Milkyway had some hair loss issue and was taken to see a vet. She was quite scared over anything during the visit. The procedure should be just slightly uncomfortable but doesn't hurt....

because I haven’t seen any comments about it yet; the vet seems to be collecting a skin scrape sample. they use a blade to scrape the skin to analyze under a microscope. it is uncomfortable, ends up a tiny bit bloody, but it’s necessary to diagnose skin conditions. it’s not exactly painful, but not comfortable either. this little piggie is just trying to communicate that she doesn’t like what’s going on, but now she’s on the road to recovery thanks to this vet! 😊

Piggie with skin condition needs different bedding. I never used store boughten bedding of any kind, it all itch my Bella so much. I used thick heavy fleece blankets in the winter. I made one layer for the whole bottom of the cage & made sleeping bags with the rest of the blanket. Thicker bags for winter & thinner for Summer. I took out the thin layer from the bottom of cage every two days & replaced with new layer. Every week I washed everything & started a new week with clean supplies. I had my Skinny pig, Bella for just short of 6 years. I took her out every morning & she scream at the top of her lungs until breakfast was in front of her. I cuddled her & held her a lot. When the weather was perfect I would take her with me in a pouch. She loved to go places with me. I miss her so much. Sorry guys, I’m just sad today.

We used to have piggies about 4 years ago (we rescued them from a neglectful owner in our neigbbourhood who left them outside in a filthy hutch with no food or water during winter) and my very motherly dog grew very fond of them, treating them like they were her puppies. She loved those piggies so much and we never had to worry about her harming them. We no longer have any guinea pigs, but my dog apparently has not forgotten about them as she ran into my bedroom with the most worried expression when I played this on my phone without headphones. All she needs is the sound of their wheeking and she'll come running, ready to comfort her babies ♡

So quick little story here. Ok so one time we were getting my guinea pig an mange shot at the vet. The vet was holding him on the other side of the table. When she gave him the shot he started freaking out, understandably. My arms were resting on the table and when the vet let my pig go, he ran over to me and wedged himself under my arms. Very cute!!! They can scream much, MUCH louder. My neighbour's dog got into our yard when we had our beloved pet guinea pig on the grass in a wire pen with roof. The dog pushed the cage over and got the guinea pig. I was upstairs in the house when I heard the loud, high-pitched screaming. I actually said, "That's a bird in distress," and looked out the window. Seeing the dog and the upturned cage, I knew it wasn't a BIRD in distress and ran down, yelling at the dog, which ran off. I don't know what it did to our little fella, but I got to him just in time to see him take his last two breaths. My son was 12 at the time. I told him when he came home from school, and he BAWLED his eyes out.

The area of infection is usually tender and a bother for animals, hence the use of an e collar after treatment or ointment that deters them. In lots of cases like these you end up scraping so much it bleeds.

My guinea pigs used to yell kinda like this whenever I walked by with food. My cockatiel still makes this sound in their memory. He used to sit and watch them play below. The cockatiel travels with us, and the first time we were coming home from a trip away after the guinea pigs died, my cockatiel got really excited and started making that sound, like he thought we were going home to see them. "Sorry buddy, they're dead, we're not gonna see them again." But after that we got him a hamster. The hamster tank is covered so he can't interact with the hamster directly or hurt himself, but he likes to sit on top and watch it, and has even attacked me for trying to pick up "his" hamster. He's usually pretty cool--he does ASMR with me sometimes--but he definitely has strong feelings about his pets.

Our piggies don't like being held very much either. It's sad, but we love them just the same. Ours are rescues from someone who let her pigs breed out of control, so maybe they were not properly cared for before we got them.
