If I had to pick one bass to use for the rest of my life it would have to be the fender p-bass. I love my jazz bass, and my schector stiletto, but the p-bass is just so effortless. Agree about the PRS. I bought a black Special back in 1990, and the thing never ever changes. It is the most comfortable guitar I have ever tried... except for maybe the fretboard, where I like the more modern flatter fretboards, like the MusicMan JP my friend owns, but otherwise the PRS is great. And two years ago, just to have a bass, I bought a Sire V9. The electronics had been replaced with something better, but I don't remember what... I don't care.. hahaha!, But it is a really really nice bass.

Gibson, Rickenbacker, Earnie Ball, instruments are WAY overpriced. I think that they think that they are worth more and are over-valued. Anything above $2K is a waste of money. When prices jumped higher than $700 (late 70's/early 80's), you know they were going down hill. I've had Gibson, G&L and a lot of Fender basses, including Fender/Squier guitars. Gibson RD Artist bass was cool, but unstable. Gibson Les Paul Recording bass was a great short scale, but not what I needed. G&L was great, but their necks kind of sucked with their 3-bolt radiussed neck/fretboard. They seem overpriced now with a strong hint of cheapness - In their American made instruments. Their overseas guitars sucked. Rickenbacker doesn't like change and are specialized instruments. They are ALL over priced now. I bought a New Rick 4001 back in the late 70's for around $400. I'll never buy one again. Up until the early 2K's Fender Korea, Japan, elsewhere sucked for guitars. But since, have grown up and have started to have quality to them. I've had 4 or 5 Fender basses and several guitars. The basses seemed to be quality instrument, the guitars until the early 2K's were a mixed bag. Until the 2K's, all overseas guitars, Mexico, Japan, Korea were all out of tune with themselves, which made playing miserable. Fender has seemed to change, mostly for the better. Although, I will never purchase anything over $2K for them. The main problem with many of the guitars, before a certain time, is both fret sprout & being out of tune with themselves. Overall though, Fender P & J basses are the established workhorses for music. Their guitars have become better now than they were in the late 90's. Even the Mexico built guitars are much better.
