I work for a pharmaceutical company. We use a product that contains distilled vinegar on our walls. You can use it to clean your walls every couple of months then let it sit for an hour then clean it with water. It helps prevent and kills mold.

I have the same routine as you. I do 2 things slightly different. 1. I infuse my vinegar with citrus peel for the oil and a bit of smell good. whenever we use citrus, we store the peels in the freeze until there are enough to infuse. Just another way to reduce waste. since they can't be fed to any animals and don't do well in our worm bin, I needed a way to use and benefit from them. With 3 kids... you know we can eat some oranges pretty quickly! 2. If something needs disinfecting, I use hydrogen peroxide. I used to be addicted to products, especially air freshers. so glad to be of all those chemicals and saving money too. thanks for the video.

Jamie? I have been wanting a less cluttered life from stuff, cleaning and lord the the list goes on. I was looking for canning info since I have only done the canning without a pressure canner and something made click your channel. What a blessing. I love how you talk to us as if we're right in your home with you as if we are part of your family, you explain so we can understand, no nuisance talking, you explain what you do, why you it and where we can get the items you talk about. I have been what I call a low level prepper, parents grew up during the depression so that was instilled in me. We homesteaded growing up ,back then it wasn't called that you just did it. Since finding your channel and watching everything I can, I now have purchased my first ever pressure canner, I researched like you suggested and go the All American 925, I dipped in to my stash to get it. You have rejuvenated me to get back on track with my life that I want for me. I have been on my own for 2 decades not by choice, That kinda put a wrench into my life. Now, because of your channel and what you share, and all your followers share I am getting back on track for me and can't wait to try all the cool information you share.Thank You so much for doing what you and your family do for us out here is youtube land.

We use white vinegar and baking soda to unclog a clogged drain. Put the baking soda down first then pour in the vinager let it sit for about 1-2 hours, run hot water through it. If you need to do it again but should be good to go. The other day the kitchen sink faucet was running slow due to mineral build up, my husband unscrewed the strainer I put it in a jar with backing soda then vinager and let soak about 15 mins. Good as new and didn't have to buy a new strainer for the faucet.
@mackshaffer19236 жыл бұрын
Tina Burnham yes, you are right and we do the same in the shower, when my wife's hair begins to clog the drain. This works very well and clears it up in no time.

I am just starting on this path of non toxic cleaning. Thanks for your video! . :) In my concerns over residual chemicals in my home, I will be using new bottles for my products or only bottles from previously chemical free products. The chemicals and especially “fragrances” (artificial) in commercial products become embedded in various materials etc. (From what I have learned ) and it certainly seems to be true. I tried cleaning out a Mrs. Meyers spray bottle to use for a DIY non-toxic spray cleaner and used everything I could think of including white vinegar and baking soda to clean out the bottle to rid it of the fragrances and chemicals, but it was completely unsuccessful. It is truly shocking how embedded the chemical fragrances become - I think it is particularly difficult to remove from plastic. They also become embedded in our clothes etc. when we wash our clothes in a detergent with artificial fragrance, but it is possible I believe to wash it out of fabric eventually. - thankfully!

I saw someone else asking about septic tank issues and I heard you say you still use bleach from time to time. Also, someone asked about the front loader and dry cleaning ingredients, what do you use? I’m new to your channel but so glad I came across this today. Thanks for all of the information.

I have a suggestion, a wish really. I find a lot of your prepping/self sufficiency ideas interesting and in the case of an SHTF, particularly useful. But if the SHTF, I might very well not be able to access the Internet, KZbin, or your videos. So it would be great to have a library of such videos (I have solar panels). Your hubby could produce DVD's by month, year, by topic, or whatever and you two could them sell them as an alternate form of revenue.

Thanks for the idea Peter. Most of our videos are for putting into place now, before SHTF, but we will definitely take that into consideration.

I too would be interested to buy a DVD compilation of all your very well thought out and implemented homesteading videos. Vinegar and I have a love hate relationship. I hate the smell of it, but I love using it to clean my house AND more interestingly just found out spraying it on my dogs after a bath alleviates the yeast that causes them to smell so "doggy". They do not smell like salad afterwards, they just smell clean. Incidentally, I just purchased a small ten, yes ten dollar bottle of vinegar at a specialty store tonight. It is blackberry ginger balsamic. It's sassy tastin'. I guess when you save so much money on cleaning products, you can use it to purchase other things in life that you value more.

