btw WP there is a second way up that you can get to with the springer's high jump, the bridge looks broken but its one of those invisible sand paths you cant see till you are walking on it

I understood from the dialogue of the Djin that the Jackals are made out of the sand that mixed with the dusty and shattered remains of dead margonites. The Djin consider making them into mounts as a form of redemption for their past mistakes (like karmic rebirth). So you are not just riding corrupted sand but actual margonites.

The jackle's main use is the sand portals but it's secondary use is blinking up slopes. It is allot faster than trying to use a raptor up slopes as your raptor's leap will get blocked by the higher terrain.

can confirm, the jackal is "optional" in terms of story, finished PoF story, got jackal which imo is a bit useless unless he gets the portal traverse ability. Kinda cool to use it but its vastly overshadowed by the other 4 mounts.

Skimmer and Springer are the two mounts best for Core Tyria due to how majority of locations have large water areas and high cliffs.

Griffon is not that good in Core Tyria because of its design being a Sub-Glider thus it is only useful if players don't have Max Gliding. Glider is still better than Griffin if it is max mastery in Core Tyria due to having more control when gliding and can be used during combat.

orrthehunter an untrained griffon is much faster than max gliding and this gap increases 20 fold wirh masteries. Since we are talking about mounts here, the inability to use the griffon in combat is irrelevant since its the same for ALL mounts but... points to griffon since you can mount mid air meaning that if you are near a cliff or on a height and jump/glide, you can use the out of combat air time to mount. For others, you would have to touch ground first and risk new enemies drawibg you into combat.

orrthehunter I would never say gliding givea more control either. With BOTH gliding and the Griffon, you can speed up and slow to almost a halt. With a Griffon however, you can drop/descend to any height you choose then reascend provided you still have boost time. While you can drop with gliders you CAN'T ascend at any time, ONLY if there are wind gusts you may and these are absent in core Tyria. In addition, the wing flap of griffons make it so that their descent is extremely slow and they keep a somewhat constant height FAR longer than gliders. Griffon is sub glider? No. Glider is sub griffon.

The Jackel was the only mount that gave me troubles while trying to earn it. I kept misjudging the distance of the teleport and kept falling off the side of the floating city. It's also the only mount I've specifically hotkeyed the special ability. Every other mount easily gets away with having spacebar work, but to teleport with the Jackel without jumping first needs a second key.

Use your dodge key, that also seems to be set as special ability key on default.

That's where I ended up binding it. Then again, I rebound my dodge key ages ago, and turned off double tap to dodge.

I'd advise just adding a modifier to your jump key and have that be your mount ability, it's a lot easier to put your finger on the shift or control key when you jump to use an ability than it is to take your hand off of wasd.

You will come upon the gianmt floating temple.... _if you can get to a place close enough to see it!!_ I've been trying to get there for two days, tried every angle except from the West and due South. I died 7 times, and all the rest of my ettempts were stopped by invisible walls. I'm stuck and I don't know what to do about it because it seems like I've tried everything now......Advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks for sharing, WoodenPotatoes. Using the barrier mechanic i was able to easily help a fellow player complete the toxic bacon skill point in HoT. Just thought that was interesting thing.

The Evasion on Jackal mastery 1, and the shared one on 4 is not to be underestimated, it makes traveling through anywhere with high enemy/mob counts a breeze. Basically if u have this you got a faster DD with the same 3 evades but on a faster energy CD

Try an enameled dye on the Jackal, I use "Enameled Sky" and it gives the color a cool flickering effect.

Enameled dyes look great on the griffon too same with raptor mostly because they add a sort of shine to it.

This Djinn place is best place to fly around with your griffon! really try it.

Dyeing the Jackal with Shadow Abyss is pretty cool, makes the runes look not-active and innerte. It's a bit interesting.

