If the Chargers decide to trade for an offensive weapon, it should be to trade up (only if necessary) in the 1st round to assure themselves of getting either Warren or Loveland. Trading for expensive vets isn’t in the best interests of a team that’s still building its roster.

All in on one player isn’t the move right now. Finding another available vet to compete with QJ for the second string, a rookie with a contested catch profile, and giving the current WR’s on the roster a chance to compete. The reason I would go that route is I think TE and RB are easier ways to get those receptions on the field. A TE that can hit the seam, and a RB that can replace the Ekler role. Add an afforded vet, and a rookie WR, that can fight for the deep threat role.
@Komodo82153 күн бұрын
No way i give up a second round pick for DK Metcalf. I just pay T Higgins or draft a wide receiver. If you are giving up draft capital you trade up to get Tyler Warren the Penn State Tight End, or trade up to get Loveland to make sure you get him. One of those rookie tight ends will be way more valuable to Herbert than a wide receiver.

Love the analysis here on DK. The only thing I slightly disagree is the draft capital it would cost. When you look at these other players that have been traded most of them have had multiple years of control under there contracts. In the case of Hollywood, AJ Brown, Claypool. Those guys were all on rookie deals lowering their cap hits making them more valuable. While I think the general media is far off on the value of the trade in my opinion it would be the third rounder this year and next years third rounder with conditions that have a high likelihood of pushing it to a second rounder. In my opinion that's probably worth it. You would be drafting a WR likely in either of those picks so I view it as a swap of that WR with a 2nd or 3rd round pick attached minus the rookie deal. Please let me know if you think this is far off or what you think of what I proposed! Thanks, love your guys content!
@tim36313 күн бұрын
Value seems off to me regarding similar trades. Hollywood was 24 when he was traded, AJ Brown was 23, Claypool was a big whiff (but also young) and Adams was arguably the best receiver in the league. I can't imagine they get close to a 1st rounder for him, let alone a second. DK is 27 and a player who heavily relies on his physicality. I don't see the Seahawks getting a ton more then a 3rd rounder and a day 3 pick. To me this would be far more similar to the Bills trading Diggs last offseason for a 2nd rounder (and they got 2 day 3 picks back). Seems like a more realistic trade value. Depends on how you think DK would age long term; to me he's not going to be viable post a rebuild for Seattle. I don't see them being competitive under Geno, and if they can get extra picks while freeing up space to retool going into 2026, that makes a lot of sense to me. This seems like a good 3-4 year move for LA who can afford him while Ladd is cheap.

I dont see them making any trades like that to get DK metcalf it doesnt make sense for how harbaugh and hortiz build teams and they are definatley not getting a 30+ million a season tee higgins thats def. Not gonna happen I could see them getting mark andrews and then drafting a tyler warren or colston loveland that way they have two really good TEs on offense and they can sign a cheaper option at wr and probably draft another

If they are trading for a player ita gonna be a really good gaurd or center or maybe a really good DT harbaugh and hortiz build through the trenchs thats where they will spend more capital they know they need a good big outside wr but they also need a lot of other things too and I think they want to have two great TEs the most on offense they want to run 2 and 3 TE sets more than 3 and 4 wr sets but they were kinda forced to do that this season cus the offense wasnt what they wanted to work with but I see harbaugh and hortiz trying to get thia offense closer to what they want

I mean if it’s more than a 3rd rounder, there’s no reason to do the DK trade rather than just sign Tee for 34m. Lots of positions to address in the draft so gunna need all those picks
@peterf.42682 күн бұрын
Steven, disagree pretty emphatically on part of the DK analysis. You said (assuming I heard you correctly, I was doing some other work while listening) you did not think Hortiz & the Chargers would be interested in a 1-year rental of DK. Not only do I disagree with that, I think it's the ONLY way they'd consider bringing DK on. DK, despite his reputation, isn't a tier 1 WR. He's a tier 1 athlete who plays WR pretty well. I doubt the Chargers would pay $30+ million to a WR who is already pushing 30. But they would grab him for 1 year as he's making a push towards a contract & would help their comp-pick formula. Anyway, love the content & thought I'd opine. Cheers.
@keroutson2 күн бұрын
Why would they give up a premium pick for a player to be there for just one season when they have so many areas to address ? They’ll probably invest in the trenches above anything else.
@peterf.42682 күн бұрын
Also disagree with Steven...they're clearing salary. A 3rd round pick should do it.

