As a "Casual" I find that GGS has 8 useful buttons and keeping track of them is way easier on pad. The other thing is that tournaments are volatile, so it probably could've been a different distribution of controller.

The flag wasn’t anything, the camera was just cutting to that Some girl was doing a blood curdling scream over and over and it got Hotashi to look away from the screen. You can actually hear her at 2:03:43 . He ended up complaining to the TOs that she was being disruptive

It's heavyhanded symbolism; bridget was raised female but in the old games identified as male despite only having women's clothes. The handcuff is because he was shackled to an identity he didn't want. As for why she's got them now as a woman, probably just because it was a defining detail of the character's old silhouette.

It's called number pad notation. If you look at a number pad on a keyboard, think of 5 as neutral, 6 as forwards, 2 as down, etc. It's much faster to both say and type than "down-forward K" or something, and it doesn't need to be translated across language barriers so it's very commonly used in anime-style fighting games. It's not too hard to learn, so if you're interested in learning these games i'd recommend familiarizing yourself

Evo is a world stage and should be treated as such so that people can maybe pick up a new game they find interesting. Once you get them hooked, they you can throw this code book stuff at them.

It has a lot of defensive actually, people who know how utilize fd, ib and ibfd makes the opponent think twice about their pressure and often they have to change what they do to adapt too these different mechanics. It's just that at this stage where you see the world's best players, they're so good that 1 mistake could cost you the match. That's just natural in high level play.

@Konakon izumi well, people at the pro scene are completely diffrent creatures by default. They have the best knowhow and have experience skill and expertise in this area so they probably will find a efficient route. I also don't believe a defensive game would be a good idea... Ever heard of turtling from for honor? It suuuuucked playing boring matches where it was a staring contest to see who would attack first and get shove on block for the rest of the match.

@Konakon izumi Its just the current meta deal with it... The game does not have a very short meta cycle like any other game these days. Also only accounting for the top 8 is kinda obviously absolutly biased imo. evo had a good mix of characters except for baiken and testiment I think those two should get some changes that make them much more viable in the pro scene

It has FD, PB, Yellow RC. Back dash invincibility. That’s more defensive mechanic than most fighting games.
