This old 80s Gibson advertisement has left me a bit confused. Maybe they are trying to say you'll be able to play fast on them? Who knows... it was the 80s! I'm more impressed by the lack of change in string packaging.
We also ran into a few cool guitars!

Allison Holmes The prices on Reverb are higher (sometimes) so that the sellers can cover the Reverb fees and still make a profit. I personally know of a store that I visit occasionally that list their inventory on Reverb at 10-20% higher than what they have it priced at in their physical store. This store specializes in top tier vintage and recent high end used gear.

A roller bridge without a trem adds an interesting dynamic with bends. I know a few guitarists that like a roller bridge on a fixed bridge setup. I kinda like it myself, I feel like bends are easier but that could just be in my head, I also top wrap my strings so... I do find it helps a little with tuning stability, an area all the LP/SG headstock style guitars hurt a little. Thinking of adding a roller nut to my LP Traditional too, just for giggles to see what it does.
@captainhowdy3104
@captainhowdy3104 4 жыл бұрын
Xaltar, ever tried those bent steel saddles, fender and Wilkinson make mostly. They are just a bent one piece metal with no notch. I love bending on those.
@captainhowdy3104

There are some nice roller bridges that just pop on and off, be careful with the gibson...most the ones I see for sale fit the epi. Type with the slotted screw.
@allstopblue5717
@allstopblue5717 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah roller bridge is definitely more about tuning stability not so much about bending. With Gibson style guitars it’s all about the nut slots when it comes to tuning though. That’s where the real difference is made. Top wrapping or not is all about personal feel, some players like it, some don’t. Some guitars like it, some don’t as well.
@captainhowdy3104
@captainhowdy3104 4 жыл бұрын
@@allstopblue5717 you mean les paul style guitars.....I can think of a few gibsons with awesome string pull
@Xaltar_
@Xaltar_ 4 жыл бұрын
@@allstopblue5717 Agreed. Like most things, personal preference has a lot to do with it. I like top wrapping on my LP but not so much my SG, that one feels better with the tail piece raised and strung the normal way. It's because of the neck angle, my SG (epi) has a shallow break angle compared to my LP (Gibson) so top wrapping makes the break angle over the bridge too flat, even with the tail piece slammed to the deck and I get some string buzz. On my LP top wrapping plays and feels much better. So there can be some technical considerations but mostly it's about feel. I do want to get my hands on a string butler for my open book type headstock guitars and see how it effects tuning stability. My LP in particular keeps going out on the d and g strings, it's barely noticeable but it's noticeable.... A bone nut and nut lube helped a lot but it could still be better.
@Riverdeepnwide
@Riverdeepnwide 4 жыл бұрын
A roller bridge seems odd on a non-trem guitar but it will save a lot of string breakage for the heavy and fast hitters. Regular saddles can act like little guillotines when your customer is in a punk band and his amp is just wee bit too small.

Re: the roller bridge: I would assume it's less to do with the rollers and more to do with the positionable saddles. I have a Mexi Precision bass where the tailpiece is ever so slightly too close and therefore the scale length is a fraction off, and no amount of adjustment can quite get the low E intonated correctly because the saddle doesn't quite move far enough. A bridge like that would solve that problem, especially if they're not using standard tuning.

They were back ordered for so long I gave up and ended up buying an NOS '97 Cherry Les Paul Special.

I love Telecasters and that Music City Jr. is something I’ve wanted since they were new. I couldn’t afford one then. I used to live in Memphis and went to the St. Blues showroom and factory regularly when it was down the street from Sun Studio. Apparently, they moved to the suburbs in Bartlett sometime after I left Memphis. I actually own a Bluesmaster and if it had that Glaser string bender it would basically be a Music City Jr. except that mine has Kent Armstrong Tele pickups instead of P-90s.

I do have quite a nice collection going that I feel like I now have some profits to be had while allowing a consumer to feel like they are also getting a good deal. . Simply haven’t posted yet. I do have a guitar I bought a little while back that I find selling for considerably more now and I don’t know how to list it because how do I know if what I have is fake because the serial number was how I discovered the new value. . I am a patreon of yours. Are you open to a conversation? . I certainly don’t want to take advantage and would rather share in exchange for more knowledge too.

The other statistic they need to add is number of returns. Since you can’t leave feedback on a return, there is no reasonable was to judge how often a seller misrepresents merchandise. The whole feedback system on Reverb is a joke, that’s why everyone has 100% positive, including three sellers who sold me guitars with obvious problems not mentioned in the description, nor when they resisted it.

I’m no expert, but it seems to me that the used market isn’t much different than it was before the pandemic (other than the fact that physical stores are buying more used gear than usual because inventory on new gear is lower than it should be especially now as we head into the holiday season). With used gear it really depends on what it is someone is selling. People getting desperate and selling gear at low prices to move it quickly happens to people all the time (although it probably is happening more right now). I’ve done it myself, thankfully it’s been over 20 years since I’ve had to do it. I don’t intend to sell anything I currently own. I’ve faired pretty well during this pandemic: my wife is an “essential” worker in healthcare and the company I work for was shutdown for a few weeks, but we were all allowed to file for unemployment and we all still had jobs to come back to (we were also fortunate that the company covered our insurance premiums while we were laid off- I don’t think many people have been that lucky). In fact I’ve worked more hours since I’ve been back than I did before the shutdown. The last day I worked before we shutdown we got off early and I went straight to the guitar store and bought a new guitar to have something to enjoy during my time off. Now I’m about to buy another one.
