I think so. I think rockband just disables the orange cymbal. The only problem that stopped me from buying rockband to play with the guitar hero kit is that if the song requires both sticks to play the hi hat with (So it's fast basically) then the yellow hi hat becomes the snare which is kind of weird lol.

_Rock Band_ never required both sticks to activate Overdrive (its version of Star Power); whenever your overdrive meter was at least half-full you would get a special glowing crash-cymbal note every so often that you could choose to hit if you wished to activate Overdrive.

Its not poping out of the TV lol. Just coincidence lol. I have basically recorded the xbox using my HDPVR then just masked out the chart and put it over the camera recording the drums. I did a video a long time ago showing you how to do this. Try searching abell12 how to make guitar hero videos.
