Sol's entire design concept is basically "how many Queen references can I cram into a single character", and then Daisuke made him a cool self-insert (even going so far as to personally voice the character in the first few games). His going name is Sol BADGUY, his birth name is Frederick, his favourite music album is "Sheer Heart Attack" by Queen, and in previous games, he even held his blade in the same way Freddy Mercury held his mic stand. As for Faust, he USED to be more weird in a funny way than creepy. He was a child doctor who went crazy when a child died during his operation. The trauma turned him into the crazy killer Dr. Baldhead, until he caught a glimpse of the truth of the world, which warped his perception. He put a paper bag on his head to hide his shameful past, and returned to being a good doctor, except he kinda lost his mind, causing him to go crazy on occasion. The information he absorbed allowed him to warp reality, letting him create rifts between dimensions and manifest objects out of nowhere. He mostly used these in combat as lethal joke items, cause in his heart, he still wants to be a kind and delightful doc who can make children laugh. In Strive, Faust's psyche has deteriorated to the point of him no longer remembering his accomplishments, regressing from a famed doctor to a simple practitioner. The line "Blue, Red, and Black Paranoia" is his perception of what is left of himself: blue for the kind doctor, red for the crazy killer, and black for the insanity of "forbidden knowledge" that erodes his mind. It's him trying to bring it all together into a cohesive personality, but he struggles with how others perceive him and tries to adapt to expectations he doesn't understand.
@Unotuchable5 ай бұрын
The other thing about Faust is that the reason why he looks like a zombie now is because he burnt out literally all of his magic saving Delilah, by sacrificing himself he has gone back to square one by being able to save a young girl when his failure to save the young girl in his past drove him mad. He might be saved and restored to normal but at the moment he's a shell of a man still helping people as a doctor because of his sheer willpower.
@kaialone4 ай бұрын
I don't think that's accurate regRding what's going on with Faust in Strive tbh Based on Another Story and Daisuke's own comments, Faust in Strive has confronted the fact that the hatred he's always held for himself in the past is destructive, not just for himself but others as well. If he truly wishes to atone and helo people, he will have to accept helping himself as well. He may look... awful, but the truth of the matter is he used to be much more unwell in prior games, he was just masking it with acting.

there's a common sentiment about Find Your One Way. to put it bluntly it's the kind of song you think of when you're in a bar fight and you're winning. as far as the character goes. Sol Badguy is a former researcher of magic particle physics turned artificial super weapon who was originally a man named Frederick Bulsara. He is functionally one of a handfull of individuals in this universe responsible for the wider state of the world. Sol is a gruff and taciturn man, often doing the absolute minimum he has to in order to get something done. Impatient and generally uncommunicative, Sol often does what he wants at the pace he is comfortable with and while it is hard to get him to take things seriously enough put in in his all towards something, when he does, the results are often cataclysmic. This man has nearly singlehandedly ended wars, put down multiple planetary threats, and designed technology that is centuries more advanced than anything else in the world. He was a scientist, he was a lover, he is a murderer of his own kind, a god of war and a destroyer of a way of life. He is a bounty hunter and a tinkerer. He is the guilty Gear

Faust is a fascinating character. He WAS Dr. Baldhead, one if the best surgeons on earth. But he lost one of his patients and he never knew why so it dropped him into a deep paranoid psychosis and became a serial killer. He cant stand to even look at himself anymore or even BE dr. Baldhead anymore, hence the bag. Sad thing is, turns out the patients death was because of someone else, not him.

There's a line in Find Your One Way I really like and it's "You're not me/You're not the law". As someone with anxiety and OCD, it resonates with me because it always sounds like there's a voice in my head, telling me to be afraid 24/7 and stop enjoying life (like that "STOP HAVING FUN" meme.) This song is sort of a coping tool for me, because when I listen to, it feels like I'm telling my anxiety to take a hike. Also, I love it when themes are used as a way to build lore. Metal Gear Rising does this really well with its boss themes.

