This is my third video and I am so impressed and happy for you that you are following your dreams and moving to a place where you won't deal with nosey neighbors complaining about goat noise. I first saw your video on raising baby chickens which was a real eye opener and very informative and interesting and then I felt your pain in the "They're all gone" video. You are amazingly kind toward nosey neighbor! I don't think I could have been. I'm excited to follow your journey and have subscribed. One door closes, but this door is open wide!!

The very first video I came across was Jamie talking about having to get rid of the livestock because of the neighborhood you guys lived in. She looked down and discouraged, not just over having to give up the animals but over being in a place where you weren't with like-minded people, who didn't value homesteading. I am so happy to see that you guys made your dream come true. You've got a great property, and judging by the videos you've made over time, have found the happiness you were looking for. Good for you!

Your comments at about 14:00 are spot on. Often the most important thing to do is "nothing" Well - what many in the world call 'nothing': learning the land. On the wind turbine - get a weather station up on a tower for a year to gather data.
@testingtesting...123...24 жыл бұрын
I just watched the video about your awful neighbour situation...I'm so glad you're all out of there and can restart and enjoy!
@huckfinn42606 жыл бұрын
Awesome! You guys made it! Your new place is beautiful. A heck of a lot of work to do and you'll have so many learning opportunities as you go along. I'm in my third year on my raw land and just started building my permanent house last month. I had the basement contracted and will do everything else myself, including the design. I'm reading books as I go along and figuring it out along the way. I'm going to end up with a much better house than any of the builders in the area would have made, for a fraction of the cost. I have a good bit of experience with off grid solar if you ever have questions and you're having trouble finding answers for. I know I did. I don't know how it will be for you guys, but for me things ended up taking a whole heck of a lot longer than I expected them to. Don't get disappointed if your pace of progress isn't what you hoped it would be. It is a LOT of hard work. Just my 2 cents. I know you guys will be fine and don't really need the advice, but I can imagine you'll be getting tons of it.
@huckfinn42606 жыл бұрын
Like I said I know you guys will be fine without all of our advice, but I just have to throw out one more little tip. If you can swing it get a small farm tractor with a front end loader. You will be amazed at how much help that loader will be in all your projects. The ATV is nice for hauling your butt around if you need that, but a tractor will move TONS of stuff and the loader is like a little crane as well as a material mover. I couldn't imagine being out here without it.

How exciting!! Congratulations! I know this is 2 years old but oh well. So happy for y'all to have found this beautiful property! Regarding setting up a homestead, once you get the living quarters situated, I strongly urge folks to get the vegetable garden and especially the orchard trees planted FIRST, before you worry about livestock or anything else for animals. Get that food growing immediately. ESPECIALLY get your fruit and nut trees planted. It's so important.
@cynthiaweathers69796 жыл бұрын
For the garden, build a 2x4 cage. They are 8 ft. long and make 8 ft. by 8ft sections. put a door on it and wrap the whole thing with 1 inch chicken wire. Add a door. If you don't, the deer and gtoundhogs will eat everything as soon as it pops from the ground. And the crows will watch you planr rhen dig up the seeds and eat them. We;come to mountain living.

Then this Neighbour will have his “Piece of mind” he was lacking when you lived there! Wish you all the best and a lot of Dreams come true!!! And let me know if you ever need a Livestock Guardian Dog 😉🙏🏻

Congratulations! I hope you are as happy as i am off-grid. I had a halfway off-grid place for 8 years but I finally went completely off the grid July this year. The first sub arctic winter is closing in and we are doing good. Trying halfway for awhile makes the final jump easy. I cant believe I was a city girl and I'm now really happy dodging wolves and chopping wood . My earth cellar is full , my wood storage is far beyond what I need and I'm just so blessed. I live alone with my two children so don't think that's a problem for you woman out there. Woman can use axes too , it just takes a little longer :-))

I just found your channel. I have to say the second video I watched was the one where you were talking about the mistakes you guys made with the animals. I just wanted to cry. My heart just really broke for y'all. Now seeing you smiling, talking about learning to bow hunt just made me so happy for y'all. I'm a country girl. Born and raised in Tn. Grew up on a farm. My grandma always told me when I grew up I'd miss the farm. Grandma always did speak the truth. I spent the first part of my life trying to get off the farm only to spend a good part of the second half trying to get back on it. I would love nothing better than to homestead. Quilting circles and canning parties are right up my alley. I'm just so happy for y'all. I look forward to watching your beautiful journey.

Well, we are ready too. I cannot wait to see your journey and to learn on the way. My family and I will start this same journey come summer. 8 years of planning and I know we have some hard work and errors ahead of us. But we do believe this is the way of life. Happy to see you guys moving onward and upward! My friends actually did this exact same thing at about the same time as you! They moved from the Buckhead area of Atlanta over to an 88 acre lot of land with no buildings, in Oxford GA. They've added a well, solar, and use a composting toilet system for sewer. They have done such a wonderful job with their property, and have worked their tails off to get there. Hurricane Michael just went through their area, knocked down a tree, which landed on the heating element for their chicks and adolescent ayam cemani chickens and lost 50 of them due to the fire it caused. I'm hatching some of their new eggs for them to help boost their flock back up now.

I found a place n Missouri, no building codes, but the con’s I’m hearing is that it’s hard to get anyone to come out for anything, like did a well, and so on. There’s no power/water n the area I’m looking at, hope I find something with a spring. It sounds like heaven to just to get away from the control. I’d prefer to live out ur way, absolutely gorgeous “ I hiked on the Appalachian trail” but I don’t want to get too far from my son. Ya’ll chose a BEAUTIFUL place to call home! Thank u
