An easier and quicker transition to the A chord in the intro & verse can be done if you slide up from the 2nd fret (F#maj) to the 5th fret (Amaj), plus adding the pinky for the A dissonant chord is right there. Playing guitar is often about the economy of motion.

Yup. I’ve seen bands covering this and you’ll see it done both ways. I think a great learning addition is when you’re out seeing live music and watching what the musicians are doing and what position they’re in on the neck. KZbin can be useful but a lot of times the camera is all over the place…

Nice lesson Ryan, I don't think you need to switch fingering to play the A chord though when playing the second part of the main riff, your barring the A with you finger, so you just need to lift your other fingers off and strum the A D G strings whilst barring the second fret... I think this is how they play it live too.

Thanks Ryan! Also try grabbing the A note in the main riff with your pinky on the 5th fret low E. Pretty sure that’s what Dean does to smooth out the transition.

Good lesson. This song moves pretty quick but once you get the rhythm and going from that f# power chord to the open a one you can get it down. Nothing fancy but this song rocks, funny how a lot of great songs are that way and no lap top computer or tracks needed. The way live music should be…

Isn't it easier if you do it with power chords ? When I watched Dean in concert, I thought that's how he was doing it ?? I also slapped Scott Weiland on the back when he came into the audience. A friendly pat. Since he wasn't wearing a shirt. Lol.😅👍 (RHCP) The Red hot chili peppers were the headline act. But, the Stone Temple Pilots stole the show !!! I walked out on RHCP. Even though I like the RHCP, they started jamming bits of other songs. Like the main riff to Whole Lotta love. Among other B.S. STP were much better !!! STP rocked Montreal !!! I don't remember the exact yr. Between 1998 - 2002 ?? STP should've been the headline act !!!👍 P.S. May the Lord look after Scott & all our loved ones. 💛 Even though I'm agnostic / atheist.