The interesting part about Sol in this game is that he essentially has 2 themes, with this one and Smell of the Game. This is his "real" theme, but considering Strive itself is supposed to be the end of Sol's story that began from the first game, and Smell of the Game is the main theme for Strive while essentially describing Sol's past to a tee, I've always considered that song to be his story based theme in line with most other characters in the game, while Find Your One Way is some extra flavoring that works as a feel good homage to Guilty Gear's vibe as a whole.

AH IM SO GLAD YOU DID ALONE INFECTION!!!! Faust is one of my absolute favourite GG characters, he's super dear to me, and his theme is also one of my favourites. Throughout the series he's never really been mentally stable; it's a running thing that he may spout nonsense one moment, then say something really philosophic the next. Someone's probably also explained his lore but I like him a lot so don't mind if there's a second Paragraph Guy :oP Faust used to be known as a surgeon named Dr. Baldhead. He was one of the most talented in the entire world. He came up with a new and experimental kind of surgery, but its use was denied. One day, though, a little girl came in, and he knew she would die if he didn't do this surgery, so he did, despite there being no permission. Unfortunately, she passed away on his surgery table. This lead to Dr. Baldhead going insane; he became a serial killer, who was eventually captured and, as punishment, entered into the Second Holy Order Tournament. This lead to him eventually coming back to his senses a little bit. Dr. Baldhead was EXTREMELY guilty for his actions. After considering suicide, full of shame and with no medical license for obvious reasons, he decided to cover his face with a paper bag, and roam the world to treat people who need the help in an attempt to atone. In his travels, he learned that the little girl he tried to save was actually _assassinated,_ and her death wasn't his fault! This was because Faust was such a good surgeon that his proposed surgery would've led to a scientific breakthrough making resurrection possible. Some big bads of the time didn't want this to happen, so they had her assassinated in order to make it look like it didn't work, and incriminate Faust. This, understandably, angers Faust; he vows revenge against the people who did this. Skip ahead a bunch of story after he's done that, all the way to Strive. See, up until Strive, Faust had been an energetic, goofy character. Suddenly, he shows up to Strive like _this,_ with no explanation. After a few years and some DLC characters being released, a bonus story was added, giving a little bit of context. Remember that song you reviewed, The Circle? One of the characters in that, Delilah, is an insanely powerful mage who's just woken up from a super long coma and discovered her brother's dead. She wants revenge for it, but her powerful emotions and even stronger magic means she's going to accidentally blow up an entire town of civilians in the process. Seeing that little girl from all those years ago in Delilah, Faust vows to save her. And he does, using everything in his power, including the magic that he also has; but he pushed himself so hard that his soul briefly leaves his body. From what I can tell, it at some point came back, but now he's in this zombie-like state, a horrifying shadow of who he was; "back to square one," a creepy doctor who's done all he could to save a little girl and now is even more mentally unstable. Okay that was longer than expected, but I REALLY love Faust! Even when he's all creepy like this, he's still very silly, as well as kind and caring. He's a fantastic character and I'm really glad you listened to and enjoyed his theme! Also, while a bunch of his theme is purposefully gibberish, I personally interpret the title as well as certain parts of the lyrics to be about how Faust himself does not want help. He wants to help others with nothing in return, but he ends up not caring for his own well-being, even when he very clearly needs it; previously just mentally, but now physically. He just wants to take care of it by himself, and even now, reflects on his grief and guilt at his past actions.

"Alone Infection" owes a lot to Faith No More's 1989 album The Real Thing, all the way down to the vocal melody of the line "blue, red, and black paranoia" being a direct musical quote from the chorus of "From Out of Nowhere" (the first song on the album). It's such a weird song, but back then FNM was doing some fun, weird stuff too. :)

Regarding Find Your One Way: One of the community's favorite inside jokes is that "this song sounds like a bar fight, and you're winning" and it's so funny that you picked up on that immediately Regarding Alone Infection: Faust is one of the most powerful magic users in the GG universe, and he uses that power to heal. He fights by throwing random bullshit around the stage, and I mean random literally- his signature move is pulling out a random item from a preset list, which can have one of a variety of effects on the match. Lorewise, he was a beloved and respected doctor with a silly side until a child died under his care. The trauma made him snap and go on a murder spree. He eventually recovered and went back to practicing medicine, this time unlicensed and with a bag over his head. In Strive, he was put in a similar situation as before, where he had to save a young girl from subsuming to her own magic power. He had to use enormous amounts of his own power in the process, which physically stretched him out (he was quite tall to begin with), and fried his brain, leaving him in his current state. It's quite sad, because you can see the shadow of the man he used to be in the creature he is now.

