The ones who made this port are apparently Tantalus, the people who ported Skyward Sword and Luigi's Mansion 2 to Switch, and Twlight Princess to WiiU. Definitely a name to remember.

It is kind of required. Fighting games do NOT run on Delta Time. In other words, if you drop frames, the game slows down instead of just rendering less frames because frames are the unit of measurement for time.

The lack of crossplay is the only thing holding me back from buying this. So many of my friends have it in PS5 or PC. It’s a shame. It may not happen but I would love a patch of sorts on the switch 2 that adds crossplay. That would be my dream.

I get it. But for me personally, playing a console is easier for me. And I don't have arcade sticks for the ps5. The switch however. But crossplay really should be a thing. Arcade sticks are expensive, and there aren't a lot of good options for the ps5

While crossplay is awesome, I might be the only to think this but I'm kind of glad that there is no crossplay on this version. I think it would've lagged like hell on Switch or lag with other platforms due to other platforms being vastly different. Rollback at least is still there. Hats off to Tantalus Media for this port though they did an absolutely AMAZING job with this port, especially that it's at a rock solid 60 FPS. This might be one of the Tantalus' best ports on the Switch, they did amazing work on Skyward Sword HD and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD too.

Well, while Guilty Gear: Strive is a pretty popular game, fighting games in general are kind of niche in certain aspects, except for titles like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Tekken, and while there were some Guilty Gear games in other Nintendo consoles, they aren't as well known among Nintendo fans in general Don't know if Arc System Works or Nintendo should have given this port a bit more publicity or if ArcSys are hoping that the new GG anime series will give Strive in general more publicity

The best they can do is what they did with the Wii with Gamecube compatibility. Its just a luxury, there is no way Nintendo's gonna boost performance for a 3 yearold game that came out on PS4. This obsession with power is really annoying ever since pro versions became a thing, if you want power get a PC that boosts Switch games because people holding out for Nintendo to do it is a waste of time.

@@gregwilliams4926 both the series and ps5 can boost performance of previous gen titles, PS5 with patches and Xbox in some cases can do it naturally with auto HDR, FPS boost and increased resolutions (there’s a reason Red Dead 1 didn’t re-release on Xbox like it did with Switch and PS4/5, the 360 version already functions at 4k 60). So I don’t think it’s unrealistic to think it “could” happen, whether it will will entirely depend on Nintendo 🤷‍♂️

It's insane to me that Strive is running on a switch. It makes no sense to me. The lack of crossplay is a big downside for me, but if I was still taking the metro to go to work, I would definitely buy this and play the arcade on my commute. This is one of the best fighting games of all time.

This is my first Guilty Gear, but I had always felt attracted by the characters. Playing it has been a pleasure. Characters are so charismatic and play so differently! Visually it is a delight, the character design, the anime rendering, the attack effects... I am in awe at how smooth it is given it comes from way more powerful machines, but I guess the developers learnt a lot with the also impressive DB Fighterz port. I have to learn a bit more about blocking and what not, but on a surface level it is a very fun game for beginners in the series or for fighting game lovers in general.

Have it on PC/Steam. Bought it again on Switch. Roll back netcode is honestly something Smash should have considering Nintendo is charging for online. Sakurai said the considered it but there would too many side effects. The thing is that competitive smash have used roll back netcode with things like Slippi and it worked fine.

Although it would be great for competitive Smash, the side effects Sakurai mentioned would've made the casual experience (which is the one that counts at the end of the day) a teleport fest of items, assists, hazards, etc, along with saturation of elements of a 4 player Smash match

It's wonderful to hear how well optimized this port is! My laptop from a good few years ago with an ssd, ryzen series lags a lot on most stages if i don't play on low settings, which means I lose out on a lot of fidelity. I wouldn't buy this version for myself but perhaps to play with friends and family! Also it's really funny that you refer to the character models as sprites when they're in the traditional 2d fighter camera perspective, because they are animated intentionally to look like the sprite animation from old guilty gear games. It was a bit more convincing in Xrd but the effect is still strong and so impressive because of how forcing a 3d modeling/animation program to pose the characters and tell the computer not to smooth the frames between the key frames. Every frame of animation is intentional, just like when they worked with sprites. In Xrd they went as far as painting shadows on top of the character in their textures, so they wouldn't have dynamic lighting revealing the fact that they are 3D until you do a flashy move like an Overdrive or Instant KO. In Strive there are lots more lights, (i think there's some post processing too? Not my field of expertise) and camera shifts embracing the marriage of 2D animation techniques in a 3D environment.

I played this one starting last week, when it released. They held no punches with this port. It just works and flows as one would wish. Normally, I’d be sensitive to this, if something was amiss. Guilty Gear does expect a certain level of control and reaction speed to do well in it. You get into it and you quickly kind of forget you’re playing this on a tiny tablet. (unless playing it portably, that makes it kind of obvious) It’s definitely 60fps. When doing the tricky timing combos, you can definitely feel it. Glad they made sure it was. The game (and some of the missions) aren’t even possible if not given that level of response.

