Guillows 0-1E Bird Dog Hot summer flight

its just crazy hot out so what a better time to fly some guillows r/c conversions. i hadnt flown the bird dog yet this year so here it it is. this is a 2 cell powered model so it has power but it is a bit heavy and flight times are around 3 min. on a 180mah 2 call. still though its a neat looking and fun to fly model.

Love it. I remember as a kid wanting to cram some standard size servos in these guillows planes, with no concept of power to weight or wing area lol... great video ❤

Two of my favourites, the Typhoon and the Cessna "Bird Dog". Your models look very nice and both fly very well. I built this Cessna myself and tried to make it light weight to achieve a slower and so more scale light flight. Unfortunately I was not really successfull: Weight still too high and selected motor too weak for that weight. Due to inspiration from your video may be I´ll now just build a new one with less glue, lighter tissue, less paint and little bit stronger motor as well.

That's a nice flyer. It's one of my best flyers using rubber power. Being from Texas, I didn't think it would get much over 70 degrees up there. LOL 118 is to hot for anywhere.

Some years ago, I carved a Hobbyzone Champ into a Bird Dog ... USMC livery, OD paint. I also turned a Champ into a Staggerwing Beech. Neither have ever flown ... I have tried to learn to fly RC, but just can't. If you look at that Champ ... there are a number of airplanes that can come out of it. Based on your vids ... I'm thinking of turning a Dumas Curtiss P6e Hawk into an earlier slab-sided USMC F6C-4 with a radial engine.

I like it! I built one too when I was young and it flew.. short. Rubber band only. Still have the plans and everything so I’m still looking to build one again some day. Any idea how to improve aileron control? Perhaps a bit more chord? That little Cox powered Typhoon is awesome. I might want to try that out too, sometime. If I can find a 020 motor.

Thanks. I would probably build it without ailerons.the weight savings would make it fly better and the model flys nice with only rudder control