Go to the very very very southeastern corner of the Vabbi mount (it is pretty hard to find) and you’ll find a horse or griffins and a sun spear corpse. Interact with the corpse and you’ll talk to her ghost who tells you about the griffins and how they are her eyes and ears into the world. Go to the 5 highest peaks of each map and you’ll find griffin eggs. Go from merchant to merchant and buy the sunspear artifacts that cost 25 gold. There about 10 of them. Yes, you need to spend 250 gold on them. Also you’ll need to do legendary bounties to find 5 more artifacts (one per map). Then go back to her with everything and you’ll get a griffin mount.

Sevvi There isn't as much grind as you may think to get Gold in GW2. The best way is still probably the Silverwastes Farms (RIBA and Bandit Chest Farms) but that is the most "grindy" method, thugh far easier than other mmos. Other option is fractals. Just doing daily t4's could easily get you 20g in an hour at the absolute, absolute most. And if you have three accounts like myself, that's no sweat to get 60g in maybe an hour and a half

Hey WP do you think an underwater mount could be a massive way to improve underwater gameplay if we ever get an expansion with a lot of ocean involved? Because it's going to feel like a cop out if we have a Deep Sea Dragon focused expansion and it just comes onto land and floods things a bit.

In all honesty it could be for the best that they don't do an underwater expansion, as most do not like that gameplay. Perhaps they'll have one of the other Elder Dragons kill Bubbles before we get a chance to go too deep into the ocean. I suppose you could rationalise it as well. 5 of the Elder Dragons had moved to the same general area on the planet aside from one. And the 5 would probably have been drawn there due to magical activity. So if all the Elder Dragons were converging on one location and one fell behind, it could be weaker than the rest. So Kralkatorick in his current powerful state would be able to kill such an Elder Dragon one on one. Maybe that's why he's going south. However there's the possibility that Bubbles knew the others wouldn't go for magic underwater so decided to take that all to itself, making it just as deadly if not more so than the rest.

Woodenpotatoes you know you can bind your mounts on a key right? i always see you clicking on the skill to pick one but in settings/keybinds you have the option to bind each mount to a key.

Hello WP! Do you think we are looking at yearly expansions now that they want Living World to hand over the stick to the expansions, and vice versa? Love to hear your take on this. Keep up the good work! :)

rofl123mao if Living world starts in two months, that's December. If we give an approximate of one year for Living world, we are in December 2018. I imagine the next expac will be in 2019. Maybe itll be around the earlier months, but i doubt it. I hope the expacs are quicker but only if quality does not suffer as a result.

Yep cool area & mount, as for the griffon I wouldn't say it lets you 'fly' it's more of an advanced gliding, that said I'm a bit disappointed griffons don't catch updrafts (I know that is a gliding mastery but why not let ppl that played HoT and trained that have an extra ability -I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea to let masteries interact with each other a bit).

i believe thats actually part of the Perfected Envoy Armor (Legendary Armor Set) I went through the video and didnt specifically see anything on his back due to his aura effects while he was running around. hopefully Wooden Potatoes can let you know himself.

You can play Heart of Thorns pretty easily solo. Maybe the odd occasional hero point challenge that you can't, but beyond that you generally can manage without asking for help on map or a party of friends.

If you're just talking about story progression then can be solo'd, though would say the game can be quite fun to muddle about with a friend.

Same with most metas. That said, you don't really need to organise a group yourself, you can very easily get on just joining a map. I took the question as meaning "do I need friends to play it", and HoT can be very easily played by yourself, on your time, jumping into random maps.

teleport is better than raptor leap. Try the dredgehaunt cliffs right road to farm wood and iron with one and other and you will see it

The jackal teleport works well both up and downhill. They're aaaalmost the same speed (about half a raptor leap if you race around Divinity's Reach), so I prefer to have 3 bars instead of 2 (more consistency). You constantly need to get the furthest with raptor leap for efficiency but you rarely make the entire huuuge leap in core tyria, to many hills and what not. That makes the jackal way more efficient imo. Hope that cleared some things up!

They are actually tied to specializations, for example the chest he opened in the video if he was on a revenant he would of got a exotic item(with stats as swell) towards his spec collection.
