After all the great KZbin musicians I have watched, and there are some fantastic players, I can’t believe how I absolutely get blown away by your style, So melodic, soulful, just how I could only dream of playing. You must have worked your arse off playing for hours along with a natural God given talent.

Wow, thank you Jeff🙏. Really heartwarming to read that comment. Well yes, I have poured many hours of my life into it, purely because I enjoy it so much. I always seemed to pick up the skills without too much trouble. I guess the way some kids were just naturally good at football - for me it was guitar. Not a theory guy really, I’ve just to good musical ears I think 🤣

says " i dont really know what im doing" then goes on to play some of the tastiest licks this side of the atlantic..like some kind of scottish Cornell Dupree....ive picked up more playing tips from your channel (after accidentally stumbling over it whilst looking at les pal junior clips) than most others on the tube....your lesson on your right hand technique using pick and fingers (chicken picking and "grabbing " partial chords ) has revitalised my playing ..its a struggle and out of my comfort zone but im slowly getting it under my fingers lol....BUT...most importantly your use of tone ...i think its that that makes you stand out....your tone is superb...yeah i know youve got some nice equipment ...but so have a lot of other guys on you tube (some even really valuable vintage stuff) and a lot dont even get close to your tone and feel..so yo have gave me the "kick up the arse" i needed.... after 35+ years of playing managed my natural lazy "ahhh it will do ...no ones listening anyway" approach when playing and dialing in great tones valve amp or digital wise....most of your clips have me dashing to my music room afterwards to ride the zeitgeist of inspiration you've generated so a big thanks from me pal

Wow, what an amazing compliment! I really appreciate you taking the time to make that comment. I even showed it to my wife in attempt to convince her that she married talent 🤣. @@paulstaffordcook8799 ...lol i can relate to the bins out thing ...many a time my wife has gave me a (gentle) kick at 6 am saying "quick you forgot to put the bin out ,, i can hear the bin men"....interesting story i read somewhere re pete townsend...and domestic mundane chores ..(a big guitar hero of mine )..hed just come off a Who world tour in the 70s i believe and was in his home recording studio ...his wife disturbed him asking him for cash to pay the milkman ..he got the cash but when she had left he smashed his guitar in a childish temper at been interrupted when he was "working"...his reason was on world tours with The Who he was used to been treated like a God where any whim would be satisfied and he would be tippy toed around as long as the show went on (no wonder so many 60s 70s rock star went off the rails)and he felt annoyed this this domestic chore was presented to him when he was recording a take. ..(was it a nice j200 or a sg junior one wonders? ) then suitably embarrassed and ashamed by his stupid tantrum hid the guitar in the attic..he forgot all about it ...it was found by the new owners of his house years later...now when im in my music room and my missus shouts me (usually because she wants some help with peeling some spuds or left my work shoes somewhere lol)...i say meekly (but cursing under my breath )"yes my little petal..im on my way dear " lol and carefully put down my Les paul Junior or (even more carefully ) my Ibenez GB (George Benson) 10..or whatever im using ...then again im no Townsend.....i once had a blazing row with my wife about 25 years ago and in anger i went to kick my Rickebacker 330 over....(i wish i still had it)..she said it almost looked like a slow motion replay as i lifted my foot and in a last split 2nd stopped and just gave it a gentle tap with my foot ..but still knocking it off its stand but deftly catching it before it plummeted to the floor...she said it was actually quite amusing ...as did i when id calmed down....lol

I liked that Pete Townsend story. Yeah, it must be a weird existence to be rockstar or football star or whatever. I’d have been a nightmare 🤣. Well I’m glad your Rickenbacker survived intact! Speaking of Rickenbackers, my Dad’s a huge fan of them and has a couple. My most watched video is “My Dad’s amazing guitar collection”. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j36klKh5ptF1abM When you have a moment, it’s an interesting watch. Two beautiful Rickenbackers and whole bunch of Gretsch’s 😀

@@paulstaffordcook8799 aye ive seen that video...really nice guitars...i reckon he needs a EVH Frankenstrat to compliment the collection lol....joking aside though...the guitar i play other than my junior more than my others is a really battered well worn 80s BC Rich Gunslinger (one dimazio pickup...1 vol control...floyd rose strat) it excellent for my van halen impressions...its plays like butter ...the action it crazy low and yet doesnt buzz and resonates great..a really well built guitar ...like the unfinished neck was ergonomically moulded to the dimensions of my hand ...

