I found shorter more frequent practice sessions to be more effective. I try to do 30-50 minutes twice a day.

What often happens to me is that I tell myself that i'll practice for two hours or so but then get so caught up in it that I end up playing a lot longer, to the point where I have to tell myself tot put the guitar down as I have other things that need to get done.

It is a proven fact that the more you do something the better you get at it, i play bass guitar and it is a obsession for me, i love it and can't get away from it, if i play 8 or 10 hours a day im really not satisfied, it might be a sickness, i don't know, but like i said, i❤it, been playing like this for 10 years 👍.

serious question, then: what do you practice for that long? Ive been playing for 3 years, and unfortunatly in the last couple of months my desire to play has gotten less and less. I listen to prog metal, and i must say that im already quite qood for the amount of time ive played, but it feels like that is only the handling kinda good, doest feel like ive progressed beyond that at all. i just want to be able to play again...

I know I'm late but I'll practice 2-3 hours after work and 7-8 hours on the weekends. I have no concept of time when I play/practice, I look to see what time it is and realize 5 hours have passed and I still haven't gotten enough playing in to feel satisfied, so I continue. I dont have many friends so really I don't do much other than play.

I've been a guitar player for 36 years now. I never "practiced". I just picked it up and messed with it and one day, everything just clicked. From then on, I just listened to my favorite guitarists and learned to copy what they were doing. I never tried to learn scales or theory. I never timed my practice time. I applied this technique to bass, keyboards and drums as well. Don't try so hard and it will come to you.

David okay, thank you! But what if I try to learn 1 hr per instrument? Is that fine?
@DavidHanks90
@DavidHanks90 5 жыл бұрын
@@thecerealbacon25 The mechanics of how you play are different enough that it won't be confusing like trying to learn french and spanish at the same time would be. If you have 2 hours a day and can devote 1 hour to each then more power to you. You'll probably even pick up some things that will help from one instrument to the other. Piano and guitar both allow you to play chords where as other types of instruments like brass instruments do not. You'll start to see certain patterns emerge on each instrument and that could crossover to a degree to the other. I only play guitar though and haven't played piano since I was a kid so I'm peculating a little here lol

What’s really sad about music is that the enjoyment of it never seems to start. The amount of time investment just to play at a beginner level, let alone be able to play and sing is unbelievable. It’s never been fun for me personally due to this but it’s a great art form. It’s just practice, practice every moment of free time and the art never begins because you don’t know how to express different concepts without endless amounts of theory, etc.