@peterf.42682 күн бұрын
If I'm right, you can get him for a 3rd round pick...the Hawks need cap relief. Then you do NOT extend him, he leaves, and you get a 3rd round pick back as a comp pick.
@keroutson2 күн бұрын
@@peterf.4268 - I’m not so sure the Chargers would automatically get a 3rd in return. Regardless, you think the smart move would be to trade away a premium pick that could end up being a long term solution on a rookie contract & trading for a player that’s only going to be on the team for one ( the loneliest #! ) season when the Chargers have plenty of areas to address ? I would think they’re going to address the trenches above all else but maybe I’m wrong!

Metcalf would be an odd choice in my opinion. No one wants to hear it but like it was mentioned in the video, he's a WR very similar to QJ. Both are best working medium to deep routes, getting the ball into his hands with space in front to be a size/speed mismatch. Difference is that DK has rare speed that can be devastating on deep routes or after the catch, and maybe now he's more versatile as he has aged. But they're still quite similar players in how they would be asked to play in Roman's offense. Now if it ends up being a trade to swap QJ + draft pick for Metcalf that could be interesting and make a little more sense. Seahawks move an expensive contract off their cap, bring in a young player with similar skill set to replace DK, and scoop up an extra draft pick. But that's a pipe dream for now lol, unless Schneider was in love with him pre-draft I doubt he'd take that kind of deal unless it was still paired with a high draft pick.
@jacobc14543 күн бұрын
I just can’t see them pulling the trigger. It would be really cool to get him but I just see them drafting a WR rather than trading for a star one
@alanteague27993 күн бұрын
I don't see it happening. I would love to see a Drake London clone, if in fact, one exists. Is it at all possible Q.J. gets better ? He has the talent to improve on what he does best. I would like to see another quality WR drafted and possibly bring in a quality FA as well. However, with all the needs on the roster, both offensive and defensive lines DB'S and running back. TE and edge is part of the line. Does this team need a real #2 QB, I say yes. Depth players as well. Now you have a draft class. Money is an Issue and that is just pure fact. Also I agree with what you said about aquireing and extending Metcaff. Hortiz has shown with that kind of money Hortiz can do better. I don't see it happening.
@probableflaws35972 күн бұрын
Id be fine with a 2nd and a 5th, just not a first. If he had a couple years left maybe, but the fact he’s due new money and isn’t great with the contested catch would scare me off giving away our top pick.
@Electric_Funeral3 күн бұрын
Loveland might not be the deep threat that Metcalf is but I would rather draft him and try to find a WR to take the top off later in the draft. Or go sign Darius Slayton to be pass-catcher 3. As long as QJ has less responsibility in this offense, but this isn’t the point in our rebuild to start throwing around day 2 picks
@alfredaguite77813 күн бұрын
I think you have to factor in the WR draft class. Lots of cheap WR talent to leverage. I think a 3rd round pick alone is enough for a player they don't intend to pay.

Great analysis. This trade will not happen. Seahawks are smart enough to know that the best way to get into compliance with the cap is to restructure his contract. Also, teams are not allowed to trade players before the start of the league year. If Chargers are unable to get Tee Higgins, they should just bring back Keenan and Mike on cheap 1-year deals and find the long-term answer in the draft.

The reason the Chargers lost in the first round of the playoffs is because they still need talent. Not knowing who they bring back from all of the thirty free agents and what this team needs in the draft is the biggest concern.
