Those early ‘80s pickups are indeed amazing, I once had a 1980 Strat that was as heavy as 2 Les Pauls glued together, but it definitely had that same awesome tone.

I would not have imagined that you could pair a Strat with a Fender amp and get that kind of bite with “hair around the note”. And very nice rolling the volume back and getting a clean sound, too. Nice playing as well on top of all else! Part of the fun is hearing the sounds in capable hands!

That folks is a Dan Smith strat. Small headstock but with the lettering that fits the larger 70s ones, 4 bolt neck, no more bullet truss rod. These are nice. And yeah I have one.

I have 2. Light Clown burst and a heavy Black/Rosewood. I’m not a fan of the thin/skinny necks though...

w13rdguy Black dots. I use all the positions except maybe the middle by itself. The bridge and middle out of phase has a sound like the solo in We Don't Need No Education by David Gilmour. Which was what sold me on the guitar at the time. 1982 and all.

Brown/tan/taupe finishes usually aren't my thing, but Saharan Taupe (And Shoreline Gold) are beguiling.

Nice Guitar. Still sounds great. I like the odd color, but probably wouldn't choose it in a line up....lol But for a collection maybe? The light color is spelled "taupe". "Toupe" is a slight misspelling of toupée, a headcover that people who have Mark's hairstyle often wear.

Not even a tiny bit rare. It is a really nice, clean almost vintage Stratocaster. 1982 isn't all that long ago. I understand that this series is just to help Mark sell expensive used guitars. Ain't nothing wrong with that. Aside from the unusual color, it's just another nice Strat. That's not a bad thing. Regular, ordinary old Strats in great condition are great guitars. This is just such a regular old ordinary Strat in great condition.

Yep. They were trying to make ‘em “how we used to.” Didn’t quite get there in ‘82 (except for the JV series models from Japan, which kick serious ass) but it was a decent effort. I personally prefer the adjuster at the headstock, or MusicMan style if at the heel.

I think the first American “vintage reissues” came out about a year after the Japanese versions. So mid 1983 or so. I had a Fender catalog from 1984 and I remember they were featured in that, along with the Elite series guitars.