Sol's weapon is called The Outrage and is a modified anti-Gear sword that is blunt but can be used to channel magic. Everything like technology and abilities in Guilty Gear are powered by magic. It's classified as a superweapon due to its efficiency but Sol is very good at absolutely slamming it around most of the time lol The name "Sol Badguy" comes from the time Freddy Mercury called himself "Mr Badguy" and he is THE Guilty Gear, who the series is named after. Gear are crazy artificial monsters that infinitely regenerate so they were extremely hard to kill. "That Man" aka Asuka (the guy who has the song "The Gravity") turned him in to one.

Also yeah explaining Faust's background is a whole rabbit hole and when you know it his song incoherent-ness starts to make sense. But to give the BIGGEST/BROADEST tldr possible, "doctor gone wrong".
@doop10055 ай бұрын
For Faust there is a little bit of a story. At least from what I can gleam from the lyrics and story. So essentially Faust was an amazing doctor who could heal litterally anything but one day his patient died on the operating table. As a doctor of such high renown and ability he had never failed before and the stress was eating him alive so after the little girl died he went insane and became a serial killer. But actually he didn't fail the little girl and instead someone had assasinated her. After he found that out he essentially had en exestential crisis(again) and decided to become a doctor again(just not under a hospital) after putting the bag on his head to hide his identity. So, during strive he has this new sickly appearance. From the song and story you can kinda tell his mind is slipping again. Thats why the beginning is so chaotic and why there is a roar and a melodic tone singing at the same time. I think thats were "alone infection" come from because he is infecting himself(?). Some more lyrical interpretations: "We've got only one sky -> blue, red, and black paranoia" I interpret this as his sky no matter what time morning(blue), afternoon(red), and night(black) his sky is always tinted with paranoia, hence he actually sees only one sky. He is always afraid of either failing another patient and/or slipping back into insanity. "I had to run away -> We see eye to eye -> I told me without you" Harmony/duet/two voices: He ran away after the surgery went wrong so the 'you' refers to that girl who died and both side are agreeing "we see eye to eye" that without her they are a mess.

It makes sense that Sol's theme sounds like the GG soundtrack as a whole, since he's the main character! Also since you were curious about where the puns/references are hiding, Sol's real name is actually Frederick Bulsara, which is literally Freddy Mercury's name, and his favorite music in universe is queen lol.
@mojojojox50435 ай бұрын
Here we go, these two are pretty fun. I'll try not to make a massive comment but I don't have too much context on Faust so that'll help. It starts out with such a dope riff and the clapping part in the verse is easily a reference to We Will Rock You, the hand percussion is such a cool detail. Yeah bar fight really fits this theme, I'm sure someone already mentioned the comment in regards to that. The song oozes confidence and I love that about it, this song is kind of perfect for pumping weights. The break section references Sol's original theme Staying A Live and that's really cool. The solo is dope like always. The yeah's on the chorus are pretty fun. The song's lyrics basically talk about Sol's outlook and that's basically it. I think there's a bit more in the instrumentals that make the songs different from each other but I do think the similar swing/kind of repetitive tones just comes from the fact that this soundtrack uses one to two genres with progressive elements. The lyrical content imo does enhance these songs a bit but I think you can enjoy them by themselves too. There has been live Guilty Gear concerts but Naoki seems to have trouble singing several of the songs in a row which is unfortunate. There was a recent performance and I theorize he didn't get much time for a heads up and it was out of no where because he was very jet legged when performing (he did a good job considering he was jet lagged lol). Faust's theme has... a lot lol. There isn't that much to mention lyrically since the lyrics are about his whole character arc. Brutal riff and it hits just right, the screaming has a bit of insanity. The whispering part gives me insanity vibes as well. I like the screams here, I didn't like them at first but then they grew on me. The chorus has a wonderful melody, the goofy jazzy section hearkens back to him being more goofy in past games. It also gives a nice bit of variety to the song. The chill Radiohead part is really touching and very sombre, it's so tender and sad. The strings sound so good and lead into the final chorus so well. The climax with the final chorus is so good and I love the shredding in the background. Great song, I enjoy the melodies quite a bit. Sorry for the long comment.

