The thing about the Blues is that you just start wherever you are and keep raisin the bar. Adlib is what it's all about, whoever your favorite inspiration is. Jeff Beck, B.B. King, Teduski Trucks, Eric Clapton, or whoever. All about flavor. Sliding in and out of the Blues is a nice ride.👌🎸😎 Enjoy those kittens now while they are small and cute because the demolition crew awaits.😜🤪😂😅🤣 Enjoy your weekend.😎🎸🤙🍻

That's exactly what I call a brilliant, amazing, smart tutorial. You're explaining going through it at an amazing rate, pointing out the logic and why you were doing what! I've added this video to my list so that I can practice it. Thank you so much for not blah, blah, blah blah blah, over five notes like most KZbinrs do

Thank you paul for opening my relative beginner’s eyes to the fact that to be able to play this wonderfully inventive stuff other than exceptional technique it’s obvious that a solid understanding of theory is necessary. You’ve mapped out my path for the foreseeable future. Fabulous playing and tone. Thank you very much indeed. BTW. you did brilliantly!
@paulstaffordcook8799
@paulstaffordcook8799 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Philip! Delighted you liked my video. To be honest I wouldn’t say I was a theory guy… and I certainly never sat down and studied that as a subject…. It’s more just a lifetime spent learning chords to songs. Fast forward many years and I kinda know what chords go together, like little families. And much of my lead playing is working from a mixture of chords and scales. I don’t know what CAGED means, nor do I know the modes. So it’s all just smoke and mirrors 🤣

Hi Paul ! Greetings from Akron , Ohio USA ! Wow , you are getting fancy on us . Great sounding Tele , and you are playing thru your best sounding amp ( to my ears ) . Nice to hear something a little different than the standard penatonic scale only . There are a lot of ways to use those 7 notes , and how you touch that guitar makes all the difference ! I hate pedals , and it is great to hear an artist at work .

How's it going kid, showing off as usual eh !, I love watching the faces on guitarists when they're bending strings and you're doing a great job , but I thought at first your Duke of Argylls were playing up hehe. So for today's story I want to take you back to when the game show Mr and Mrs was on the telly, old John and Mary are on and Derek Batey says " John and Mary welcome to the show, if you can answer six questions correctly you can win £5,000 , so who is going to go first ?", John says " that will be me Derek", so Mary goes into the sound booth and puts on the headphones, Derek says " right John first question, where did you and Mary go for your honeymoon ?", John answers Blackpool, second question, "what was the first car you bought together ?", John answers, a mini cooper, third question, " where is the strangest place you and Mary made love ?", John answers in that mini cooper. So now it's Mary's turn to answer the questions, Derek says " well Mary, John has given three great answers if you can match them you will win the £5,000, question one, where did you go for your honeymoon, Mary answers Blackpool, Derek says " correct well done, question two, what was the first car you bought together, Mary says " oh that's easy Derek, a mini cooper, "great Mary you're on your way to £5, 000, third and final question, " where is the strangest place you and John have made love ?, Mary says " oh Derek that's too embarrassing to answer" Derek says " come now Mary, if you want to win the money you have to get this right", where is the strangest place you and John made love ?", John says " it's okay darling I've already told them", Derek says " come on now Mary what's the answer " the old girl shouts " UP THE BUM". Take care kid.

I am not polishing your kn+b Paul, but I have to say I much prefer the way you play this track to the way Jeff Beck played it. It's largely down to you not fluttering the vibrato arm like he does, using swells instead, and you are a beast at dynamic playing. If you recorded this and stuck it on Bandcamp I'd buy it. 😺 Cute cats too. My cat loves breath mint cat biscuits 😳

Just saw a Jens Larsen short on modal interchange, I looked that up... I reckon that's what's going on in this chord progression? The major then the same chord but the minor and vice versa?

Hi Paul, Thanks for your insights into this tune. I've been having a go at it myself. I have a question about the Freqout. As part of the feedback simulation does it increase the volume after it locks onto the note?
@paulstaffordcook8799
@paulstaffordcook8799 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin. Sorry for late reply. The simple answer is yes. But there’s more to it than that. Having enjoyed this pedal for some years now, I’ve decided there’s an art to the way you use it. If you simply play a note and then press and hold the footswitch indefinitely, the feedback starts to latch on and intensify…. but then soon fades to an artificial synthetic howl and then dies off. So the trick is to enjoy the first few seconds and then mute the strings to kill it off BEFORE any artificial synthetic sound takes over. If you’re trying to emulate that famous long note in the live version of Parisienne Walkways….., that’s tricky. It’s possible but your guitar volume needs to be fairly loud in order to create plenty input into the freqout. Hope this helps.

Interesting, I believe the chord after the B is a C/B, at least this is what the master played live in various occasions, actually there is only one note - C - in C/B which is not in a the Em chord.

on the Live at Ronnie Scot's version, anyone understand how Beck gets that high squeal sound over the F#7 at 4:43? A simple pinch harmonic? really?

"I copied this off of Jeff Beck, I don't even think I've copied it correctly but this is what it means to me". Paul, that is a full statement when going after a piece created by any of the guys with a heavy style.

çan you tell me the difference you notice between your heavy relic and let’s say a mexican telecaster??? would like to hear it from someone who is good , not those youtubers who can’t play 😂, thx

It’s funny I should read this today, as I was trying various Telecasters this morning in my local shop! Now, to answer your question! For me, it’s 50% in my mind. What I mean is that my heroes often played Tele’s (Roy Buchanan, Danny Gatton, Albert Lee, Jim Campilongo, Arlen Roth, Robben Ford). All of these Telecasters were the real deal, i.e. made in the 50s & 60s and therefore have chips and dings etc. So the closest I can get to living that dream is to buy an expensive custom shop heavy relic. It thrills my brain and satisfies that need. Any “off the shelf Tele” simply would not tick that box in my mind. But the other 50% is a more objective answer. After playing a heavy relic custom shop, everything else just feels sterile, or an imitation or just plain wrong. It’s a huge come down. That sounds SO snobby. I really don’t like the sound of what I’m saying but I really feel that way. The necks on “non custom shops” are glossy, sticky, shiny, “brand new” and un-welcoming. They don’t have the wonderful rolled edges to the fret board or the worn in feel. The list goes on and on. I hope I’m not offending anyone here.

@@paulstaffordcook8799 I don’t judge anyone who are better than me 😉, specially the ones that have a great feel. It’s better to dissect the reasons on why we want some gear , it comes with experience, and most youtubers are just here to sell a product, good players but don’t take the time to give tips. Jim Campilongo and Joe Gore are making these videos where at the end of the song they pull out some critics on musicians or gear . Pretty rad .