Thanks. The other miracle one would be Borax. My niece would put a dab on her fingertip then place on her aching tooth and pain would disappear in less than 5 minutes. And I love essential oils, I remember using Cinnamon oil in a small bucket of sudsy water at my daughter's apartment a few years ago, and I used a little more to give it that nice holiday scent which lasted for hours and hours. It is very strong so only a few drops are needed. Another excellent one is Clove oil which has the highest rating and it will Kill any bug instantly, naturally mixed with water in a sprayer bottle and add a little salt or soap to help mix the clove oil. Those two oils are the Cheapest and Most effective for just about everything and is usually under $10. The only oil I have never been able to purchase is Rose oil because it is at least $200 for a very tiny bottle but it has the highest frequency of all, and the higher your frequency, the less sickness will come to your body. Another one to have, in hot weather, is peppermint, a few drops Under your feet will bring your temperature down. It will increase your energy too much if put on your skin plain, so only a drop in some lotion on the palm of your hand.

Olga Palenzuela You should save all of your Citrus Peel as well, Whether Grapefruit, Orange, Lemon or Lime, they all have a very strong aroma (there's a reason so many cleaning products are 'flavoured' with them) and great grease-cutting properties (Yes, I know it's 'Scented' not Flavoured) but you can make your Vinegar Water/Bicarb mixture smell like a Spanish Orange Farm or a Tuscan Lemon Grove by 'bunging' (such an elegant word don'cha think? 😂) the peel into your spray bottle to brew for a bit. Like steeping your tea leaves.

Ma'am, at 5:55 I don't quite understand. Other cleaning experts have said that baking soda + vinegar cancel each other out. How do you actually apply it? Is it like how you do with clogged drains?
@onedazinn9986 жыл бұрын
Yep...those are the products I use except I had to use another biodegradable detergent (I had Mrs Meyers on hand) though I use Dr Bronners when I have it. We have a stainless steel shower...and getting the hard water stains off was great when I made a scrubbing past of baking soda, vinegar & a squirt of the liquid soap. I think I got the suggestion from www.wellnessmamma.com. I had to use a stainless steel scrubber...I let it sit for 30 minutes, scrubbed with the scrubber then rinsed with hot water. I started using these products because we are on a septic system and I was so used to using bleach before when I lived in the city. I use a spray bottle of 1/2 water, 1 teasp soap and about 4 tbsp of vinegar to run sugar ants off (it kills them dead & deters scouts but you have to respray for a few days....this also makes a nice overall cleaner for toilet bowl if you don't flush til it's orange o.- Vinegar, baking soda, & salt is God's cleaning sanitizing crew I do believe. :) Instead of prepping pantry with bleach...I now prep vinegar, baking soda, & coconut oil...so handy.

You can use the Sal Suds as your detergent. For softener, distilled white vinegar works great. If you’re addicted to scents, buy wool dryer balls and put a couple drops of essential oil on them before tossing them in the dryer.

another awesome video, well done. In one of your other videos when you were making stale bread recipes i noticed you had the baking pan and glass bottles on top of your stove. Is that a glass top stove? and what do you use to clean it? i have tried wverything and nothing really works. Thank you

I just use the kitchen spray in the video and/or sometimes the vinegar. I have tried special glass top cleaners and they do no better

For hard water stains and difficult stains or caked on stuff, just use Sal Suds full strength and let sit for 20-30 minutes and then scrub. It'll come off.

I do either vinegar or I add some rubbing alcohol to my window wash water, works great as well, though the vinegar is cheaper, but you don't need much alcohol, I get the dollar store bottles for a buck.

Came across this for a school thing, and i was wondering, what kinds of essentual oils would you recommend for people with alot of allergies? Is there a hypoallergenic type?

Do you have a DIY for leather preservative? It’s winter time coming, and I want to protect jackets, gloves, and boots. The store bought stuff is so expensive! Depending on what is bought, its often a “wax,” but not a moisturizer- and not helpful whatsoever. I am looking for a moisturizer especially for older gear. Thanks for such great videos. Even a city slicker like me gets a ton of info from your videos. I dream of when I can get out to the rat race and live like your family does.