I think they'll probably add crossplay when Switch 2 version released.Back to TGS 2024,I saw an article said the developer didn't add crossplay because of it's hard for switch player to fight against players who already played for almost 4 years in the beginning. I think they'll add it eventually, it's not a difficult function compared to how you port this game to switch.Most importantly,strive still has many contents come this year. Season 4,Anime,switch 2 patch,strive is ASW most important title,I am sure they'll add it eventually .

It's really quite remarkable that Arc System Works got this game looking and running as well as it does on Switch. The graphics in Dragon Ball Fighter Z had much more noticeable cutbacks than in Strive, but it looks like Strive still manages to hold onto a constant 60fps necessary for fighting game frame data, unlike MK1.

Arc System Works didn't work on this port, but rather Tantalus Media. Tantalus is known for their HD remasters of Skyward Sword and Luigi's Mansion 2 on Switch, and Twilight Princess on Wii U. This is without a doubt, one of their most impressive ports on the Switch, especially the framerate is a rock solid 60 FPS, and that the load times are really fast, even faster than PS4 or PS5 in some occasions.

I've been playing this since launch and loving it! Strive is the first Guilty Gear that I've really sunk my teeth into and it's been an interesting transition from say Street Fighter. The characters feel heavier, moves more deliberate, and attacks hit hard; a throw takes almost 15% of your health. Still, the game looks awesome, plays great, and has a kick-ass soundtrack. I'm so happy this came to the Switch!

I hate to say it, but this review is AI slop. Regardless of anyone's opinions on this port or Strive, the written review is 1:1 with this as mentioned in the video and it's blatently obvious that very little research or care was put in to most of it. - The overview of RCs is spectacularly wrong, and don't match up with how they work in ANY GG games - "Dustloop Exploits" don't exist (lol). Dustloops were a style of combo that some characters had access to in older games, and most characters that did back then STILL DO in Strive (Sol and Baiken for example). The wall does not eliminate Dustloops, it just shortens combos. Calling them an exploit in the first place tells me that whoever wrote the review either did not play those games or do the relevant research on this topic, or assumed that they were a somehow infamous because the Dustloop wiki was named after Sol's Dustloop combos. - The character design is not "between Glamrock and BDSM", I genuinely have no idea how that is the conclusion you came to. - Wallbreaks don't stop setplay opportunities, they just require you to break the wall with a super in order to get them. At higher levels of play, most wallbreaks are done via supers when the meter is available and the attacker is granted a knockdown on stage shift to set up their offense with a safejump or whatever other condition their gameplan wants. The entirety of the review is covered in random adjectives like the writer has a thesaurus at their desk and the flow of review suffers greatly as a result, too. I'm not normally one to criticize this kind of thing, but it genuinely reads like some basic talking points and context were fed into AI and then minor proofreading was done here.

Other Arc System Works games on the switch like DBFighterz and Blazblue didn't enlarge the UI (Fighterz specifically has three health bars for your team). The large UI looks jarring and clutters the screen, especially when characters super or triple jump.

not much, especially compared to previous GG games. the story mode is a 7 hour movie with no gameplay, each character has an arcade mode path and there's a survival mode where you fight hoards of cpu opponents. that's everything gameplay-related (outside of reading lore entries and using the figure mode and such). if you want a GG game with a lot more to do as a solo player, get XX accent core. although it is harder to grasp and looks a lot older, there is more to do

They are simple enough for people who want to play the game more than casually though, and that should really be the target market for a guilty gear game or fighting game in general since 99% of the game mechanics are designed for players that actually know what they are. Whereas casuals won't even care about learning what the differences between the 4 roman cancels are. This is not the target audience I want the designers to be catering to. Guilty gear barely sold a 100 000 copies in the past now they have sold millions by sacrificing parts of the series like intense execution and endless depth for the entire roster. They don't need to remove more for even more millions they have a good following now.

Can't any reviewer be honest about how the game have 0 offline modes, and nothing to do if you cant find anyone to play with online???? I know it because I played it on PC:.. and know the game is incredible boring if you cant find opponents because it has 0 single player... but you dont mention it for the switch review... so that people will run and buy it, to then get buyers remorse... switch is the worst place to launche an online only game... >.> unless its monster hunter or pokemon obviously

Doesn't it have an arcade mode? Doesn't that allow you to play the computer or is it PvP only?

@@chujiwu68 It has versus mode and arcade, both can be played against cpus (arcade basically tells a short story for every character, you fight some cpus and depending on how many rounds you've lost, you'll get a different ending and different final encounter). The bad thing is that cpus aren't very good in strive

My biggest wonder is if the game actually has the dlc on cart or did they do the most evil of port and leave it all to be downloaded like the playstation. This will be the 4th time this game has released across 3 console types and so far they have yet to include the story mode or even the day one free dlc characters like I-no on a disc LIke it'll be a bummer if it's there with dizzy stuck in jail and more dlc along the way keeping it from being complete. But it would be better than anything the playstations have got

All the DLC is there except for Dizzy. So yeah, her icon is top left but locked
