An excellent pick! My issue with it: perpetuating negative Romani stereotypes

I get that. I definitely roll my eyes whenever I see a stereotypical religious/spiritual mexican warning the white leads about whatever supernatural thing they've gone and summoned, but it usually doesn't retract too much from enjoying the movie for me.

There's actually some evidence that scary movies/stories can be helpful for anxiety and even help kids learn to manage fear. It's a safe space to process the emotion and have everything be okay. I've also found that a lot of the best representations of mental illness (and also the worst, but still...) are in horror. If you're like Kelsey, or just a horror novice, definitely try watching with friends first!

I actually thought the whole movie was a metaphor for eating disorders, especially with all of the focus on mouths in the horror. I was a bit surprised that that idea was so quickly dismissed.

this episode was fun to watch but me and my bestie watched this in middle school and thought it was basically the snl skit of a "scary" movie. i am honestly so shocked to hear these takes right now lol. (spoilers) she told her boyfriends mom that her dad was dead and the mom was almost disgusted but right after said "and my moms an alcoholic" and all of a sudden the mom has the most empathy in the world , she straight up kills a kitten for NO reason AND THE GOAT DEVIL ????? come on lol

Also: I decided to look at other movies Justin Long has been in since he was so good in this. I watched a movie called Tusk that he starred in, expecting him to play the perfect boyfriend like you guys said he always does. He is FAR from that in this one but man, this movie hasn't left my mind for days. I am BEGGING you guys tp check it out!! It left me so disturbed in the best way. Now one of my absolute favorite horrors. Think Zach might really vibe with it. Guessing Kelsey might not like it as much tho lmao

If Kelsey wants a thriller movie that doesn't feel like a caricature, watch Rosemary's Baby, it's what Hereditary WISHES it could be. Yes, the director is problematic, that's full guilt, but the movie is good. So please add that to your October roster. :)
