Great video as usual...I have a missed concert story. When I was 15 I had tickets to see cheap trick. I got in trouble with the parental units and was told I couldn't go. The salt driven. I had to go with my father and stepmother to the concert to drop off my friend I was suppose to go with and the person I gave my ticket too.

Mark-I believe it was 1968 that Martin brought back the D-45. I was a senior in high school that year, and the Les Pauls that Gibson was reissuing were a much bigger deal to me at the time than a Martin would have been. Besides, the D-45 was $1200-way more money than I could lay my hands on in ‘68!

You're right. Wiki says 68. Some of the original reissue customers included Jimi Hendrix and David Crosby.

I like Gibsons, but for acoustics, screw Gibson. Go big or go home, son. Get a Martin. Might I recommend a J-40 though! Haha, you'll save quite a bit of money compared to a D-45, but with all the tone. :D

I like the shorter scale on the Gibson. And the feel of less tension on the strings. I don't like the long scale. I think Martin makes a couple short scale guitars. I could probably live with that.

91 is the 27th distinct semiprime and the second of the form. It's also the atomic number of protactinium. It's also a penny, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar; all the denominations under one dollar. And finally, and maybe most importantly, it's a Kazakhstan Q-pop boy band.

If you're shopping for a Martin check out the D18GE or My Favorite Guitars Cuatom D18 Adirondack. I spent MONTHS comparing and playing martins and ultimately ended up concluding that my favorite wood combo is Adirondack and Mahogany. The g.e. Bracing is a plus as well.

Adirondack and hog is wonderful! The best guitar I own is a D18GE. Wait! The best guitar I own is a D-28 Marquis. Or is it the GE? I switch back and forth, but usually I say it’s the GE. When I bought the Marquis I went to Elderly to buy a high end dread that cost way more than the Marquis: a Merrill C-28. I thought the Merrill had scalloped their trebles braves too much. There was little brightness. Another picker loved it and bought it. I played at least 50 guitars, maybe far more. The best guitar in that part of the store (not the vault) was the Longworth D-45. The second best was the Martin D-28 Marquis. Bear in mind I was only looking for a rosewood dreadnaught that sounded like a Martin and nothing else. There were Santa Cruz, Collings and others but they didn’t have the Martin sound. You may like them better, but I’ve been hit in the ears with the Martin sound and for me it will always be the best. I already had the GE when I bought the Marquis. When I found the GE I was gigging with a Collings D1A. As soon as I compared them I put the Collings up for sale. The Collings was nice and bright and chimey. Bell-like up the neck harmonics! But the trebles weren’t fat. The mids and basses didn’t have that Martin characteristic growl and fatness, i would like to have kept the Collings, but I wanteda Martin Rosewood in my arsenal again. I’d had lots in the past and-though I’m a mahogany player through and through, every once in a while I need a rosewood fix.

Mark, You want to hear a bad story? I had tickets to see TEMPLE OF THE M'F DOG AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN!!! I was on my way to the train when my wife called and said that her Uncle (whom we were very very close to) lost his battle with cancer. I, of course, immediately turned around to be with my wife and her family (even knowing at that very moment that i was about to miss a once in a lifetime show). I don't need to remind you of what unfortunately happened with the Chris Cornell, one of my hero's, about a month or so later. I never got to see Chris Cornell live. This was about to be my first time and it was going to be with Temple of the Dog. I think about that one often. Also, I had tickets to see Damageplan and that never happened. We all know about that story......

Can someone please care to explain to me how abalone or mother of pearl binding is done? Because they are very brittle and rigid materials. They do it by gluing small pieces one by one or there is something that can soften the material (like they used to use vinegar to make ivory soft and mold it)?

I love and respect the D45. But IMO my 914ce is much more gorgeous. Obviously looks are subjective and I’m sure there are people who prefer the looks and sound of the Martin, but I just can’t fall in love with the older style aesthetics