Faust used to be a good doctor, but after losing one of his patients, who was a young girl, he went crazy and became a psycho serial killer. He was one of the villains in the first Guilty Gear game. Later, he came back to his senses, so now he is one of the good guys saving people. Although he is still a goofball. Alone Infection feels like his entire story arc compacted together, with the shifting between sanity and insanity, madness and realization, and regrets. I really like the strings from the bridge continuing to the final chorus part and dialing everything up to twelve, where it almost sounds like this guy is ascending to heaven. It almost makes me cry.

Sol Badguy's real name is Frederick Bulsara, and is directly inspired by Freddie Mercury (aka Farrokh Bulsara) of Queen, which you might've guessed based on how much his theme sounds like Keep Yourself Alive. In the game, he's a scientist who is responsible in part for creating the titular Gears, which are essentially humanoid bioweapons, and turned himself into a Gear in part to make up for the damage he did to the world. Faust is a doctor who essentially died and became the setting's version of the Grim Reaper (the reason he's wearing a paper bag over his head with a hole in it is because that's where he shot himself). In previous games he's generally been pretty affable, but he's having a rough time of it due to events from the previous game, so he's a lot more lethargic and obviously monstrous (although he does try to help, in his way).

Faust is a weird character, as he's essentially a former doctor who was framed for killing his patient, which caused him to go insane and become a deranged serial killer. Eventually he overcame his insanity and regained his conscience, and began trying to help people again. However he carried a lot of guilt from his past crimes and attempted to "Go back to square one" however this mentality screwed with his head and now he seems to have lost quite a lot of his brain again, and moves and talks in very odd ways, as it seems like his mind isnt fully there anymore.

Alone Infection just reminds of a System of an Down song.

Since you did Requiem for I-No’s theme, then you need to find Wickedest Eyes from EVO. It’s the better theme for I-No, even if it’s not the official theme.

About a Doctor. I herad theory, just stumbled upon it in comments. Doctor was a surgeon and his patient died during the operation, I heard his patien was a little girl. He thought it was his fault and gone insane from the feeling of guit. And "We have only one sky; What is it's like to you?; No one can see the colors but you" its like Doctor asking his dead patient what a heaven looks like to her. For us its like "blue sky 🏙️ at day, red sky at dusk 🌆 and black at night 🌃". I didn't came up with this myself so I can't answer the question if you have some. But this theory sounds pretty decent to me.

I sadly cannot get behind the new direction of guilty gear music. I much prefer the old stuff
@davidwilkinson46345 ай бұрын
While I do have nostalgia for the old music. The new music just gives them a lot more personality

@@davidwilkinson4634 I disagree but to each their own. I know my opinion isn't the popular one and guilty gear is now made for a different crowd. Both in music and gameplay. Enjoy and have a good one

@@isaiahhellems7901 idk as someone who plays and enjoys the older games more, strive's music is one of the only things i dont really have any issues with besides other non-gameplay things. the only stuff i enjoy in +r and xrd more are all gameplay stuff but music i think all of it is great in it's own way.

@@omidsarwar931 one. I am not a kid I am 32. Two. Maybe because I didn't feel further explanation was required. I don't like the new direction of the music and that person I responded to does like it. I know how they feel and they know my feelings on the matter. If you want further explanation I would simply say that I disagree because I felt the old music had plenty of personality beforehand. That's about it. If you wanted me to be more detailed I felt like it would get too long winded. So I left it at that but I guess you can't please everyone. And you generally you shouldn't.
