The key reason is that the lady in Novak's match decided she couldn't continue. If she could continue, like the kid in above case, Novak would have been let off with a warning. It's in the rulebook.

@@diegosotomiranda4107The balls aren't soft, they use extra duty balls and they are heavy and hard when new. If the racquet had hit him or he was scared, he would've been defaulted. I still think he should've been defaulted though, throwing your racquet at someone is indefensible.

Yes, either warning or point/game penalty. The umpire and US Open officials said "line judge's reaction was decisive to default Djokovic". He was robbed if you ask me.

No chance... Because these two incidents are different.. Here he thrown it while playing, with a momentum... So, even if he would have done it purposely, there is a chance to make excuse or atleast the lady was not hurt.. In Novak's case, he threw ball 1st time with anger ( which did not hurt anyone)... Then no one said anything... 2nd time, he threw the ball that recklessly that it hit the line umpire in a serious manner ! So, there is 2 points : 1. Everyone recorded his previous angry moment. So there is proif that he was in rage.. 2. He is responsible for his reckless behaviour which hurt someone... The question is not about, the line umpire.. if she was okay or not..she was definately okay but her fitness does not justify NOVAK's misdeeds ! I do not understand the problem of his fans.. they should repeatedly watch the match & accept the fact that he did it..(not intentionally, but his behaviour caused some unnecessary loss to another person)... The fact would not change that, his ball hit a line judge due to his out if control state ! So, to keep himself in control is his duty which he failed ! Novak accepted it greatly & apologised & then won in ROME.... But his fans are still stuck to one question...
