Guild Wars Mantid Farm Explained

Mantid farming in 2020 is a great way to earn gold unidentified drops as well as experience gain and festival drops! This video runs through a detailed explanation on how the farm works, including what you will need to set it up, and tricks to getting consistently clean runs. Solid guide man! I appreciate how thorough you went with this. I've been very I've been really keen on leveling my ranger up and playing it. I've seen you stream an SoO run on Ranger, are dungeon guides something you're keen on doing? I've been thinking about picking up some more specific roles for running dungeons with the alliance and learning speed clears.

Just to add to your great guide: As an Assassin you can also use Infiltrator Insignias to get more armor against Piercing + armor vs Physical. That's 20 armor vs. 10 armor and it's cheaper rn. Also you might want to recast Shadow Form with Deadly Paradox as killing is significantly slower and Shadow Form might run out.

Nice video, thanks for sharing. Question, why a sundering on the sword? Wouldn't a zealous be more effective with the energy regen per hit or is it necessary for the mantids?

You aren't using the sword to attack at all here, so you actually don't benefit from the prefix at all. You can have anything there (or nothing) but I would recommend against zealous/vampiric as you will only get the negative effect (hp/energy degen) without the positive (+hp/energy on hit). Do you think I could do this on A/Me or A/E? Because my sin is my closest to gwam, but I made a mistake so close to legendary survivor the other day. This looks easier than the fow HM I was using previously.

I am not sure with A/Me or A/E on mantid farming. Perhaps wastrels or sliver armor could damage without causing them to scatter, but I am not certain. There is a vaettir farm that A/Me works well on and is relatively safe with good xp rates if you are looking for a casual farm for survivor.

Great guide. I think I am doing it slightly wrong. I can never get the mantids to ball up enough, and often enough. So much so that I can usu kill between 10-18 of them, but not all. Any suggestions how I can improve on this? Everything else is a-ok.

A lot of it is just working with the timing of the pulls. The problematic ones tend to be the ones on the far wall (the last group). I would say try to let them run to you a bit so they ball more in line with the others chasing you. If I rush on ahead sometimes they stay wide and don't ball well. Without seeing a video of what you're doing I don't know what else to suggest. Hope this bit helps though!

@@camftw thanks for replying, I watched your vid again and took special note of the timing part. And I found out why I wasnt kill them all regularly. Balling up was one thing, but more importantly, I was not getting my EOE up fast enough. Meaning that I would activate my whirling defence too early, and that kills off a few of the mantids before the EOE is up, hence reducing the spike effect. The balling is now not 100%, but I am definitely getting more 20 mantid kills than before. Yay! Still good fun for a almost ?15 year old game? :)

TBH I have never tried this farm with anything other than A/R or R/A. I would be surprised if other builds of similar survivability couldn't do it though! I'd be curious to hear your results if you did it.

This farm is great for farming gold unidentified weapons (including celestial weapons) and monstrous eyes. During festivals with special drops (clovers, eggs, pies, eggnog, etc.) this is a good way to farm up those as well. I also get a good amount of elite tomes from chests that spawn in the area on some runs. Thank you very much for the feedback as well!

@@camftw im on my ranger, only thing i do not have is the 50vigor, maybe i group them incorrectly? and i think the -10 pircing :/ maybe thats why

@@lipsinggang The vigor isn't quite as "make or break" for this farm, just grab the highest available that you can. The -10 vs piercing is a MUST HAVE though as without it the Mantid damage will overwhelm the attacks that still penetrate past Shroud of Distress. Try to grab that and see if that improves your ability to do the farm.

@@camftw not necessary! On my assasin I use a shield with phys dmg -2 while enchanted and with a +45hp while enchanted mod, and it works just fine

@@quarion33 I suppose I should have clarified that there are options that meet at a middle ground that would also suffice, such as the -2/ench or -2/stance. Of those two the -2/ench is safer as ench uptime is guaranteed, whereas the stance has some downtime in the corner. +10 vs piercing is all around the safest option I believe, but you are correct in the statement that -2/ench would work perfectly fine too :) Thank you for pointing that out.