Paul mate you are just proof of the pud that no amount of theory can never give you the feel you create theory is more for musicians who don't have blues in the bones to begin with IMO, i feel you have got it i can just tell by your feel in the instrument, it just sings mate your guitar playing is perfectly equal to a beautiful woman who needs very little or no make up. just sweet mate. cheers Tommy ;0)

Thank you Jcloughjnr😊. In this clip is was not pedals, just guitar into my Boss Katana 100 combo. I think I’d have been on the crunch channel, hence the fat overdriven tone.

Really interesting and helpful video. I’m just tryna get back into playing again, lost interest a couple of years ago due to being stuck in that rut of pentatonic/blues scale and basically not knowing how to advance any further. These licks and the feeling of your playing is exceptional, reminds me of bonamassa but in your own style. 👍
@paulstaffordcook87995 жыл бұрын
Thank you Lewis! I burst out laughing when you said ....”reminds me of Bonamassa....”, because I’m currently a bit obsessed with studying Bonamassa..... he’s currently my favourite player and it’s such a thrill when someone says they can hear a little of him in my playing, ha ha. Anyway, delighted you liked the clip and I wish you many happy hours practicing your way out of that rut. Cheers :-)

Enjoyed that Paul, are you using the Katana Air often? By the way, I haven't an idea what I play, I just play by ear, kinda works 🤘
@paulstaffordcook87995 жыл бұрын
Hi Robbie, sorry for late reply. I use the Katana Air when I play outside in summer. I do a bit of busking in the city streets for the tourists, so the Katana Air is just perfect for that, since it’s battery powered. I also use it in the house occasionally too. But mostly I’m on my Katana 100 combo, which is my main “go to” amp :-)
@paulreddy54522 жыл бұрын
What position do you generally keep your volume pots at? I’ve heard people say that finding your sound/tone to start with at 5 suits them, but I like mine at about 7.
@paulstaffordcook87992 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. I’d say that, most of the time, I’m at 80%. I like having that extra boost available with just the simple twist of the pot. 👍

Great playing and tone Paul (As usual ) Are you using your Katana? If you are would you share the settings please. I've got a Baja Tele and would like to try and get close to that tone Cheers
@paulstaffordcook87995 жыл бұрын
Hi a1terrier2, delighted you liked the tone of my Telecaster. Yes, it was my Katana 100 combo on the half watt setting. It’s a fairly new discovery for me (that particular tone), and so here’s how I get it; 1) CLEAN channel, 2) GAIN on max, 3) BASS knob on full, MIDDLE less than half, TREBLE at 12 o’clock, 4) BLUES DRIVE knob pointing to 10 o’clock, 5) Bit of delay and Reverb and Presence. Then the guitar itself is (1) Bridge pickup, (2) Volume at 85%, (3) Tone knob all the way off, to full bass, but turned back on just to the point of a little treble coming back in. The result is a bassy fat tone. Basically I was trying to make it sound a little like a Les Paul. One thing to note.... the Tele is equipped with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups ups which are fatter and beefier sounding than stock pick ups. Glad you like the result :-)

@paulstaffordcook87995 жыл бұрын
Actually, I had that very Telecaster up for sale a few months ago and nobody bought it..... so I thought i’d add some Seymour Duncan pickups (Quarter Pounders) to see if it improved the tone. And now I can’t put the dam thing down, it’s a transformation :-)
@hamza-sk2oy5 жыл бұрын
@@paulstaffordcook8799 Offcourse. Any duncan with alnico magnet is worth the money. I had same kind of to my tele's neck. I'm very interested in buying a good strat now 50's surf green and mod it with some texas pickups. Thumbs up to the first lick you played there really gave a boogie vibe.
