I wouldn't feel too bad about not being able to compose music like Zappa. The dude was a legit musical genius as far as I am concerned.

Agree with Peter K! I was in High School first time I saw Frank Zappa live in Stockholm 1973. I had the same fascination at that time as you have now! That full concert is in KZbin thanks to Swedish TV.

You'll probably find Zappa amazing even after you can play the black page on every instrument. I'm so happy to see you getting into the FZ world. WELCOME!!!

This is a radical re-arrangement of the original medley from WEASELS RIPPED MY FLESH . On there its called OH NO , shifting into the ORANGE COUNTY guitar work out . I recommend you compare them . Any time spent analyzing Zappa's musical evolution is always worth it .

FYI, this performance included Chester Thompson (later drummer for Genesis, as pointed out below) and George Duke on Keyboards. This band also sometimes included a second drummer, Ralph Humphry, who came from a Jazz group led by Don Ellis, known for esoteric time signatures. This is actually two songs, the second being titled "Trouble Every Day"

Great work. Live performances of FZ videos are a little hard to come by on the internet, but if you are willing to go audio only, I would recommend Peaches en Regalia off of Hot Rats or Apostrophe (featuring Jack Bruce on bass) from the album of the same name. If you are interested in revisiting Inca Roads, the live version from You Can't Do That on Stage, Vol. 2 is maybe the definitive version ... if I remember correctly, he copy/pasted the solo from that live performance into what would become the studio track off of One Size Fits All.

A suggestion: Zappa started playing drums. There are not much of guitar solos in the Albums of the 1960s. But you could try "Holiday in Berlin - full blown", an instrumental piece from the album Burnt weeny sandwiches (1970). Another side of Zappa, little more demanding and jazzy.

Frank and the Mothers Roxy & Elsewhere is a fantastic album, and the full length live video might melt your skull. Definitely recommended.

ok, great Frank, but the original version of the record, as always, is better than the live ones ....and in this album (hot rats) there is one of Zappa's most beautiful and underrated songs, "Son of mr green genes " one of Zappa's most underrated pieces..
