allowing both new and experienced players to enjoy them. Strikes are like shorter, easier Raids that pit you against a single boss (except the "Forging Steel" Strike, which is kinda just its own thing). There are also a variety of large scale open world fights called world bosses-they tend to be the easiest, and make a good starting place for improving players. -Finally, something that I don't think was actually touched on as one of GW2's major draws is its level scaling feature. Unlike other games, where low-level zones become obsolete after you surpass a certain level, in GW2 traveling back to an old zone will temporarily scale your level down to accommodate the area, allowing you to continue earning rewards and XP there.
@thechugg43722 жыл бұрын
Another note, guild wars 2 has smart level scaling, unlike ff14 which has you lose most of your gameplay to go back to an earlier dungeon, here you can keep your high level abilities.

additionally, there are a few microtransaction elements in the form of miniature followers (cosmetic untargetable companions), extra bag slots, extra character slots, superior gathering tools, skins, and leveling booster packs, all of which are entirely optional you can reach the base game's endgame content entirely for free, but certain features (such as mounts) are restricted to the expansions, which will require purchase

I've been playing GW 2 (again) for a few months and have been pretty happy. However, once you get to 80 and/or the expansions things become very complicated and the difficulty seems to ramp up. I am constantly confused on how to go about doing things in the high level game. Even basic items, like how to get to expansion zones, are never mentioned by the help file or wiki. Still, it has great content. I've probably spent about $250 between picking it up at release, getting all the expansions, and buying Gems to spend in the in game store and don't feel like any of it was a waste.

Guild wars 2 is a proof that gaming companies could live off for years and years without making their games pay to win or sub based but still with microtransactions. this is why i don't trust them when they say "devs need to eat". are they saying that gw2 devs transcended to beings who don't need food? if this game could do it then others can. it's just that greed is a very addictive trait.

I had been playing WoW very casually (for the reason I'll say later) on and off for a few years, and I always felt pressure to get to the endgame and keep pushing. I never did manage to get to level cap, even for vanilla, partly because every time a new expansion came out the finish line got ever further away and that was demotivating. One day with a friend whom we sometimes played with who was a more serious WoW player but also got exhausted with it, we decided to find an MMORPG we could play together that was different to WoW. We stumbled across GW2, and started playing it. Eventually he let it go to play other other games, but for me it was a match made in heaven! I've never been a very PVP oriented person, and I like casually playing games at my own pace, discovering as much as I can, exploring, and definitely playing an engaging story. I feel like I finally found this in this game. I'm almost at level cap, so here's to sticking with it for a lot longer ;)

One of my most memorable moments when starting the game a couple of years ago was when I tried out a mount: It was the incredibly satisfying animation of my raptor going from full speed to a smooth stop or make a sudden turn. Seeing him using his legs and its entire body shifting its weight to break speed was so awesome, because I expected him to just have this unnatural "stop in its tracks" moment like in most other games. Little details like that made me quite immersed in the game.

As a former wow player welcome to the fold, its not trinity based like wow nor is it go here then here based except for personal story. The world is yours to explore, but its def a unique game in how it works. The dynamic events can even be done in the low levels areas, the big zone wide meta events are huge and encompass complete zones with 50 man squads completing them. There are so many events to do and join people for if you want , it will take a while for you to get it down. My god the original zones are good for starting and leveling, but they really outdid themselves with the expansion zones. If you decide to expand into the expansion watch for bundle packs on sale you get everything up to all the latest expansions and living worlds . After plopping down over 2000 dollars in wow sub fees this game is cheap, but so good. Oh and once you make a character and see how freely it moves and flows and the combat is so good you can never look back at the stiffness that is wow

I got Guild Wars 2 when it came out and I did not like it. I believe at the time I was still tainted by the basic mmo layout of WoW and didn't approach Guild Wars 2 properly. Once I figured to approach Guild Wars 2 like an action RPG, it not only made the game more enjoyable, but I was able to understand it's combat mechanics a lot better. One of the biggest complaints I've read about the game was apparently the story was "too bland". Maybe I'm in the minority but I personally enjoyed the main story and the entire build up towards fighting Zhaitan was pretty damn epic imo.

As a player with over 12500 hours played across two accounts, it is always refreshing to see honest reviews highlighting all that is good in this game. The veterans of this game way too often discount all that's good for minor shortcomings. I've left for 4 other mmos since GW2 was released and found they just didn't hold up when doing an honest comparison and came back. Most of my hours are from WvWvW but I do partake in the living story chapters, festivals, sPvP, achievement farming and only recently started filling out my legendary closet. Two things are a must to enjoy this game in the longterm: Find people you enjoy playing with and don't exclusively play one game mode.

As someone who's been playing for about 2 years I'm completely in love with this game. I really like how it respects your grind, as compared to an mmo I was playing before that. Getting best gear is very achievable and once you have it, it stays best. after that you can start working on stuff like shiny legendary sword and a shiny legendary staff and a bigger shiny sword. (I like shiny stuff okay!) Or you wanna try new builds on new characters and gotta get stuff for them. and then you make 5 more characters and each has like several different builds so yeah ... >< A bit of gripe though is, even though there's no pay to win, there is def pay for convenience in the cash shop. Especially the equipment and build slots are kind of expensive since they are per character.
