the original pickup sounds a little bright like a p90 is supposed to. The hot pickup sounds like it's trying to sound like a humbucker, no longer the P90 sound.

Being a HUGE Doom / Sludge fan... that pickup sounds mint. That nasal mid in a P90 with the high frequency rolled off a bit (which is what happens with high output pickups) sounds crazy good. Would love to hear this pick up through an HM2 / HM2 clone. Maybe if Boss send you the Waza HM2 you could use this guitar in the demo? WOULD ENJOY.

I do the same as Matze R basically, stock output P90 through a Tube Works Tube Driver in front of amp. Sounds better there than inserting after preamp. But a 60k P90 is trying to sound like something else. It sounds good though. What about a 16k P90 you could also tap at about 8k, for the bridge? But either/both positions I suppose. Just thoughts. Nice job!

As Robert McCabe comments, kohms (resistance) doesn't directly equal output, though is an indicator. The resistance may increase because of more turns in the pickup which would result in increased inductance - > output, but not necessarily in a linear fashion, but fewer turns with finer wire would also have higher resistance, and the magnets used will also have an effect. Either way, fun experiment (even if I preferred the Roswell 😁).

They make an EMG 81 that is P90 sized, as well as the option of Dimarzio Super Distortion in P90 dimensions. Either would do a better job at what that pickup does, in a nowhere near real, P90 tone type for high gain. That said, it was a really cool idea!
@mueslimuncher19507 ай бұрын
You should not confuse DC resistance with output volume. It depends on the gauge of wire used, as well as the number of turns in the coil. Other factors include the inductance and the type of magnets used.

You can always make a lower pickup sound "Hotter" by amp usage or pedals, but try to make a Hot pickup sound cleaner. Harder to do. I'll stick with lower output to mid range pickups any day. Most of the vintage Gibson P90's were not all that powerful compared to today's winds. Yet they sounded great.

Ruebezahl ! I swapped the 500k with a 250k for the volume and it made the guitar appear beefier by fact of lowering the peak point of the stock pickup. Acoustically the guitar is quite bright anyway so I do wonder if sometimes its not about just the pickup but voicing the circuit/pickup etc to the character of the guitar acoustically. Shame mine has a need for a fret level which makes the guitar a little harder to play until its done - new woods and settling in over the last 18 months!
